If you’re in Memphis, TN, between April 1st and April 4th of 2009, then why not consider attending the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs’ (UCCS) annual “White Privilege Conference”?
No, it’s not a joke . . . and yes, I did notice April Fool’s Day marks the start of the conference. If you’re white and you thought such things, then, according to the academics at UCCS, it’s just more evidence of your white-privilege racism. Hence, the dire need for you to attend this indoctrination . . . er, conference.
What will you learn if you go?
Let’s let Peggy McIntosh, a presenter from last year’s conference tell you in her own words:
“It seems to me that obliviousness about white advantage is kept strongly inculturated in the United States so as to maintain the myth of meritocracy, the myth that democratic choice is equally available to all. Keeping most people unaware that freedom of confident action is there for just a small number of people props up those in power, and serves to keep power in the hands of the same groups that have most of it already.”
If you don’t go, you’ll also miss gripping presentations such as this gem from a past conference. It’s by Tim Wise and it’s titled, “Honky Wanna Cracker? A Look at the Myth of Reverse Racism.”
With titles like that, it makes you want to bring the kids, eh?
Seriously, though, this kind of claptrap is the death knell of a civilization. These academics assert that it’s racist to believe that if you work hard and follow the rules, then you will get what you deserve. In other words, it’s racist to believe that hard work pays off. Their conference is egregiously misguided and it’s decidedly un-American.
If you’ve got the stomach for it, then take a look for yourself at: UCCS White Privilege Conference
And, you might want to remember the “White Privilege Conference” before sending your children to college (or if you’re a young adult about to attend college). The garbage peddled at this conference is sure to make it into general education classes and students will be graded on their acceptance of this ideology.
When faith in the fruits of hard work is racist, then we, as a culture, are in deep trouble.

FJG (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 4:49PM EST (link)… I love my hometown. However, the corruption and the attitude of entitlement are given free reign in Memphis. So sadly, Memphis is an ideal city to host such a conference. The fact that this nonsense is being encouraged in Memphis is shameful but, unforunately, par the course.
The only way this type of activity will stop is if...
JadedByPolitics (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 7:23PM EST (link)a majority of the citizens of the state in which this disgusting crap occurs marches on the Capital of the State and demands that our tax dollars stop funding the colleges…..and believe me it could be ANY STATE any COLLEGE!
As long as we just write on blogs and get offended in our houses and do nothing it will only get more egregious!

mailloux (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 10:57PM EST (link)You’d be surprised how much money is spent on diversity efforts . . . in my own state, we fly in consultants from California, hold conferences, hire multicultural directors, etc.
In and of itself, I don’t have a problem with extra recruiting efforts in minority neighborhoods. Qualified students of any race deserve a shot at a college education. Some first generation college families need extra help in figuring out the application and financial aid process. That’s time well spent.
I do have a problem however with the underlying philosophy of the diversity movement. It’s perfectly captured in the “White Privilege Conference.” It’s an odious, racist perspective. It’s insufferable and creeps into gen ed classes. It’s basically an all our effort at indoctrination. It’s not based on science. It’s ideology driven and its adherents would make even the most dedicated fascist blush with jealousy.
Universities are insular places. It’s a lot like the old commercials for Vegas. Remember the ad line, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.” Much the same is true in higher education. Awareness that this awful ideology is being championed by universities is low, I’m afraid, in the general public. A march on a state house would be an effective statement, if there were enough people to march and they weren’t afraid of being called a racist by sympathetic media, who learned all about “White Privilege” while studying for their journalism BA.
Awareness of radicalism in education needs to be raised. Education is a focal point of liberals to change the United States. It’s the Bill Ayers strategy.

JadedByPolitics (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 11:35PM EST (link)the right side of the divide of this country is the inability to get fired up and make true change…..one example of us getting fired up and changing something Illegal Immigration…..if WE are unwilling to be heard enmasse than these things will continue to go on and become even more egregious.
WE are either going to decide to be part of the solution to degradation of our society or we are going to continue to be the “silent majority”….I personally am READY AND WILLING to be part of the solution.

The amount of time it took to get here...
DONTREADONME (Diary) Saturday, November 22nd at 12:35AM EST (link)It has been over 15 years since I began my study in college. I went to U of Delaware and SUNYIT, and I do not remember ever taking any of these types of courses that the students these days are required to take as part of an Engineering and Physics degree.
I just hired a few brand new engineers out of college to work under my lead, and I have my work cut out for me. These kids are absolutely oblivious to the real world and the fundamentals of engineering for that matter. They seem to be full fledged know-it-alls and entitled.
The other day my new engineer from Georgia Southern decided that he had to make sure I knew that 25% of women have been raped in college. I looked at him puzzled and said, “where the heck did you get that number?” He replied, “I got it in one of his required courses that taught him diveristy and womens’ issues or something like that”. I proceeded to tell him that the number is grossly overestimated. He told me I didn’t know what it is like in college these days. I said I do not remember that many complaints of rape on the campuses I was on. His answer, that is because it isn’t reported. Geez, if you don’t hear about, it isn’t seen and it isn’t reported then it must be happening. What is wrong with these kids? What are they teaching these kids in technical curriculums these days?
Just the other day, my other 23 year old engineer went on to tell me that he voted for Obama cause it was about his future not mine. He further said it is his future, I am the past. Also, I told him before the election, our line of work has been promised to be cut down by an Obama administration. Did he listen, NO! Now we are most likely on the chopping block for the FY10 budget.
I am finding out, that I will have to spend the first year undoing all of the damage done to these kids in college or high school. I have to spend time righting their perceptions of the career and professional world before I can get them to think like engineers and not like young half-cocked diversity idealists.
Seriously, they can not handle the rough and tumble world of engineering because many times we run into arguements and disagreements which can leave unsuspecting idealists distraught and unable to cope.
I have witnessed this inability to cope in two meetings now with both of them. My new engineer hires are a minority and a female with excellent GPAs at their respective colleges. The one somehow thought that there was some sort of racism going on when an experienced white engineer had to correct him. The girl actually got up and left the meeting because she was emotionally distraught.
My engineers need to remember that we have customers. They cannot spend so much time getting upset because they perceive some sort of discrimination from our customers, when obviously it had not occurred.
I blame this attitude on the colleges and schools because when I got the same treatment out of school as a young engineer, I never remember thinking, that maybe they did it because they like discriminating against red-heads. Come on kids grow up already.
Phew, sorry about burning all that here, but one of these events happened today, and this diary speaks to me.
Firing the obama employees
Freedoms Truth (Diary) Saturday, November 22nd at 12:41AM EST (link)You should tell your team a story I heard. A manager was trying to figure out how to cut 10% of his workforce, and he was trying to figure out which employees to let go. Since they cutback are due to the Obama administration, he figured the best way was to find the folks with the Obama stickers in the parking lot.

Luckily,
DONTREADONME (Diary) Saturday, November 22nd at 1:18AM EST (link)All of my underlings voted for Obama, so I can pick and choose and they can not say I fired them based on their vote.
Virginia is one of those “at will” employment states, for now…
One more thing, I could mess with them and pit them against each other in a battle royal.
Nah, I will do the Conservative thing and cut the two out of the three that are underperforming and keep the one that is keeping my customers satisfied and giving me the most for the money. Wait a minute that is not a conservative thing but rather it is just good business practice.
Actually,
