Term limits wasn't even the real reason for the post. It was about McCain being an aggravating "Maverick" for lack of a more vulgar suitable word.

I don't even know if I have an opinion on term limits. I've thought about it and everytime I think I am for them, I change my mind.

You write a blog on term limits and make sure you include the details that explain exactly how you're going get term limits to be the law of the land.

Until you do that, this is just mental masturbation so zip up and get to work. Or stf up.

your comment smacks of defeatism and an unwillingness to work. Your approach would appear to be, "well, they're just gonna be idiots anyway, so what's the point... let's just take away the freedom to vote for whoever they want to."

Of course we know that's not going to happen in public schools, so......

Perhaps the republican party should step up education DURING election campaigns. Generally speaking the 2008 elections were nothing more than a series of opponent bashing ads or so it seemed at times to me. It became very unappealing after awhile, so I tuned it out.

Elections need to be treated like free market capitalism. When was the last time you saw an ad telling you only the reasons why you should not buy the competitor's product. Republicans need to put more emphasis on why the republican brand is the right purchase.

Standing up for flag waving isn't enough, there are patriotic democrats too. Show people with facts [ forgive me if I get some wrong, I'm a builder not a statatician ]. Show them for example the federal income tax in 1913 was 3 % and what taxes are today when all of them are added together.

How do you accomplish this? I wish I knew, but I do know the democrats educated the people that voted for Obama in our public schools. I was married to a teacher, she, they voted democrat like it was their duty. Then the liberal corriculum is taught and they graduate uneducated, which fits into the democrats plans nicely. Perhaps everyone has seen the story of the school system where the minimum score on tests will be 50 %. Socialism is here now, and the democrats have no intention to educate the people about free market capitalism.

Thanks for giving me a place to put my thoughts. I'll go now and continue doing what I can to educate my friends and family.

For the record, TL opponents are quite aware of the existance of safe districts. They just ahppen to beleive that even idiotic voters have the right to vote for the candidate of their choice. And there are Constituional methods of limiting government, rather than denying the electorate open elections.

It's that simple. Term limits wouldn't make representatives any more conservative than they already are. They'd just rotate one liberal after another if that's what they really want.

You want change? Educate the voters why they should vote out the liberal and put in a conservative. But hey, that would mean you'd actually have to get out there and do something.

Bob Schaffer was the CO-4 U.S. House Rep. and ran on term limits. He could've kept this seat for life, but instead committed leave after his self-imposed limit. That got us Marilyn Musgrave who nobody liked, so now we have Betsy Markey (D).

If we're going to abandon principles for the sake of "winning," we don't win.

The argument can be made from both sides, and I can certainly see your point (fortunately, I'm intelligent enough to see the rationale -in spite- of the smug and arrogant way you present yourself)... but I also think that term limits create something that is far worse than a lame duck presidency -- and that is a legislature which is unaccountable to its voters. As NT says, a type of political "senioritis." You disagree, I'm certain, as is your right -- but don't go to questioning my values as a "bona fide" conservative because you happen to disagree with methods.

Gerrymandering was something else the founding fathers didn't really envision.
Our founding fathers couldn't begin to envision the corruption of the process they set up to protect our freedoms. I am a member of the Bona Fide and I support term limits.

Conservatives who oppose Term Limits are effectively 'useful idiots' in the fight for smaller government.

But if you guys want to "stand on principles", and allow people like Kennedy, Byrd, Pelosi and Rangel run roughshod over small government actors, be my guest.

But don't expect the rest of us to pay virtue to that kind of shallow thinking.

*That's* why Term Limits are important: it doesn't eliminate idiots from getting elected - it prevents those idiots from amassing disproportionately vast amounts of power (think - seniority: e.g. Kennedy, Byrd), especially relative to *our guys* who Republican voters do a much better job of keeping honest.

What needs to happen is that voters need to be educated...

Yeah, I have visions of sugarplum Christmases, but that'll never happen either.

If you want to throw a big wrench into the apparatus of government expansion, Term Limits is one of the best tools available.

Opponents of Term Limits conveniently ignore the existence of vast numbers of 'rotten boroughs' (think Charlie Rangel's seat) where the voters will never vote out "their guy", even if he's convicted of crimes up to and including murder.

If any conservative is truly supportive of "smaller government", Term Limits is Exhibit A in how to make it happen.

Which is why I say you can always tell the real bona fide small-government conservatives by whether they support Term Limits or not.

most voters are very lazy. Normally, I wouldn't be for term limits, except that most people, despite all the information available to them, are remarkably uninformed. Otherwise, they wouldn't keep voting people like Pelosi, Rangel and the rest back into office. Imagine the presidency now without term limits, you could still be stuck with Clinton or we could be stuck with O. George Washington got it right, two terms and out. FDR makes an excellent case for term limits. Can Pelosi, Reid and the rest be any less accountable than they are now? No, because they raise huge sums of special interest money and because their seats are safe, they amass more power the longer they stay to the ruin us all. The founding fathers never envisioned service in the legislative branch to be a permanent career.

most voters are very lazy. Normally, I wouldn’t be for term limits, except that most people, despite all the information available to them, are remarkably uninformed. Otherwise, they wouldn’t keep voting people like Pelosi, Rangel and the rest back into office.
this is the LAST thing I'm worried about.

Still, I have to agree with NT and Pippin. Term limits won't solve the problem. If voters are too dumb to vote morons (Pelosi, Reid, etc.) out in the first place, they'll just keep voting morons in, even WITH term limits.

What needs to happen is that voters need to be educated, and then activated. Instead, we have a whole lot of activists, most of whom work from ignorance.

I have always said we should have term limits BUT you make perfect sense in that if the people want something different they should vote for it!

Imagine if the people in charge of our country all had a legislative sense of senioritis! The only thing that keeps them remotely honest is that they are somewhat accountable to the voters.
