Excuse Me, what about Parental Responsibility.

When Sara Palin was thrust upon the stage last week, my first reaction was she wasn’t who I wanted, but she wasn’t who I didn’t want.

Then we began to her about her, how she was a beauty queen who would get up early in the morning to go hunting. Tough as nails against the establishment but was a loving mother of 5 children. She began to remind me of my own step mother (Mother as far as I am concerned) who I dearly love. This was precisely the kind of example I wanted for my own 13 year old daughter.

My mother was born on a ranch in Wyoming and learned to hunt and skin deer from an early age. She could pierce your ears with a bullet but at the same time was always a lady. She also was consider good looking in her early years and I am a better person because of her. She did her best teach us right from wrong. She also had a professional Career while my father was a truck driver.

However, yesterday the news broke about Sara Palin’s daughter. My first reaction was to wait and see how this plays out. I didn’t want to jump to any conclusions and wanted to have time for it to sink in.

Well, I started doing some math. Okay, you have a 17 year old girl who is 5 months pregnant. For what I understand she has had a somewhat long relationship with a boy a year older. This means you have a young girl who has been in a sexual relationship since she was 16 years old and for what I can tell, is still continuing since she plans on Marrying the father of her baby. Okay, at this point in time, that is the right thing to do (Marry the Father).

My question is, while this 16 year old was having a sexual relationship, where were the parents. What ever happened to Parental responsibility? Simply dismissing this by saying that her daughter will simply have to grow up earlier than expect is not the kind of example I want sitting in the VP Slot. I don’t want to have to tell my daughter that it was okay for the VPs daughter to do it, but its not okay for you. As the second highest position in the land, the VP should be above reproach, not making excuses for it.

Being Socially conservative means more than being pro-life. It means raising my children with a sense of responsibility. It means, watching my children like a Hawk, making sure she is not in a position where she can have such a relationship. Should my daughter get Pregnant before she arrives at adulthood, she will have to live with the consequences, but so would I. All my hopes and dreams for my Daughter will either be gone or put on serious hold.

You see, we are already planning for my daughter to get good grads in High School. We hold her up to a high level of expectations. If she gets less than an ‘A’, we get very upset at her. We know she is capable of getting good grades and we expect nothing less than her very best. We expect her to go on to a good College, get a degree and have a successful career. We expect some day for her to meet the man of her dreams and get Married and have Children. We believe she can have it all if she works hard and stays out of trouble.

My wife and I both have professional Careers, but we also put a great deal of effort into our daughter. We know were she is and what she is doing. When she gets home from school she calls us. If she goes out with friends we know where she is and what she is doing, and when we expect her home. We also keep her very busy so she doesn’t have a chance to get into trouble, and so far our efforts have paid off, but we are always vigilant. She isn’t allowed to date until she is 16 and even then we are going to be careful and know where she is and what she is doing. As much as possible, we are planning on keeping her in a position where she has little chance from straying off course. We expect her to wait until she is at least 18 and out of our house before she starts any sexual relationship (we hope she will wait until she is married). And my wife and I are making ever effort to follow through.

This brings me back to Sarah Palin. If she can not even keep track of her own daughter, what makes her ready for the second highest position in the land. Before she attempts to get the nations house in order, she needs to get her own house in order. It would be one thing if this was an adult child, but this is now a 17 year old child who she has allowed to get into a position she should not be in.

It is time for McCain to show more wisdom than he did when he selected Sarah Parlin and dump her. This is not the example we want in the VP slot. It is time we hold parents responsibly for the the Actions of their children. It is time as a party that we recognize Parental Responsibility.

Does The Convention Speaking order give a hint at who will be the VP

If we look at the current Convention speaking order, we can come to some conclusions.

Monday 9/1:
Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn.
Vice President Dick Cheney

Monday primetime (10-11pm Eastern Time)
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, R-Calif.
President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush

Tuesday 9/2:
Fmr. Gov. Tom Ridge, R-Pa.
Former CA Secretary of State Rosario Marin
Fmr. Sen. Fred Thompson, R-Tenn.
Gov. Linda Lingle, R-Hawaii
Fmr. Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, R-Md.

Tuesday primetime (10-11pm Eastern Time)
Gov. Sarah Palin, R-Alaska
Fmr. Gov. Mike Huckabee, R-Ark.
Fmr. Mayor Rudy Giuliani, R-New York City KEYNOTER

Wednesday 9/3:
Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn.
Meg Whitman, Ebay CEO
Carly Fiorina, former HP CEO
Fmr. Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass.

Wednesday primetime (10-11pm Eastern Time)
Cindy McCain
Vice Presidential nominee
Gov. Bobby Jindal, R-La., will speak after the VP nominee

Thursday 9/4:
Gov. Tim Pawlenty, R-Minn.
Gov. Charlie Crist, R-Fla.
Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kansas
Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Fla

Thursday primetime (10-11pm Eastern Time)
Sen. John McCain (video before his speech)

Monday has 4 speakers, mostly from the Bush Presidency. So, McCain want to get that over with (Make sense).

Tuesday has Huckabee in Primetime slot. Ealier it will have Fred Thompson, Tom Ridge, Rudy, and Sarah Palin all potential running mates. So, McCain gets these guys out of the way.

Wednesday, has Romney in an earlier session, followed by Cindy McCain and the VP Pick. Followed by Bobby Jindal.

Thursday has Pawlenty, Crist, Brownback and Martinez, all solid McCain supporters.

Reading the Tea leaves, it would be easy to move Romney down two slots to the VP spot and move Jindal to Romney’s spot, or move Jindal up to the VP spot.

Its thin, but if I had to guess based on the speaking order, its down to Jindal and Romney.

Obama plays Checkers and McCain plays Chess

In an Election Marathon, Obama is a Sprinter, and McCain is the long distance guy.

Let’s start with by saying that I am no big fan of McCain, and even less of a fan of liberals and Obama. And I have been very frustrated about the shifting winds on McCain running Mates and I am waiting for Godot. I am a very staunch conservative and have been very frustrated about the republican party and it’s lack of conservatism.

Also putting into the pot, the overall support by the MSM for Obama and Obama’s large money advantage. Put into the pot that we have a 2 Term president and the country appears ready for a change. Throw in the fact that the base is frustrated with the party leaders for not holding to conservative principles.

And yet McCain and Obama are in a virtual tie. The question is why?

It’s because Obama and the Democrats are playing checkers and McCain is playing chess. Every time Obama makes a big move, the McCain camp makes a subtle change that changes the debate. This is in part because Obama limited experience includes how to run an election against a knowledgeable politician. If Obama and McCain’s were runners, Obama would be a sprinter and McCain would be a marathon runner. As things stand now, it looks like Obama will run out of wind before he crosses the finish line.

Evangelical voters may cause the defeat of McCain

Evangelical Leaders have started a religious Political War with Mormons. With all the attacks on Romney because of his Religion, one wonders how many Mormons will support McCain if he bows to this presure. And at this point, any other VP Choice other than Romney will be seen as bowing to the Evangelical Presure.

Prominent evangelical leaders are warning Sen. John McCain against picking former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney as his running mate, saying their troops will abandon the Republican ticket on Election Day if that happens.

They say Mr. Romney lacks trust on ….. and because he is a Mormon. Opposition is particularly powerful among those who supported former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in the Republican presidential primaries earlier this year

http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=NTNjOGRlZTZkYThiYmM3OTQyZDQyY2FiM2M5NzY4NWU=

Unlike Evenagelical, Mormon leaders are prohibited from getting involved in politics as a representive of the church, so its hard to tell how many Mormon’s will feel slighted and therefore will not Support McCain if he doesn’t select Romney as his running Mate. However, if I had to guess, I would say as much as 50% if not more Mormans may not vote for McCain if Romney is not the VP pick.

In particular, Pawlenty is seen as the Evenagelical Selection, and it questionable if Mormon’s will be willing to vote for McCain if Pawlenty is selected considering his poor history on Conservative positions.

Pawlenty is a born-again Christian and could be the one guy who helps (in part) to motivate Evangelicals to the ballot box

A number of prominent evangelical leaders are warning that if presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain selects Mitt Romney as his running mate, their followers will abandon the GOP in November.

They are wary of the former Massachusetts governor is part because he is a Mormon ….

We aren t against Mormonism, but Romney is not a thorough going evangelical and his flip-flopping on issues is understandable in a liberal state like Massachusetts, but our people won t understand that, said evangelical novelist Tim LaHaye.

Choosing Romney will alienate the entire evangelical community …. Rev. Rob McCoy, pastor of Calvary Chapel in Thousand Oaks, Calif., … I will vote for McCain unless he does one thing, he added. If he puts Romney on the ticket as veep.

Evangelical voters favored Mike Huckabee, an ordained Baptist minister, in the GOP nomination contest earlier this year, and many of his supporters do not regard Mormonism as a Christian denomination.

In fact, a poll by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press last year found that 45 percent of white evangelicals do not believe Mormons are Christians, and 39 percent said they have an unfavorable view of Mormons.

One evangelical leader confided to The Times that selecting Romney as a running mate would likely cost McCain up to 10 percent of the evangelical vote enough to spell defeat for McCain in a close race against Democrat Barack Obama.

The evangelical leaders should ask themselves, are they willing to risk the support of Mormon’s and put Obama in office. While there are certainly more Evangelical than Mormon’s, there are more Mormon’s in key battleground states than there are Evangelical’s.

McCain’s read my lips moment.

So much for the straight talk express! McCain who is suppose to speak truthfully, has now been caught in a big lie!

Republican presidential candidate John McCain drew a sharp rebuke Monday from conservatives after he signaled an openness to a higher payroll tax for Social Security, contrary to previous vows not to raise taxes of any kind.

Speaking with reporters on his campaign bus on July 9, he cited a need to shore up Social Security, saying: “I cannot tell you what I would do, except to put everything on the table.”

He went a step farther Sunday with his response on a nationally televised talk show to a question about payroll tax increases.

“There is nothing that’s off the table. I have my positions, and I’ll articulate them. But northing’s off the table,” McCain said. “I don’t want tax increases. But that doesn’t mean that anything is off the table.”

That comment drew a strong response Monday from the Club for Growth, a Washington anti-tax group. McCain’s comments, the group said in a letter to the Arizona senator, are “shocking because you have been adamant in your opposition to raising taxes under any circumstances.”

Indeed, McCain frequently has promised not to raise taxes.

http://newsmax.com/insidecover/mccain_taxes/2008/07/28/117095.html

So, tell me as a conservative why McCain is better than Obama when it comes to the economy. Both are willing to raise taxes. My support for McCain is weak at best and now he his acting like Bush Senior when he said “read my lips, no new taxes”.

If a president is going to send the economy down the toilet, which raising taxes during a slow down will do that, I would prefer it be a democrat. While I continue to wait for the VP pick to finalize my support for McCain, backing off of his word on Taxes doesn’t help.

Indeed, McCain frequently has promised not to raise taxes.

At a July 7 town-hall meeting in Denver, he said voters faced a stark choice between him and Democrat Barack Obama.

“Sen. Obama will raise your taxes,” McCain said. “I won’t.”

In a March 16 interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, McCain said he would cut taxes where possible, and not raise them.

“Do you mean none?” Hannity asked.

“None,” McCain replied.

If McCain wants true conservative support, he needs to act conservative. The last Republican to act like this was Bush Senior and that got us the Clinton’s.

1988, George H.W. Bush said, “Read my lips, no new taxes.” But facing severe budget problems, he reneged on the promise. Some conservative groups never forgave him.

I am one of those republicans who never forgot that Bush senior went back on his word. Now, McCain who has already gotten the nomination, is doing the same thing.

McCain needs to change course before he loses this election. Without conservatives, I don’t see any way he wins this election.
