On why I actually like Conservatives as a Border and Budget Libertarian.

I usually do not mind being around Conservatives. We have many common values, we usually dress similarly, and we generally have good manners. With Conservatives I usually can expect certain things. Before I go on I need to say I am referring to the Conservatives in Brit Hume’s documentary “Right, all along” on Fox News and I am not adding my note on that, which isn’t bad. : ) I also need to add that I feel there are others who like the Conservative, and also Libertarian, Look. They are not Conservatives’ friends, allies perhaps. We all face the need for ‘political’ decisions. Enough said on that.

As I mentioned I usually expect certain things while in Conservative company. I know on some things there will be, sometimes very strong, disagreements. I know that sometimes I may not like what they may be empowered to do, as it can be for them when others are in that position. I know that, for the most part, we share many principles among them decency, due respect, and a minimum of civility. In other words I have a good idea what I am really dealing with or working with. One doesn’t always get that. I should also mention I am aware of the usual bag of tricks that most of us hopefully have.

In the current arena I found I have to pick my battles. My top two priorities right now are the Earmarks Ban, focusing on Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and her follow-up on signing on to the Ban as well as repealing Government Funding of NPR. In terms of another ongoing issue, supporting the struggle against the practice of abortion I follow a long standing practice which includes prayer, limited financial assistance, taking turns at Forty Days for Life at the local abortion clinic and, incidentally, other times of the year. I sometimes make prayers for the condemned though, frankly, not a lot. In general I am opposed to the death penalty with one inconsistency which is high treason and, if a penalty, for breaking an oath to a group.

I now have an additional one now, which is defeating Representative Joe Strauss, unless there is a very public repudiation of his current status in the Right to Life issue, which I doubt.

I am tentatively advocating for Representative Ken Paxton because so far I like what I see. I used several criteria for this decision. One of those is Mr. Strauss’s popularity with NARAL. I cannot support that. Nor I can I support a representative that aids such an individual to the Speakership of the Texas State Legislature. The outcome is beyond my personal control. My political activities are not.

On another popular issue, the Gay Agenda* I have a definite position but that is a side issue to me. I am very steadfast in it and have been for years. I doubt’ I will change. Discussing the issue with the exception of an ‘as simple as possible explanation’ of one’s position after the original dissertation is a futile pursuit at this time. Other things are simply more important.

On border issues I have no disagreement with handling the Border Issue as sternly as need be until this situation has reached a steady and effective management status. I keep apprised of this because of my geographical proximity to the Problem. This has always been a major issue I have had with the LP. I advocate generally for the decency of treatment for illegal aliens while in detention, I do not feel that the problems that exist in some homelands are going to be cured by the citizens running away. Some shelter, proper ideological instruction, and weaponry training and a ‘free-to-them’ ride back home sure, but in this economy folks need to come up with their own stuff for the most part. I also understand the need to make some cash. Both as a Texan and an American I insist on a ‘carta verde’ (green card) for any long time employment. I also feel, other than emergency medical treatment, that services that are difficult for citizens to get should not be available to illegal non-citizens. I believe this is the source of much, much budget woe.

My primary concern is the National Budget overall right now and I feel that is an incredibly issue. I do not buy into the arguments relating to proportion of budget. Things add up.

I have confidence at this point in my Congressman. He is a person who I feel is solid in that regard to the issues I previously mentioned. I never had any significant disagreement with any of his positions though I am sure there is some variance somewhere. It is not important enough to even think about at this point.

The next looming concern to me is Infrastructure, which I feel this area of concern transcends ideological squabbles. This, to me, is a matter of high importance. In many places there are woeful problems and abuse. Once budget concerns are addressed then I feel the issues of infrastructure need to be the next thing on the agenda. There are many other areas of agreement as well as disagreement on many other issues. One last shared value I would like to mention before I close is the concept of Good Citizenship. While interpretations may vary it is yet another value and shared area of interest we have.

These previously mentioned items, I believe, are some of the common values and areas of interest that I have with many who identify as Conservative. Right now I am a Border and Budget Libertarian as well as a long term Right to Lifer.

The flipside of this one.

This is a revised version of another diary on a still popular topic, at least on Fox News

My wish list for the 2012 Presidential

These last days of 2010 are a busy time both up in Washington, D.C. as well as for folks cleaning up messes on the local level like here in TX 27. In stressful times the mind seeks relief and one pleasant temptation is to turn one’s thoughts to 2012. There is nothing wrong with planning ahead and sensible recreation actually contributes to good job performance. So keeping that in mind and not trying to put the cart before the horse, I would like to share my ‘dream tickets’ for 2012.

My dream ‘Dream Ticket’ would be a one term working honorarium type Presidency for Dr. Ron Paul in tribute to his service to our country and in deference to his years at it. For Vice President on this ticket my choice is Governor Gary Johnson.

Dr. Paul enjoys wide popularity outside of the Party and the Movement, sometimes in surprising places. One that really surprised me was in the African American community. He is also appealing to the usual Libertarian fringe element.

Governor Johnson will probably attract growing attention and did really well that time I saw him on Sean Hannity. Also the above ticket can have any of these following folks in the second position and still be just as effective. My second choice on this one in the VP slot would be Secretary Condolezza Rice or Governor Sarah Palin.

My second, but not by far, selection is: Speaker Newt Gingrich / Governor Sarah Palin. To me, this is the A1 choice as far historical continuity and enthusiasm are concerned. Speaker Gingrich provides a vast body of Congressional and Governmental experience and knowledge. Frankly he has the necessary gravitas and dignity for the office compared to the probable opponent. Governor Palin is certainly worthy of the office. I feel that since she still has younger members in her family, a VP slot might be less strenuous at this time. There would still be opportunities to support the movement, maintain standing, as well as have other relevant experiences to holding a Federal office. It would take less time away from a young family while still offering opportunities in the area of public life. She and her husband, Mr. Palin, have been models of living the Right to Life ideal and also a good example of family. Governor Palin has shown signs of having an exceptional level of vitality. I might be able to bring home some rabbits or a javelina, but a moose? We don’t have moose in Texas. I’d be lost. Governor Palin is exuberant, as well as insightful with a good deal of potential for the future. This is a powerful team.

Just as a quick side bar, if demographic concerns arise a good running mate for either spot, for all of the male candidates would be Secretary Condoleezza Rice. People often get excited about the achievements of others from their home communities. I know I do. Expressions of congratulations are understandable and should not be considered a reflection of integrity.

It’s always good to have back up. Here is my choice for Plan B: ‘Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann / Congressman Jeb Hensarling’ –This is a potent match as far as hardcore Conservative candidates go. Only some closet Progressive or a total reactionary would have a problem with them on this side. I would be seriously afraid of these two if I had that ‘progressive’ chromosome some folks wrote articles about here. I could see these candidates doing some damaging smack downs. One good thing about this ticket is that you could have either candidate in each slot and it would be just as effective. Both of these folks walk and talk. Just saying.

If you want to get as serious as a heart attack with the rest of America then you might try my own governor, Texas Governor Rick Perry and add Congresswoman Michelle Bachman. I don’t even feel the need to go in to that one. It speaks for itself. I personally think Governor Rick does best here in Texas. Texas could get rough in the days ahead but hey if the Country needs him I don’t think I have any problems with that. I doubt anyone can seriously convince me that Congresswoman Bachmann would not be well qualified for the Vice President spot. It would just be a waste of time. Speaking of which, you just got yours back.

Some strategy suggestions on the 2012 (think of it like barn dancing).

Elder Statesman/ Iron Lady

Dr Ron Paul / Secretary Condolezza Rice

Speaker Newt Gingrich /Governor Sarah Palin (technically a momma grizzly), Secretary Rice or Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann.

Stateswoman / Gunslinger

Secretary Rice/ Governor Rick Perry or Congressman Jeb Hensarling

Gunslinger combos

Congresswoman Bachmann / Congressman Hensarling

Governor Perry / with any of the ladies.

Governor Sarah Palin / Congressman Hensarling

Demographic Plays

One for the Ladies. – Any of the any of the gents except Dr. Paul and Speaker Gingrich who are sages. Sages always take the higher seat.

The Black Folks – Dr. Paul and Secretary Rice

Secretary Rice / with any of the gentlemen excepting Dr. Paul.

Southern racial reconciliation play – Governor Jeb Bush / Secretary Rice –with executive experience and policy expertise.

The Big Tent play; Gay Folks, Black Folks and pot smokers – (most of whom will vote for most of the rest of the stuff Conservatives want.) – Dr. Ron Paul and Governor Gary Johnson and possibly Secretary Rice or Governor Palin.

Remember Folks balance the Ticket.

Thoughts and suggestions for dealing with the Queer Homo agenda; Setting some folks straight.

Not for whimps or pantywaists.

A humorous introduction that leads into some very serious points.

I seem somewhat provincial to many people and, while I try, I don’t always keep up with current events the way I should. For a long time I was unaware there was a Gay Agenda.  I would actually ridicule the term when I heard or saw it being used. I was unaware that me, being a homosexual, required a specialized agenda. I knew at some point I was supposed to get a toasteroven but other than that, it was news to me. I was intrigued.

Someone once asked me ‘What do you mean by gay rights?’

After fumbling around in my book bag for a moment and then presenting my pocket Constitution I replied, ‘The ones in this.’

Later I discovered I believed in all sorts of things, which was a surprise to me. I learned that I wanted to destroy civilization as we knew it and remake it in my Gay Image, that I wanted to teach anal intercourse and lesbianism to school children, and the absolute worst, that I wanted to make everybody practice socialism. I knew I had flaws but this was pretty bad. I needed to take action.

First I renounced my evil ways and all ties to these despicable activities. My only exceptions were drink special nights at the bar. Like most Americans I was only willing to make so many sacrifices. Next, as penance, I decided I would try to formulate my own helpful suggestions concerning the fair treatment of citizens who ‘Like doing their own kind’ as we say here in Texas. Actually we have lots of colorful words and phrases for gay stuff, but more on my national dialect at another time. What I managed to come up with is something no one will agree on and will provoke disagreeable reactions to many who read it. It runs as follows:

Hate crimes

My position – a crime against any person should be investigated and prosecuted without consideration of the demographic group or groups to which either the victim or the perpetrator belongs. The same should apply to sentencing.

More commentary - The two most important questions should be these; Was it intentional or not? ‘What did you do?’ The question ‘why did you do it’, to me, is irrelevant.

Marriage

My position: I believe marriage is a religious rite not a civil right. I believe government should not generally be involved with regulating or performing weddings. The exceptions would be regulations for those deemed by law incapable of informed consent by applicable law and also registering when a marriage starts and when it ends. Judges and Justice of the Peace (Because it’s a legal contract) and Sea Captains (by ancient tradition) should be the only government officials allowed to perform weddings.

More commentary – In my view marriage is a form of legal contract limited to only two people. It is considered a binding agreement to those who practice it whether as part of a religion or as a civil arrangement. If practiced as a civil contract it is subject to government regulation. All citizens are equal before the law. Therefore I support legal same-sex civil marriages identical to traditional civil marriage. This must and can only occur simultaneously with a rock solid exemption for religious institutions that profess a conflict, for any reason, with such a marriage, with no exceptions.

Military

My position – Sexual orientation should not be a consideration in determining fitness to serve in the military or in the accommodations necessary to serve.

More commentary – Some folks just need to grow up about showers and who’s bunking with you. You’ve been around us your whole life, even if you haven’t snapped to it yet.

I always found the restriction on homosexuals in the military to be highly illogical. How much sense does this make. “Let’s send out our best young breeders into battle first then, after they been maimed and killed, we’ll get desperate and send you!” Think about it. Plus we have much better ideas for uniform design than you do. Get real! The American ideal for ‘cannon fodder’ has always been baffling to me.

Adoption

My position - Criteria for adoptions should be determined by the agency handling the adoption. Some mandated follow-up is probably desirable.

More commentary – I would like to point out, to my knowledge, private adoption has few restrictions.

Reproduction

Vague, yet controversial, rambling – Reproduction is a very personal matter and I am hesitant to make pronouncements in this area. I do have a very strong conviction that every person does have the right to the full knowledge of their biological parentage and of close genetically related people if such person chooses. I personally am against the use of anonymously donated genetic material for many reasons. Reproduction rights is an area best left to the individuals involved regardless of the potential tragedy that may or may not ensue.

Education

My position- The observable fact that some people have sexual attraction to their own or both genders should be recognized without performing moral or sociological analysis or evaluation. The policy should be to tell students that there are and have been persons like this throughout human history and for more information consult a parent or legal guardian. A reminder that the same set of school guidelines and local criminal laws apply to everyone, equally would be advisable.

More commentary – If we had more home schooling, private schools, and the correct incentives to make this the voluntary norm, you could teach kids whatever you want. As far as it goes if there is a positive historical figure who had same-sex orientation, like the guy that lead the charge on the 9/11 plane over Pennsylvania or Nicola Tesla, then go ahead and mention it, otherwise just drop it. As far as the fact some people are primarily attracted their own gender being taught to students so what? It is an observable phenomenon not a political ideology. Recognizing this fact is probably not going send anyone careening into a state of uncontrollable, raging, homosexual lust. This is real life not some propaganda flick from the ‘30’s like ‘Reefer Madness’. Once again, get real.

The rest of the Gay Agenda is kind of fuzzy to me. If someone has figured it out please let me know.

What ‘Libertarian’ really means. [Closed]

[I'm closing this thread because the original poster was a troll, and we're taking the bait. But he's banned, so it's time we moved on. - NS]

I thought I knew that before I joined this site. I am now finding it means or is used for a great many things, some of which I find unusual uses of the word.

I do know what it means to me. That is basically: The U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and believing in most of the platform of the LP, of which I am no longer a member, as of 2010. I became a Libertarian officially in 1978 when I first registered to vote and checked the box marked ‘Libertarian.’ or maybe it was a write in I don’t really remember. I do remember who I voted for President for the first time, Ed Clark. It wasn’t until the 90’s that I heard of or read Ayn Rand, which is a whole other tale in itself. I did see the ‘Fountainhead’ at a film festival or a movie house but I guess I didn’t read the credits.

Since I’ve been here I found ‘Libertarian’ means all sorts of things. The most common is that I indulge in something called ‘Ron Paul worship’. I certainly know who he is at this point. I like him and voted for him for President when he was in the LP. Then he left. I have met Dr. Paul three times in my life. Once at a meet and greet at a convention. The second time in Washington, DC where I spoke with him for about 10-12 minutes. This surprised me and caused some jealousy and unfortunate remarks by other people there. He was the one that walked up to me, I was just having some coffee and a pastry. The last time I saw him was a few short weeks later in Texas at a political event. He acted like he recognized me, though I thought this was probably my ego. Shortly before he left he walked up behind me put his hand on my shoulder and said ‘I’m surprised to see you here.’ ‘Family,’ I replied gesturing to a small clump of them. He could tell by my look he could say something he might not otherwise say, “you have my sympathy, ‘ I nodded and was about to say something when an aide whisked him away. One of my cousins came up and said a few moments later, ‘I heard what he said to you. You took it pretty well. I would have punched the son of a bitch in the mouth.’ I commented we should get to the buffet, since it looked like the shrimp was getting low. That pretty much sums up my incidents of ‘Ron Paul worship’.

The next thing I have found out is that I support abortion. That one really surprised me. As someone who has actually spent time on his knees, on a hot Texas sidewalk, saying the Rosary in front of an abortion clinic, I found that one a bit much. Just the way folks here just casually throw that one out as if it were some self-evident fact, like the sky being blue, is just so frickin’ stupid it does not deserve further comment.

My favorite is that Libertarians are the enemies of Liberty. It sounds like some folks around here are really devotees of Saul Alinsky but like the Conservative Look. We all know what they say about the Flag, the Bible, and scoundrels. I actually have several members in my immediate and extended family in the Progressive category. They come in two flavors, Democrat and Republican. Oddly enough these are the first ones to jump at political office or some other prestige position. I usually have to be ‘bribed or blackmailed’ into attending ‘social functions’, or ‘sitting on the such and such committee’ or someone from such and such wants to talk to you or whatever.

Sometimes, like with the Earmark Ban, I am told that I need to be ‘Politically Active’ that day. I was actually ahead of the curve on that one. Sometimes I get told I am supporting someone, like with the last congressional election, where I was told to take down the Libertarian crap outside my house and someone would be by later to put stuff up for Blake.

I will have to say this for some of my more unpleasant relatives. They are a lot more clever and lot more high-end than most of  the Progressive faux ‘Conservative’ crap I’ve read here in comments. Not to say all I read here falls in that category. Most of it doesn’t.

They are actually the same basic group, now finding a home here in this movement. Like their Progressive brethren of the Left, they change their name a lot. It’s fun learning the new ones. It’s still the same basic bunch though. Now before any real Conservatives get mad I am not talking about you, I have no serious beef with real Conservatives. I am speaking about infiltrators and these folks have been in RNC before I was even born. Now they are here. They went into to both parties. Their biggest harvest so far has been the Democrats, of course, however there are quite a few here. Currently I call them Progressives, before that it was ‘Bolsheviks’, and, of course, the original, ‘Marxist.’ What they are really are, is a sub-species of narcissists who keep pets. These pets are either hostages or reactionaries. Reactionaries are people who are allergic to change. Narcissists are good at collecting people. It’s one of their needs. This is a scary time for them and sometimes when people are scared they get dangerous. I do have to apologize though. This piece wasn’t really about Libertarianism at all.

Senator Kay may need to come home.

Nov.16th, 2010

Corpus Christi, TX

Now I like Senator Kay and the two times I met her she was very nice to me. I was surprised that she spoke to me so long the second time we were in the same room. I don’t now and never have agreed with her on every single thing. I like her though. What impressed me about this Lady, is that instead of reciting and spouting, she discussed and seemed to have a good grasp on what she spoke to. Lately though I have had some concerns that have caused me to wonder if, maybe, it was time for Senator Kay to come home.

My first concern is not earmarks. I have always despised earmarks from the first time I was aware of them as a teenager. Sometimes I even despised the ones in my own district.

I just figured after all this time it was hopeless. Like some life long addiction among Members of Congress and Senators and then in the final stages of the illness they turned to lobbying to support their habit. No real hope.

My first concern about Senator Kay’s possible need for a rest was the result of her response regarding my position on the shameful, intolerant treatment of Juan Williams. This blatant example of bigotry and bad taste came at the hands of NPR and it’s true ruler Ellen Weiss, as well as that incompetent figurehead Vivian Schiller. This type of behavior, I would like to point out, is something usually associated with, according to Progressive NPR, Conservatives and, sometimes, Libertarians. Her response was, understandably form but on topic, that she, of course, understood how I felt. However, she still steadfastly supported the need for Federal Funding of Public Broadcasting including the voice of the genteel Left, NPR. I was disappointed. I feel strongly about this and it will affect my vote.

My opinion is that if you, Senator Kay, want to keep NPR, then fine. Merge it with Voice of America and get rid to those two ladies. And no more cash from George Soros until America gets a clear idea who this guy really is. What country is he actually a citizen of and where does he pay taxes? Lets hear what this one truly has to say. Who knows maybe we’ll…I doubt it, but I’d like to hear him give it a shot. If he thinks he knows what’s best for everyone then let everyone hear it in a televised public forum, like C-Span or something. I do not believe the Federal Government needs to be funding his propaganda outlets. I have heard, from reliable sources, that he has plenty of cash.

I’ve called and sent email and signed a petition (online) about the earmarks. I still think Senator Kay is a Great Texas Lady and all that. I would like to suggest that Senator Kay might like to listen up. Not to me Ma’am, to the People. If you need to know just how the People are feeling and thinking; Ma’am, ask the Governor. He will tell you with four simple words. ‘ People are fed up.’

Texas District 27: Some Very Important aspects of a polarized district and a contested Congressional Seat; with links for independent study.

Nov. 15th, 2010

Many could say Texas District 27 is a polarized district. That observation would be correct in multiple ways.

This District has two areas that compete for Federal Dollars. These two areas are at opposite ends of the District. The one at the district’s northern end is Corpus Christi and the Texas Coastal Bend. At the extreme southern end, on the border of Mexico, is Brownsville and South Padre Island. This is an interesting aspect of polarity in this district. Here are some aspects.

The North End: Part of the Texas Coastal Bend, the northern part of the electorate is centered in the City of Corpus Christi and the surrounding areas. Some areas of note are Robstown, a Democratic Stronghold and reliable source of extra votes for the Democratic party, as well as Flour Bluff and the Island. People here like to vote and they are independent folk. Their main concern is what they feel best for their end of Padre Island. The following link is a good introduction.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corpus_Christi,_Texas

These are some area media links:

The Corpus Christi Caller Times – www.caller.com

KIII-TV – www.kiiitv.com

KRIS-TV – www.kristv.com

KZTV-TV – www.kztv10.com

The South End: Brownsville, Harlingen, and South Padre Island are home to the other major part of the electorate. This area is next to the border towns of Matamoras and Progresso, popular destinations for tourists and Texans alike. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brownsville,_Texas This link contains a wealth of information including media links and information on this area’s host county, Cameron County.

Cameron County is traditionally considered a reliable source of needed votes for Democratic Candidates. A good way to study this popular opinion is to review comments at www.caller.com attached to articles relating to TX 27 2010 Election coverage.

THE STUFF IN BETWEEN: This is some good stuff. Here’s some of it. We got:

The King Ranch –Just south of the City of Corpus Christi is an Institution of Texan Culture. This is the Great Ranch of Texas and there is no dispute, seriously, about that. The King Ranch is larger than the nation of Israel. It sits on a huge amount of oil. It produces cattle, grasses, heritage, and wildlife. It is a National Treasure of Texas.

http://www.king-ranch.com/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Ranch

The Rio Grande Valley- Officially the Rio Grande Valley, known in Texas as the Valley. This is an area of abundance of many things. My favorites are fruits and vegetables, a winter garden! I believe we have the best ruby red grapefruit in the USA! Come on down, taste it! It’s great! This is a link to a good article from Wikipedia on this part of Texas.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rio_Grande_Valley

The longest barrier island on Earth, Padre Island, TX, USA! – Both ends are important to District TX 27. Corpus Christi is near one end and Brownsville is close to the other. A large part of it is also a National Seashore for the USA.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Padre_Island

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Padre_Island_National_Seashore

In addition to Padre Island (Father Island) is the Laguna Madre (Mother Lagoon), a giant nursery for seafood and wildlife. They are side by side, read about it.

Our US Military presence – Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NAS_Corpus_Christi and Naval Air Station Kingsville., http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_Air_Station_Kingsville

Uranium - This is a valuable mineral in interesting times. Here is a link to an informative article that covers uranium mining in South Texas.

Now meet two of the neighbors, Dr. Ron Paul and Mexico.

Our Neighbor to the north, Dr. Ron Paul:

I don’t feel Dr. Paul of Texas District 14 needs an introduction, though for those who need a refresher course here is a link to his site. http://www.ronpaul.org/

Dr. Paul is generally well thought of in his neighboring district, TX 27, across demographic lines as a matter of fact. He would get many votes if lines were redrawn. He’s usually referred to as ‘Dr. Paul’ in this part of Texas.

Our Neighbor to the south, Mexico:

Until the Revolution we were part of Mexico. For many of us, there are no hard feelings, especially among true Catholics, and few seem to have a problem with visiting the neighbors on either side, especially if food, beer, or shopping is involved. Plus you get to go a foreign country without a passport, oh yeah, you used to. An interesting historical note; Officially Mexico considers the proper boundary with Texas to be the Nueces River and not the Rio Grande. The Nueces runs through District 27 at the northern end. It runs out on the north end of the City of Corpus Christi (Did you know Corpus Christi means ‘the Body of Christ’ in Latin?).

In Brownsville, this part of the border is starting to get rough. Previously that was up in Juarez across from El Paso way off to the west, now it’s coming down here following the Rio Grande River. Matamoras and Progresso, which are popular border towns have begun to experience cartel violence. Corpus Christ is still peaceful in that regard at the end of 2010.

For more information on the Mexican Border consult Fox News, http://www.foxnews.com/

A good review for Senator Jim DeMint.

Nov 14th, 2010

Corpus Christi, TX, USA

Up until the day of this writing I did not know too much about this gentleman. I had certainly heard the name. The first time, to my recollection, was in relation to that election in South Carolina. That was unusual, even by the standards of the Southland. This was no reflection on the Senator by any means, just a curious event to me. I thought I had read something about him in relation to this site, like he was on the board of directors or something. I was sure I had seen him on Fox News, my main source for US news, but at the time he hadn’t stuck in my mind. Today however was different.

After Mass, and a lengthy ride home due to a dead car battery, I got home, changed my clothes, had a snack, and turned on Fox News Sunday. I had it on as background noise actually because I was planning on typing out some well meant advice for one of my Texas Senators, Kay Bailey Hutchinson. It’s something I feel she needs to hear from one of her Fellow Texans. I like Senator Kay but I am starting to think she might need a rest.

For some reason I got distracted by something on the set. I turned and I looked and I saw a man on the screen of the TV. ‘That guy looks like a young Ronald Reagan. I wonder who that is?’ I thought.

Right after I thought that, Chris Wallace, the thoughtful host, said something to the effect of ‘Welcome Senator DeMint’. Chris Wallace is a very good host and has an uncanny knack of asking almost the same exact questions I’m thinking about 70% of the time. Now I knew who that gentleman was.

Senator DeMint was answering questions and my attention began to drift off when Senator DeMint made a remark that went straight to me, favorably. Senator DeMint admitted to being, ‘a recovering ear-marker’ (His exact words) and then offered up some concise and practical steps towards effective rehabilitation. He did an excellent job. What he said was good to hear on the Sabbath after Mass. He has a good grip on what most of the People want on this issue. Like one popular governor has noted, ‘People are fed up!’ Senator DeMint has it right. I hope the rest of America, on other networks, listens up.

My wish list for the 2012 Presidential.

Nov.15th, 2010

These last days of 2010 are a busy time both up in Washington, D.C. as well as for folks cleaning up messes on the local level like here in TX 27. In stressful times the mind seeks relief and one pleasant temptation is to turn one’s thoughts to 2012. There is nothing wrong with planning ahead and sensible recreation actually contributes to good job performance. So keeping that in mind and not trying to put the cart before the horse, I would like to share my ‘dream tickets’ for 2012.

My dream ‘Dream Ticket’ would be a one term Presidency for Dr. Ron Paul in tribute to his service and in deference to his years at it. For Vice President on this ticket my choice is Governor Gary Johnson.

Dr. Paul enjoys wide popularity outside of the Party and the Movement, sometimes in surprising places. One that really surprised me was in the African American community.

Governor Johnson will attract growing attention and did really well that time I saw him on Sean Hannity. Also the above ticket can have any of these following folks in the second position and still be just as effective.

He is a Catholic and the Church needs a shot at redemption in the eyes of the American People. Governor Palin is certainly worthy of the office. I feel that since she still has younger members in her family, a VP slot might be less strenuous at this time. There would still be opportunities to support the movement, maintain standing, as well as have other relevant experiences to holding a Federal office. It would take less time away from a young family. She and her husband, Mr. Palin, have been models of living the right to life ideal and also of family.

Just as a quick side bar, if demographic concerns arise a good running mate for all of these fine candidates would be Secretary Condoleezza Rice. People often get excited about the achievements of others from their home communities. I know I do. Expressions of congratulations are understandable and should not be considered a reflection on someone’s integrity.

Both of them walk and talk.

Summary of the race for Texas Congressional District 27 for Nov. 6th, 2010

2010 the race for Texas Congressional Seat 27 is in the following situation.

On Nov. 5th, victory has been tentatively settled on Blake Farenthold (R) and local Tea Party candidate. Mr. Farenthold won by a margin of 56 votes (at present count). At the close of the election the Office of the Secretary State of Texas gave Mr. Farenthold (R) the office with a margin of 799 votes with all precincts reporting. The day following the election the opponent Solomon Ortiz (D) refused to concede defeat and publicly he stated he wanted a recall. On Nov. 4th 2010 a small bag of votes was produced by the County Clerk Diana Barrera (D). It contained 7 votes, all for the incumbent. Additionally more boxes of votes began to appear. The votes counted giving Mr. Farenthold (R) a revised margin of 56 votes. The status of the recall is uncertain with no formal action taken by the incumbent.

Additional challenges face Mr. Farenthold (R) if a recount takes place. There is limited and biased coverage of him as well as extensive favorable coverage of his opponent. Mr. Ortiz (D). Mr. Ortiz (D) is portrayed as an elder statesmen and a person who brings Federal dollars into the area. Mr. Farenthold (R) is portrayed as inexperienced and slightly irresponsible. A major theme of his opponent’s advertising campaign was based on a photograph of Mr. Farenthold (R) in a pair of ‘ducky pajamas’ which was used in TV commercials, billboards, etc. as well as being featured in the Huffington Post. Mr. Farenthold advertising primarily his position and solution to various issues facing America. It should also be noted that the photograph used was taken at a birthday party at a private residence. The media market in Corpus Christi, TX is limited and acts in tandem. Coverage is virtually identical. The primary providers of information are four; The Corpus Christi Caller-Times (newspaper and website) and three major television stations (broadcast, on cable, and internet). Two of the television stations, KRIS-TV (NBC) and KZTV-TV (CBS) are owned by the same company. KIII-TV is the ABC affiliate and usually the most watched. There is a moderate viewer ship during noon do to a good sized number of senior in the area. There are also smaller less watched outlets like KAJA-TV and Telemudo as well as PBS and others. There is a good-sized ‘talk radio’ market as well. Several minor print newspapers round out area coverage of events. There is a small paper ‘We the People’ that is influential in the area and presents an interesting contrast in style. The images are of the American Flag, the Constitution, and Bald Eagles. It does good investigative journalism and has a decidedly Left point of view. It opposes Mr. Farenthold (R) and does not give him favorable or unbiased coverage. In it’s voters guide it used an unflattering photo of him, larger than the others and being the ‘Ducky Pajama Photo.’ In it’s informed the reader of rumored ethical concerns not substantiated.
