More From the Mailbag! (Open Thread)

We get a lot of hate mail here at RedState. Almost none of it is as entertaining as this. Take note, trolls: if you want your nonsensical rant to appear on the front page of RedState, from henceforth this is the bar it must clear:

From: Rod Burket

Date: February 28, 2010 10:11:10 PM EST

To: RedState

Subject: A complaint about your “moderator” Neil Stevens

I just recently created an account on your site.  Today, I was “banned” so to speak by a moderator whose name is Neil Stevens.  The thread that I supposedly caused him to terminate my account was http://www.redstate.com/moe_lane/2010/02/27/obama-administration-kills-23k-space-related-jobs-in-florida/#comment-30885

I am truly offended that someone like this Neil person would have the audacity to stop someone from expressing their ideas, or prevent someone from expressing their opinion.  If this is what Red State is all about, then I do not wish to be part of this online community.  If this is not retracted, and if I do not receive an apology, I shall write a blog posting about the practice of Red State’s representatives and how they are against the First Amendment of Free Speech.  I shall write to every blog site I belong to, and show the proof of the above referenced thread as my evidence which I have saved into my web browser.  I shall also visit your associated “partners” and also inform them of your actions today.

I must also mention that I am an editor for the Open Directory Project.  This is the online community of volunteer editors for the advancement and accurate placement of web sites on the internet.  If you are not familiar with this project, I would suggest you speak with your webmaster.  I am sure that he or she is familiar with this project.

My site called newfreedomblog.com is a site which not only promotes freedom of speech, but also tracks down those sites online which do not participate in this basic right in our great country.  I do hope Mr Stevens has just made a simple mistake, and is man enough to apologize.  I am sure he was simply having a bad day, and regrets his action.

Respectfully,

Rod Burket, Administrator newfreedomblog.com

http://www.newfreedomblog.com

Dear Mr. Burket,

Although it is by no means a certain thing, hopefully you are possessed of the brainpower to deduce whether that apology is coming your way any time soon, based on the fact that we have posted your most hilarious email on the front page for all to see and mock.

Good day,

snowboarding, and biatalon and I don’t think any of them even placed in single digits. At one time the U’s Fairbanks campus had a very strong shooting and biathlon program and was NCAA champion in biathlon for awhile, but it seems to have deteriorated. As is the case in other sports as well, the Winter athletes seem to suffer from a lack of quality competition and really aren’t prepared for the level of competitors they face in the Olympics. We’ve had some standouts in alpine skiing, Tommy Moe and Hillary Lindh are best known, but neither really became front rank competitors until they got out to the Lower 48 and faced stiffer competition.

about “George Bush II being thrown out of office”

1. Obviously, Bush was never “thrown out of office”

2. Calling President George W. Bush, George Bush II , a dead give away for being a lib.

3. Especially when the two are combined with the assertion how the 08 elections were all about Bush and had nothing to do with the ineptness of McCain or the media’s slobbering love affair with Barry H. Obama to name but two examples.

No no no, it’s about about Bush, and George Bush II and therefore we can conclude he was “thrown out of office!”

I suppose Mr. Burket has no problem if people do the following:

1.) Hold an assembly on his front lawn
2.) Bring properly permitted guns into his home
3.) Stand on his stoop and pray for him to be free from ignorance

And if he does have a problem, because it’s his home and he can bar people from exercising their rights on his property, then he’s a hypocite. If he doesn’t, then at least he’s consistently foolish.

then he wrote this little gem.

Maybe I am missing something, but, ignoring the specific proposals and threats of silly retribution in the letter, I can’t even imagine a Marxist Demrat ACLU lawyer or Al Sharpton construing the Burket letter to be hateful. Isn’t sombody getting a bit thin-skinned and trigger-happy lately , ex-communicating anyone who may disagree about something, maybe even, displaying political naivety or saying something stupid? In addition to his complete misrepresentation of the 1st Amendment, ol’ Rod seems to be trying to get some form of sympathy because Neil was cranky and cross with him.

Well, yes, Neil can be cranky and cross. Absolutely. And if I had been the one that Rod accused of being a [spit] progressive, I would have been more cranky and cross than Neil was.

As others have clearly and accurately stated, one does not invite one’s self into someone else’s house and immediately start criticizing the decor, rearranging the furniture, and urinating on the carpet. Such things, in most societies, are considered a bit rude, and grounds for ejection with extreme prejudice.

Entertaining, but hate mail

Dr. Botkin Monday, March 1st at 2:31PM EST (link)

is the specific reference to the Burket letter in paragrpah one of this post. We, of all people should be careful of using Justice Brothers tactics when excoriating people who disturb us.

I think you are taking the term "hate mail" way too seriously.

And isn’t Rod the one using “Justice Brothers” tactics when he threatens to use his editorial powers with the Open Directory Project to inflict harm on RedState?

Seriously. You are making an issue out of nothing.

Don't be so touchy...

Just sounds like a regular ole complaint a consumer might raise.

I must be quite a bit older then most of you, this letter is not a big deal at all. I think sometimes here at Red State you forget we are all on the same side.. Or so I thought we were.

smitch61, if Rod wanted to be on the same side, he wouldn't have called Neil a progressive.

As far as posting this email … Leon clearly stated that it was for the purpose of entertainment.

I'm a crotchety old man, and I got the humor in the initial post

RedBeard Monday, March 1st at 4:56PM EST (link)

Leon was just having some fun at the expense of a pufferfish blow-in who simply didn’t know when to back off, and who cooked his own goose by tossing a silly personal insult at a moderator who is not known to suffer fools gladly.

It really isn’t a big deal, I agree. But it is amusing.

So my thought is...

revolutionary Monday, March 1st at 3:51PM EST (link)

He states in his complaint letter that he runs a site that goes around looking for other sites that put restrictions on free speech. Seems to me like he got on here, made up a bunch of crap about being a conservative and then baited everyone to see if he could get a rise. Pretty sneaky and dirty. Did he honestly think that none of us would see throught the smoke and mirrors at what his real agenda was? What “conservative” in their right mind would go on a REPUBLICAN site and then argue about how bad the Pubs are? Really? I knew he was off his rocker when he tried to explain that lame comment about W getting thrown out of office!! HAHAHAHA! Is that what we are calling the end of the second term- being thrown out? Hang on mister “newfreedom” – we are on a mission to “throw” out your Libtard buddies! Hey I have an idea! Why don’t you pretend to be a Republican and go infiltrate a Libtard site…we’ll see just how long you last!

Let's face it

He’s really just mad because I publicly dismissed his website at something I didn’t care about and wasn’t going to visit.

So remember: Don’t actually visit his site. Mock it, mention it, but don’t link and definitely don’t click.

Harold Ford is out

tngal (Diary) Monday, March 1st at 11:05PM EST (link)

Open thread so , anything goes right? Harold Ford is not doing the NY senate race against Gillibrand (politico). Not sure why he got in to begin with. He was from Tn, but couldn’t make it as a TN Dem.. Most of ours our blue dogs. he went to NY but couldn’t cut it as as one of their Democrats. Not sure where he will turn up next. Watch out he could be coming to a state near you. I’m thinking we ship him to California.

I really don't understand why we're having such a hard time finding candidates.

randy streu (Diary) Tuesday, March 2nd at 6:49AM EST (link)

Seriously, here we are in an era of almost record dissatisfaction with how the Democrats do things. This is the perfect climate to take on the Lib senators in NY. And yet.

it’s very sad. And frustrating.
