Apparently, they held an anti-Stupak rally yesterday in D.C. in an effort to sway the Senate’s deliberations on Obamacare. You may not have heard about it because no almost no one came. In any event, at this rally, some sad excuse for an alleged Christian minister made the following statement:
“Don’t let anybody tell you that religious people don’t support choice,” [Carlton] Veazy said, according to CNS News. “You not only have a constitutional right for abortion, but you have a God-given right.”
First of all, haven’t we been told for years that when ministers suggest that God is opposed to abortion, this is evidence of a dangerous creeping theocracy? I haven’t heard any of these same logically challenged moral midgets make a peep about this kind of rhetoric on the pro-abortion side.
Second, where, exactly, does this guy get his information that there’s a “God-given” right to an abortion? It certainly isn’t in the Bible. It isn’t in any recognized religious tradition I’ve ever heard of (and I am at least relatively well-versed on this subject). Apparently, this “minister” Veazy feels that he has the plenary power to declare what God-given rights are, based on whatever he feels politically at the moment. In this case, he has declared, based on his (self-professed) ultimate authority to speak on behalf of God Almighty, that God has given women an inherent right to kill children growing in their wombs.
Memo to Carlton Veazy: the Christianity you profess to believe in already has an authoritative text, and it contains passages like James 3:1 that you might want to revisit in your spare time. Of course, you don’t have to believe in Christanity, God, or the Bible, but if you accept the basic premise of your stated faith (that being ultimate accountability to God on Judgment Day), you might want to be a little more careful of presuming to make false moral pronouncements on His behalf.

right to choose
augustarichard Friday, December 4th at 9:21AM EST (link)It scares me; however, I believe that I understand the perspective of the “minister”. Yes, God has given us free will and the ability to choose to do right or the choice to do wrong. Certainly, there will be consequences to our choices- if not here, then in the judgement. It is a most twisted evil logic, especially coming from someone who claims to represent “Christianity”. I do not believe that society should allow this free will to impede another’s right to choose, i.e. the unborn’s right to life, just as we have laws that curb our evil natures when in opposition to someone else’s choices. I told you it was scary.

Please do not pejorate...
jnoeagle Monday, December 7th at 10:46PM EST (link)Murder is a legal term, used to define a life termination (Killing) done without any legal protection. The commandment (unless in new, late-model versions) does not use that word. The appropriate word is Slay as in David slew Goliath with the jawbone… I believe the word Kill was used in the middle ages to describe what we now call a murder. The general verb Slay was used to describe any killing regardless of legal considerations. Common usage has changed in the last several hundred years. Slay has almost disappeared from the language, while Kill is used where legality is not an issue when discussing a life termination.
Confusing legal and illegal acts because we use words too loosely can lead to unexpected communication lapses. Whatever one’s belief about abortion and capital punishment, we must recognize the status of the laws (and court cases) establishing the sanctions against unlawful killing and the lack of sanctions against lawful killings. Even God has provided for lawful killings.
Your statement is perfect and is exactly in accordance with the law. It does not address abortions, since they are not against the law, and therefore are not murders. It also does not address capital punishment, combat deaths, and true self defense deaths.

From their own web site, the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice names “the Rev.” and their President and CEO. He is a minister of the National Baptist Convention. USA. Their website http://www.rcrc.org/about/index.cfm
Their purpose in their own words:
RCRC was founded in 1973 to safeguard the newly won constitutional right to abortion. The Coalition founders were clergy and lay leaders from mainstream religions, many of whom had provided women with referrals to safe abortion services before the Supreme Court legalized abortion in Roe v. Wade. The founders believed that there would be at most a ten-year struggle to secure the right to choose. In fact the struggle is far from over. It has changed and intensified, and the stakes are growing.

This organization has also developed “Faith and Choices Action Kits” (at a cost) for religious leaders and congregations intended to assist ‘groups in exploring what being pro-choice and pro-faith means today. These ‘seven kits’ have been developed for 7 denominations including:
•Presbyterian Church (USA)
•Episcopal Church
•United Church of Christ
•United Methodist Church
•Unitarian Universalist Association
•Conservative Judaism
•Reform Judaism
This group is sick and the churches that have joined this outrageous cause have completely lost their way. Unless they see the light and return to the teachings of Christ they will continue to self-implode.

The Bible doesn’t talk explicitly about abortion, but there are certainly unplanned pregnancies and abortion (apparently) is never even considered. David goes so far as to cause the death of Uriah – why resort to such extremities if God is perfectly fine with abortion? Joseph takes Mary away to cover up (what he mistakenly thought was) an unplanned pregnancy and plans to quietly divorce her later – but he never thinks of suggesting she abort Jesus. Why not, if God was is so ok with it?
How ludicrous. Can ministers be (the theological equivalent of) disbarred?

While individual priests in the Catholic church may not be able to teach their own doctrine, a lot of what has come from Rome is not Biblically sound and it permeates the pews. We need to pray for the gift of discernment to be able to tell the difference.
One of the groups that supports this “reverend” is Catholics for Choice. You need to ask yourself what these people could have been taught from the pulpit that would allow an organization like this to be formed.
I’m not Catholic, I’m a non-denominational evangelical Christian. However, all of us in the body of Christ need to helping educate our lost brothers and sisters and point them in the proper direction.

Don't blame the Church for the actions of a few
sirach Friday, December 4th at 2:30PM EST (link)Everything that comes from Rome is Biblically sound; it all has support in the Bible. You’ve probably been told over and over that Catholics are not Biblical but you have to look into it yourself. Would you talk to Democrats to find out about the successes of the Republicans, would you go to Ford for information on Chevy trucks? Then, to be fair, you must go to Catholic sources to find out what the Catholic Church teaches and claims for herself.
Bishops and their priests have all been taught the Scriptures and they know what the Scriptures and the teaching authority of the Church say about abortion. If they choose to teach, or OK, sinful behavior then they are in for trouble when they stand before Christ. Catholics for Choice are not Catholic, they are not a Catholic organization are, in fact, excommunicated. Those people might come to our churches and attend Mass but their hearts are far from God and Jesus’ Church. We try to correct these people but Satan likes to deceive and convince people that embracing sin (in any form) is correct and acceptable. People like to hear (or not hear) what they want. You can hardly blame the actions of the Catholic Church for the actions of these rebellious people.
A couple of points
wayneinnh (Diary) Friday, December 4th at 10:16PM EST (link)We are simply going to have to disagree on this. With that being said, I will be willing to bet that we have a lot more in common than not. sirach Saturday, December 5th at 4:02PM EST (link)You are right, there are probably many things we have in common but when you start off by bashing Catholics and their church you have to understand that Catholics will automatically tune you out. This is not a good way to witness or share your faith and you should know this. And, like you said, we have a great many things that we can work on together if we aren’t busy insulting each other.
I am a convert and I help other people convert as well. I am also involved in apologetics; Catholic apologetics. I would be interested in hearing what it is you feel is not Biblically sound in the Catholic Faith. Arguing theology doesn’t always have to divide, but I know that is a common belief of non-denominational Christians that it does.
May the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be always with you.

H (Diary) Monday, December 7th at 4:56PM EST (link)The misunderstanding is understandable. The main conferences of Lutherans, Anglicans, Methodists, Presbyterians, and a few calling themselves Capital B “Baptists” have signed onto declarations recognizing abortion as a a right or an actual “good”, depending on which brand of situational ethics each denomination has signed up to. The MSM has done a yeoman’s job of misrepresenting the likes of “Catholics for Choice” and other Culture of Death entities as having official Church recognition where they absolutely do not. But to be fair, there are certainly enough Roman Catholics, including clergy, who are sufficiently inculcated with modern culture that they think they are doing us all a favor by enlightening us, and our children, to their leftist perspective. The invulnerable defense against these quislings is none other than the Holy Spirit Himself, in the form of basic Catholic teaching that hasn’t changed in 2009 years and isn’t gonna regardless of what profanities they scream into the cameras.
If the Church is designed by Christ Himself to withstand against the Gates of Hell, “Catholics for Choice” ain’t got a snowball’s chance.

Jeremiah 32:35 speaks of child Sacrifice to Baal, and it was not unheard of for prophets and priests of Baal to offer infant/fetal sacrifice.
So unless this guy is a follower of Baal, he is WAY off on the “God-given” right to abortion.
God sees the end from the beginning, as demonstrated in Gen. 25:23 “…Two Nations are within your Womb”, not fetal matter, but Nations. God sees infants for who they will be, and sees their life in it’s entirety (beginning to end) with every possible outcome there could/will be, all at once.
With that in mind, this protester has no idea what he is talking about!
Now he could say, “God-Given possibility to sin”, but “God-give right” ignores the consequences and accountability that comes with the freedom to sin. For if God authorized the right, then you could point and say he is, in part, responsible for your reprehensible actions.

Have you ever noticed how those who are NOT Christian love to point out that we are somehow “BAD” Christians when we judge ANYTHING? Many of us have fallen for the completely erroneous position that as a Christian we are to judge NOTHING.
Firstly. I don’t go around (as examples) telling Homosexuals and Satanists that they are poor representatives of their repective categories, relgions and worldviews. I don’t feel properly qualified to comment on this as I am neither a homosexual or a Satanist and therefore don’t consider myself any sort of authority on what makes for a “decent” (SIC) homosexual or Satanist
Secondly, the verse in question, Matthew 7:1 doesn’t exist on its own. When read in context, and ANY scripture taken out of context is merely a pretext; it becomes clear that this teaching is about judging rightly and being free from hypocrisy. We ALL make judgements every day. If WE, having the mind of Christ refuse to judge, we are allowing others to make judgments in our stead.
I would also like to touch on two other topics that were mentioned. The Liberal view of killing the innocent and showing compassion for the guilty makes perfect sense when you realize that their positions are never about what they claim (or at least not solely). When a pro choice person claims to be pro life when it comes to convicted killers and the like they are really showing disdain for traditional Judeo-Christian values and laws. Whilst simultaneously adhering to a liberal humanist axiom. If, after all, we are no more than evolved animals all morals and judgements are relative and it is unfair to punish people for their actions. Without some externally verifiable cause for moral belief how can we with any certaintly claim that any one set of valiues or morals is any better than any other. Why hold people responsible for their actions? As animals shouldn’t we be free to ac like animals without fear of consequence?
Lastly I too could make a LONG list of the various reasons of why I don’t accept the Catholic church as a truly Christian organization. (Starting with the belief that outside the Catholic church there is no salvation) Arguing over it would do no one any good though. I also agree that pro-moral peoples of any and all religious stripe need to work together to thwart the push of anti-religious and anti-traditionalist forces.
