Durbin Isn’t So Much with the Reading Polls Thing

Last week we discussed that one of the main reasons the Democrats are trying to rush the Obamacare fight is that public support for the plan is falling like a rock, and Obamacare supporters are hoping to keep fence-sitting blue dogs from discovering just how unpopular the plan is with their districts back home.  That plan isn’t working too well as Democrat after Democrat is facing hordes of angry opposition from constituents at healthcare townhall meetings.  Electorally safe Democrats like Dick Durbin are now attempting to quell Blue Dog fears by asserting that all these people attending townhalls are fake, and that “public sentiment is in favor of healthcare reform”:

The only problem for Dick Durbin is that literally every poll taken concerning healthcare shows a plurality of the public opposed to the kind of healthcare reform currently being discussed in Congress.  Pew shows the public 44-38 opposed to “the healthcare proposals currently being discussed in Congress.”  According to NBC/WSJ, the public thinks “Barack Obama’s Healthcare Plan” is a “bad idea” by a 42-36 margin.  NPR‘s poll shows that the public is opposed by a 47-42 margin to “Obama and the Democrats’ healthcare proposal.”  Rasmussen has it closest of all, with the public opposing by a 49-47 margin the “health care reform plan proposed by President Obama and the Congressional Democrats.” Furthermore, these polls show a remarkable consistency in their trendlines, demonstrating that the public is becoming more opposed (and more firmly opposed) to Obamacare as time goes on.

But by all means, Dick.  Keep trying to sell vulnerable Democrats on the idea that the public as a whole is some sort fake astroturf effort.  I doubt it’ll be effective enough to actually salvage Obamacare, but it may well cost some Congressional Democrats their jobs.

Reminds me of Kevin Bacon's character at the end of _Animal House_

“Be calm! All is well!”

.. right up to the point where the crowd flattens him.

Here’s hoping Democrats with tin ears keep pushing this right up to the point where the backlash washes them out of office.

Let’s get down to brass tacks here. How much for the ape?

That list of 70 Targets for the NRCC is sketchy

scarlos (Diary) Monday, August 3rd at 5:46PM EST (link)

I mean, it leaves off so many good targets and takes up some bad ones.

Heath Shulter isn’t on it, and neither is Jim Marshall, both of whom are potentially good targets in Republican-leaning Districts

David Wu of Oregon is not likely to be in danger no matter what the political winds are, his Portland-based District is pretty solidly democratic, and Ike Skelton hasn’t had a competitive race since the Reagan years (though they might be just pressuring him to retire).

On the other hand, they might be betting that Pelosi is going to twist them into contentious votes (like Ike’s for Cap and Trade) which might give them the once-in-a-lifetime chance to unseating them.

I agree.

Some of the entries are fairly sketchy. The whole point, though, is to pick off something less than half of these guys, and the frosh/sophs are a relatively good place to start.

Also, Marshall seems to be prepared to scrape by indefinitely, and I think Shuler is well liked within his district (must not be Redskins fans). I’d include both on the list but it’s not crazy to leave them off.

We can’t stop here. This is bat country.

I happen to agree as well

I personally think that TX-23 is in play, but no mention of Ciro Rodriguez’s name. With the all the good chances, they want to show are hand to the dems. I hope it’s a bluff.

Joe Biden is like a Decrepit Park owner with a Meth lab that happens to not only be a dealer but a user.

Let’s Bankrupt the Democratic paty. Make spend all the money to defend thier candidates.

I'm suprised We aren't going after those Hispanic-Majority districts in Texas

scarlos (Diary) Monday, August 3rd at 8:19PM EST (link)

4 of them are potentially competitive, the 15th, 23rd, 27th, and 28th, in South and Southwest Texas. Their CPVIs are D+2, R+4, R+3, and Even, respectively.

A few have entrenched incumbents, but South Texas is ground zero for increasing our share of the Hispanic vote, as nowhere else are the Hispanic-majority districts so competitive.

Socialism is Oligarchy in disguise

If we go after just TX-23 and TX-28

Richard Mullins (Diary) Monday, August 3rd at 8:55PM EST (link)

we would have 3 out of 4 congressman in the San Antonio delegation as Republicans. Have all 4 of those, cuts out almost all of South Texas and makes TX-16 as the lone Democrat in West Texas.

Here is something that I find completely amazing

Leopard1996 (Diary) Monday, August 3rd at 7:03PM EST (link)

I was flipping through my XM and I happened to land on the America Left channel, and the jackass that was talking was talking how all the demostrations are astroturfing, and how some people were being tricked into signing things as part of their health plans that was sending money to some PAC that is funding these demostrations.

I love the way that when we start getting active it’s not authentic, but ACORN and busing people into a demostration is so authentic. To any liberals out there reading this, I am getting paid nothing, I am nothing more than a middle class salaryman, and I have nothing but total disdain for anything you asshats are trying to pull.

I wish I could say this still amazes me, but unfortunately it’s a trend throughout the lib world.

You’re right, of course. It’s very similar to their take on partisanship: When Republicans vote like one would expect Republicans to vote, they’re being given their marching orders by Rush or whoever. When Democrats vote like Democrats, they’re merely voting their conscience.

Basically, their viewpoint is that if you don’t agree with them, you are at the very least stupid–and at the very most, evil.

The two highest achievements of the human mind are the twin concepts of “loyalty” and “duty.” Whenever these twin concepts fall into disrepute—get out of there fast! You may possibly save yourself, but it is too late to save that society. It is doomed.

Be wary of strong drink. It can make you shoot at tax collectors–and miss.

polls

fotophun Tuesday, August 4th at 1:24AM EST (link)

for a party that lives by the polls, they do not want to believe they are on the wrong side of the issue.
When the polls show they are up, they sure do not have a problem believing them, but be on the opposite side and THE POLLS ARE FAKE, THEY ARE PHONY
the only thing phony are these clowns
all I can say is GET A REAL JOB
