Bob Casey Jr. Again Exposes the Myth of the Elected Pro-Life Democrat

Bob Casey Jr. ran for the Senate seat he currently occupies as an ostensible pro-lifer, just like his dearly-departed and still popular father. Sadly, judging by the election results, many pro-life voters in Pennsylvania believed his rhetoric. Today, Bob Casey Jr. voted against the Mexico City policy on the floor of the Senate, indicating clearly that he is not only pro-abortion, he is pro-government funding of abortion. It’s a helpful reminder, for the 1,000th time, that the “pro-life Democrat” really is a mythical creature, at least in the Senate and the White House.

It seems like every election season, this lesson is forgotten, no matter how many times the Democrats drive it home. To express this axiom somewhat mathematically, as a Democratic politician’s career rises towards President, the probability that he will actually vote pro-life approaches zero. Many prominent Democratic politicians (Al Gore, Jesse Jackson, Dick Gephardt) really do begin life as pro-lifers, but by the time they reach the Senate (and definitely by the time they run for President), they are invariably ardent pro-abortionists with their votes (even if, like Harry Reid, they prefer to say in public that they are pro-life). As we move forward in time from the date when the question of abortion was forcibly removed from the democratic process by the Supreme Court, the Democratic party has ever more successfully enforced pro-abortion orthodoxy upon those who hold offices involved with the selection of Supreme Court justices – i.e., Presidents and Senators.

And so Bob Casey Jr. becomes just the latest helpful reminder that any Democrat running for Senator/President who claims to be pro-life is a liar. What they really mean is that they will vote against any and all pro-life policies and Supreme Court justices, and then return and explain to you that they can’t actually vote their pro-life convictions. It’s also a helpful reminder to the hopelessly naive that when a Democrat running for Senate/President says they want to reduce the number of abortions, what they actually mean is that they want the government to pay for more abortions. There is literally no pro-life promise from a Democratic politician that should be believed whatsoever once that Democratic politician seeks office as a Senator or President. The Democrats have been busy proving this over and over for the last 20 years.

Thanks to Bob Casey Jr. for providing yet another reminder for the voters. Let’s hope this time that it sticks.

I don't blame Casey,

TxCon (Diary) Wednesday, January 28th at 3:08PM EST (link)

as much as I blame the dolts that bought it and voted for him.

Unfortunately

The rest of us that didn’t vote for him, knowing how he truly would vote, are stuck having him as our Senator. On top of that, Specter joined him in the “nays”.

Casey has ridden the coattails of his sainted father (still don’t understand that one either) from day one. I didn’t vote for Sr. or Jr. and will never vote for Jr. They are the worst kind of politician. They were average folks in Scranton until Bob Sr. got elected to public office. And now are they humble public servants? Heck no, they look down their noses at the little people, even though the little people keep them in their nice Green Ridge homes. They feel entitled to elected offices (a Scranton version of the Kennedys). I, for one, will fully support Bishop Martino if he refuses to offer Holy Communion. He has totally dumped the values he campaigned on, lying to the pro-life voters who ushered him into the Senate and he should pay for that. People need to remember this when he comes up for reelection.

Murkowski?

naraht Wednesday, January 28th at 3:14PM EST (link)

The vote was Party line with the following exceptions. Nelson (D-NE) voted yes, the Maine sisters, Specter (R-PA) and Murkowski (R-AK). Kennedy (D-MA) and Chambliss (R-PA) didn’t vote. (I’m pretty sure Chambliss would vote yes, not sure why he didn’t vote. I presume Kennedy would vote no, but not sure)

The Maine sisters, Specter and Nelson aren’t big surprises. But Murkowski?
Still wondering about Gov. Palin challenging Sen Murkowski in a Primary…

Murkowski is pro-"choice"

Always has been. Usually votes for Republican-appointed judges, though.

Votes on Supremes?

naraht Thursday, January 29th at 4:27PM EST (link)

Any idea if she is likely to stand along side her fellow Republican Senators when it comes to votes on replacement Supreme Court Nominees? (There will be at least one, if Stevens is still on the court in October 2012. I’ll eat my keyboard)

Yes, Murkowski

Kyle-MI (Diary) Wednesday, January 28th at 3:35PM EST (link)

Nelson is probably the only pro-life Democrat left in Washington. He is also one of the most fiscally responsible Democrats. He has to been to win in a dark red state like Nebraska.

Murkowski has always been pro-choice. She should be primaried in 2010 but I think Palin would be wasted in the Senate.

Nebraska...

Not much grumbling on Nelson’s vote over on Kos. Some Democrats in Red enough districts/states get a pretty free pass, figuring that as long as they vote for Pelosi/Reid at the beginning of the Session and a few others, they’re OK. Mostly they figure that primarying someone like Nelson, Rep Matheson (UT-2) or Minnick (ID-1) will end up losing the seat.

I just can’t see Palin in the Senate either. Though I think she’d drive some of the older members on both sides of the aisle straight up a tree.

But...

“indicating clearly that he is not only pro-abortion, he is pro-government funding of abortion. ”
The Mexico City policy doesn’t fund abortion. It funds health care for poor people. Yes, the funds can once again go to organizations that either perform or council abortions, but to say that that the MC policy funds abortions is like anti-religious people saying that money to faith-based organizations like soup kitchens or churches “funds prayer” or “funds religions.” The funds are separate and do separate things. That’s been the law since what, 1961?

Analogies not really your strong suit

Leon H. Wolf (Diary) Wednesday, January 28th at 5:26PM EST (link)

Your analogy works only if prayer costs money, which the government is partially funding. Otherwise, not so much.

Some of us don't think of abortion as "health care"

JustLeaveMeAlone (Diary) Thursday, January 29th at 4:55PM EST (link)

Oh, and “it’s been the law since…1961″? Slavery had been “the law” since before the USA came into being, and yet a civil war was fought.

Just cuz something is legal doesn’t mean it’s right.

Did I miss something?

Sean (SIConservative) (Diary) Friday, January 30th at 5:26AM EST (link)

When did Sen. Ben Nelson switch parties? Although he has opposed the Mexico City policy in the past, Sen. Nelson voted in favor of it this time, thus erasing the lone black mark on his abortion-related voting record.
