OMG, nice try Jay and Duh (same person?) Excellent point, Bruce. Had Obama had any similar association, forget it. Can you say SWIFT BOAT?

Maybe Palin was too busy doing speeches for Secessionists to remember to drive her daughter to the abstinence-only class?</blockquote>

Answer in your next post.

Eh, I think lots of you are reaching (aside from the the delicious irony of Blagojevich) ThinkProgress simply pointed out that she got it wrong, and the HuffPost that they link to showed how she truly DID NOT KNOW the role of the VP. Let's face it, she didn't know what it meant. That might be hard to swallow, and it might hurt to hear the other side jeer at the numbskull the GOP picked for VP, but them's the facts. The Veep does NOT have the ability to "really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes." They preside, and only in the event of a tie do they vote, and they do have a role in parliamentary procedures.

I remember an episode of The Factor (or Hannity or something) a few years back during the Roberts confirmation. Jay Sekulow was a guest, with Dick Cheney, and he was encouraging Cheney to push for the "nuclear" option.(or with Bush, should it be called the "nucular" option?) Cheney seemed aware of the ability to use it if needed, and it was all over talk radio and conservative blogs. Trying to cry foul over something Biden could do seems exceedingly hypocritical and tendentious.

Now, unless I'm wrong, and I'm happy to be shown as much, the issue is in fact different. Powell v McCormack does indeed provide the support for Biden wanting to point out that this is something that is a simple majority vote (so I don't know what all the talk of "nuclear" option is getting people so riled up.) Isn't this a question about whether the article in question is indeed in fact a matter of simple majority, and that it has been ruled upon? I could be wrong.

Either way, I mean, come on, it was abundandtly, abundantly clear to anyone who isn't below Gump-level intelligence that the RBC dude was talking about post-Inauguration Senate parliamentary procedure. I mean, trying to score a cheap "gotcha" out of the fact that Dick Cheney will preside over the Senate for another few weeks just dulls the otherwise sharper edge of your wit, Leon.

The Dems provide much more interesting fodder than this, wouldn't you think?

Sarah Palin was ridiculed for suggesting that the Vice President had a role in the Senate.

Q: Brandon Garcia wants to know, “What does the Vice President do?”

PALIN: That’s something that Piper would ask me! … [T]hey’re in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom.

shooting themselves in the foot. If they don't act - the filibuster could keep Franken away - if they do act won't they be playing into Blago's hands? So if they fight for the failure unemployed want to be talk show host Franken they will be killing their argument for stopping Blago's choice.

Hmmm... this is going to be interesting.

The 130 is the number of ballots that were double-counted in Minneapolis. There are over 600 absentees that Coleman wants to include in the recount. There are outstanding legal challenges on both. Of course I've been expecting Franken to "win" from the start when Coleman was 775 ahead, but it is not over at this point.

It looks like Leon's post is no longer operational. According to Powerline, Franken's lead increased to 225 votes today when additional "wrongfully" excluded absentee ballots were counted. Since Coleman was going to be able to challenge only 130 votes, he has lost the race.

Franken in the Senate -- God protect the United States.
