Do you see this diary? This diary is a great example of what not to put in a diary. It is a great example of what to put in an open thread instead. I would delete the diary so that it wasn’t sitting there pushing a diary someone spent time and effort on off the list, but I wanted to leave up an example of a diary that does not belong in the diaries section.
No personal offense to the diarist intended, who I’m sure is a perfectly nice guy. But we need to start being more conscious of using diaries for substantive posts rather than toss-offs, which belong in an open thread. Like this one!

I'm Confused

This diary strikes me as a human interest story. I’m not sure why it is so bad. Is it because of the content or is it because of the length.
In the diary posts around this one, I see story on an Obama Q &A (Obama Addresses Blagojevich Scandal) which is extremely short – much less time and effort were expended on that post that the above author evidently expended on his. Also, there is a Beethoven birthday entry which consists of just a picture and a caption.
I’m really not trying to argue here; just trying to understand. Why is this one so bad and others not?

As originally posted, it was pretty much just a link, along with a few sentences that failed to describe why it was important enough to bump from the sidebar a member diary that probably had a lot more to say.
As far as the posts you had mentioned, those are on the frontpage, which is different than member diaries. It’s not a problem if they’re short, since they do not interfere with the member diary sidebar on the right.
Can anyone confirm if i am right or not?

Finally, today on FOXnews Neil Cavuto had someone on (was unable to find video to link to yet) discussing what I have been whining about since CRA discussions, especially around the Election time…. That while Taxing authorities are very quick to try and raise the value of your Property in order to drive the Taxes you pay upwards (to increase the funds they have to play with) they WILL NOT just voluntarily lower them despite whole areas of the Nation having had Property Values drop 30%. Finally someone else, and in a position to get the notion across to many more people than I could here at RedState, is reminding folks that you have options!! The time is NOW to go and file an appeal on the stated value of your Property to lower your Tax burden!
Get a new appraisal, if need be, in the long run the money you save in taxes will cover that cost…
Go to your County (or other Taxing authority) and get any paperwork in person…
Don’t accept their first rejection (they don’t want to lower anyones taxes), file an appeal…
Get this done BEFORE your next Property tax bill comes due
If paying your Taxes, put “PAID IN PROTEST” in the memo field of your Check (according to the expert on Cavuto) before or during your dispute period…

We continue to hear about how Property values have fallen upwards of 30% across the Country. Little discussed, was how Democrats rejoiced at the CRA affects on local Municipality revenues as Property values ballooned and Tax revenues went up, allowing them (in turn) to ramp up their wasteful spending!! They didn’t care whether people could afford the homes, or risk to Banks, how it was pricing still others out of the Market, etc… as long as they got their Tax Revenues based on the OVER-INFLATED RATES!
Now that Property values are down WHERE ARE THE PROPERTY ADJUSTMENTS!?!?! Each State is different, but most States that have a Property Tax have some mechanisms by which you can CHALLENGE your “Fair Market Value” of your home and therefore the amount of Taxes owed annually. You are most likely due a REBATE – well, at least a reduction.
GO DEMAND (well maybe not demand, ask nicely) YOUR 30% PROPERTY TAX REDUCTION!
