If I remember correctly it was Tolkien's aim to give us, the English-speaking peoples, a modern day myth to illustrate timeless principles, strengthening and informing our culture. Given this parody, he's succeeded far beyond his aspirations.</p> <p>On another note, since I understood 95+% of the references, I must have a terminal case of Tolkien fandom.
