Memo to the New York Times: You Don’t Understand Conservatives, Republicans, or Independents.

NY Times on Palin

(Click for full image)

Apparently, the New York Times has decided to take a day off from the exhausting work of alerting our terrorist enemies to our secret plans to stop them from attacking us, and has decided to focus instead on the vital issue of Bristol Palin’s pregnancy. Currently, on the front page of the New York Times there are three (THREE!) front page (FRONT PAGE!) stories concerning Bristol Palin’s pregnancy. You know, the United States Military handed over control of the Anbar province to the Iraqi military yesterday, there was another hurricane that hit New Orleans, protesters at the RNC are resorting to increasing levels of violence, attacking the Connecticut delegation with bleach, but Bristol Palin being pregnant deserves THREE headlines in the NYTimes. All of the above mentioned stories, apart from Gustav, got ZERO.

It isn’t difficult to discern what the Times is getting at, here. When the Times isn’t busy committing treason, it’s busy doing what it thinks will hurt Republicans. And in this case, it thinks that providing oodles of coverage concerning Bristol Palin’s pregnancy will be harmful to Palin’s image among Republicans and/or independents.

Fortunately for us, this is the newspaper that was so shocked by the results of the 2004 elections that it actually sent a reporter to visit the red states as though they were some foreign country, or perhaps existed on another planet populated by strange alien creatures. I’m quite certain that most Times reporters do not know a single person who voted for Reagan over Mondale. So their knowledge of what the average Republican/Independent is bothered by is, shall we say, limited at the least.

And so, for the benefit of the reporters of the New York Times, allow me to expose you to some of the strange, alien thinking that exists outside the hallowed soil of Manhattan Island. It turns out, we rubes out here in the sticks don’t really think that a teenage pregnancy disqualifies the mother of that teenager from being Vice President. You think your average independent is anything other than horrified with the way Bristol Palin is being treated by you Obama supporters right now (and make no mistake, the average independent knows which side the New York Times is on in this election)? And when it comes to us religion-clingers, the reaction isn’t much different. You see (try very hard to follow this, Times reporters), while we would prefer that teenagers not have children out of wedlock, we prefer, as the next best option, that they have the kid and either keep it or give it up for adoption. And furthermore, we all realize – even out here in flyover country – that kids make mistakes no matter who their parents are.

The Times and other assorted liberals are going bonkers today asserting that this means that McCain did a poor job vetting Palin, despite the fact that the McCain camp has said that they knew about this. The thing these people do not realize is that the vetting process turns up dirt on everyone; the second half of the vetting process involves asking, “Will the American people care about this information?” The answer here is clearly no.

So please quit trying to pretend that you have any understanding whatsoever of what’s going on in the rest of the country, and that you know that we’re all scandalized by the Bristol Palin story. Or better yet for our side, please keep doing it. I’m sure it’ll go over marvelously in the long run.

Memo to John McCain

loosegoose2287 Tuesday, September 2nd at 9:28AM EST (link)

If he caves to the chattering class – the hypocritical liberals – the inside the beltway idiots – whomever would take the blame – and allows Sarah Palin to be removed or removes her from this ticket it’s very simple – GAME OVER.

Before Sarah Palin’s selection I was one of those lukewarm McCain supporters. I was going to vote for him simply because I dreaded the prospect of a ultraleftwing presidency.

Since the selection I’ve donated, I’ve worked to spread the word, I’ve talked him up, I’ve talked Sarah Palin up – in other words I’ve become energized. From what I’ve read all over the blogosphere I don’t think I’m alone.

That all said, a cave in here – a failure to recognize that the American Electorate is NOT the NTSlimes and I’m gone. I’m done. I’ll vote for Bob Barr to help keep the Libertarian Party on the ballot. I’ve done it in the past and I’ll do it again. Why? Because it’ll be ANOTHER betrayal in the long list from the GOP and Senator McCain.

thankfully they wont be around much longer

there is only so much red ink the dead tree media can absorb. Just use it for fish wrap and move on with your life.

I think all this media dragging Gov. Palin throught the mud is going to back fire on them. The way I see it, people are going to relate to Gov. Palin, she has to deal with life just like everyone else does.

Make no mistake, you've hit the Dems' strategy right on the nose!

(And this is coming from a Dem):

Over the next few weeks, the goal of the Democratic Party (or at least the goal they should be pursuing if they’re smart) is to force Palin to step down. “Pregnant-gate” is just the warm-up. They’ll pull out the big guns for “Trooper-gate” and “Alaska-Independence-Party-gate.” While “Pregnant-gate” is a stupid road to pursue (nobody likes to see a person’s family pursued), the other two only offer upside potential.

The dilemma that this presents to Mccain is that if he keeps her, the attacks continue through election day. If he drops her, though, he effectively admits that he made a bad call, thereby compromising his claim to having superior judgment.

I agree though, that no matter how bad the attacks get, he has to stick with her. If he drops her, he’s done.

Where lefties show themselves for who they are, and the rest of America goes, “yecchh”.
Pounding on Palin is like Hillary’s first opponent invading her space. It will backfire at a viseceral level.
Pounding on Palin and saying she is unbearably light only shows how Obama is even lighter.
Obama recognizes this and is pleading- at least publicly- to leave her alone.
As for the ‘troopergate’, attacking a Governor firing a troubled officer, with a record of DUI and other offenses, and the person who refused to order to fire him, ain’t goona work.

Just read the paper

dld1717 (Diary) Tuesday, September 2nd at 10:38AM EST (link)

Just read the paper and what I always find smug is the paper says its Republicans feeling this way about her

How awful Sarah is that she went back to work 3 days after giving birth to her new baby. How awful that woman goes back to jobh she was elected to do. Damned if you do; damned if you do not.

I have good line for Sarah the next time she is attacked as a woman not being able to handle being mom and potential VP she needs to quip that at least she won’t have to handle having an affair too.

Thank you Leon

For your stories today. I have seen a small amount of mainstream television news coverage since the Palin announcement. Last night I saw Nightline, and I was just at a loss for words for how they were treating the related stories.

  • All too happy to splash her (Bristol’s) picture up on national television.
  • All too happy to spread the rumors in the guise of news: “top blogs are abuzz with reports that Bristol is actually Trig’s mother…”
  • “Conservatives and Evangelicals can’t be too happy that such a naughty little girl came from the Palin household!!!”

I think these echo chambers filled with liberal “journalists” are in the midst of a panic fit.

we wouldn’t be having this discussion even if she were sixteen and he thirty-five. Only Republicans could commit statutory rape. Only Democrats can have private and family matters.

at the convention, expectations will be set so low–everyone will be expecting a barely literate, fire-breathing, knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing, vindictive, vengeful right-wing hate machine that they’ll be blown away. Palin will be immune to any smear after that. She will have the teflon the Clintons used to have and every smear will be dismissed–legit or not–as “Oh, that’s just a bunch of kooks. Again.”

Golly gee, DailyKos, don’t be a’throwin’ us in the briar patch. It’d be sure painful if’n you did.

Amazing that with this kind of coverage, the NYT

janis (Diary) Tuesday, September 2nd at 10:52AM EST (link)

becomes what they so derided a few short weeks ago–a trashy tabloid. The difference is that the National Enquirer actually makes money and doesn’t try to present themselves as something they are not.

Good one jimmuy8!

Matthew Morris (Diary) Tuesday, September 2nd at 10:53AM EST (link)

Especially the briar patch part!

But… the media is coming out against the Palin pick like nothing else, attempting to destroy Governor Palin by way of 17-year-old-girl decimation. I wish I could believe they would allow her to have post-convention teflon. But they were all too happy to ignore the teflon she ought to already have in the first place.

McCain dumps Palin. NYSlime can keep this on the front page from now until the election. Every day. Top of fold. McCain won’t back down.

Does anyone know how many Rev. Wright/Ayers stories have graced the front page of the NYT over the course of this whole campaign?
