ABC News Reporter Handcuffed, Jailed for Reporting on Democrat Ties to Lobbyists

In the fevered imaginations of modern American liberals, Republicans (in particular, George W. Bush) have been hard at work these last 8 years silencing dissent, blackholing the press, and shipping everyone who disagrees with them off to Gitmo. Of course, this notion is ludicrous. One need look no farther than the editors and publishers of the New York Times, who today walk the streets as free men (publishing self-laudatory books about their heroic exploits) despite publishing news stories on at least two highly classified Bush administration intelligence-gathering programs.

Over the course of the last two weeks, I hope the media have caught on to a simple, basic fact: no American politician in the last generation has been more willing to utilize intimidation and abuse of the Court system to silence and intimidate his political opponents and critics than Barack Obama. As noted yesterday, Obama and his legal advisor have a long history of threatening his political opponents with jail time for criticizing him based on spurious interpretations of election finance law. Currently, they have not once but twice sought to have the Department of Justice criminally prosecute the producer and financier of the factually accurate ad tying Obama to terrorist Bill Ayers. As noted by one of the commenters to that piece, Obama’s entire political career has been littered with foes who mysteriously found themselves either “disqualified” from being on the ballot due to Obama’s machinations or discredited and scandalized due to information contained in sealed court documents (e.g., divorce records).

Now comes this latest. What with all the brouhaha going on in Denver this week, the Democrats took the opportunity to woo some fatcats and lobbyists in nearby but comparatively secluded Boulder, CO. ABC News sent a crew down to Boulder to see who would attend. The end result wasn’t so great for the ABC News crew:

DENVER — Police in Denver arrested an ABC News producer today as he and a camera crew were attempting to take pictures on a public sidewalk of Democratic senators and VIP donors leaving a private meeting at the Brown Palace Hotel.

Police on the scene refused to tell ABC lawyers the charges against the producer, Asa Eslocker, who works with the ABC News investigative unit.

A cigar-smoking Denver police sergeant, accompanied by a team of five other officers, first put his hands on Eslocker’s neck, then twisted the producer’s arm behind him to put on handcuffs.

You can read the whole thing for yourself, and ABC’s got video as well. So what do you think, media? How do you fancy the prospects of an Obama Presidency now? It’s been a pretty good run for you this last 8 years, the way you’ve made a cottage industry of exploiting leaks in the Bush administration and shining the harsh glare of truth on the war (until the truth became “we’re winning,” of course, but I’m not telling you how to do your job). Ironically, the only reporter sent to jail during that time was sent for refusing to reveal a source that would have potentially implicated the administration. How do you want to spend the next 8 years? Are you ready to start worrying that if you cover the wrong story, some redneck cigar-smoking (gasp) sherriff is going to handcuff you, throw you in the back of a patrol car, and not even tell you what the charges are?

The evidence is piling up that this would be life in an Obama Presidency. The question is whether you’re interested in continuing to help create it.

UPDATE: With apologies, it appears that the arrest actually took place in Denver. I have no idea why the Boulder police are involved in this story at all.

The Gestapo takes another goose step...

ChicaGOP (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 8:14AM EST (link)

Here in Chicago, Obama is personally starting a campaign of intimidation against a local media outlet – for daring to discuss the Ayers thing.

Look at the e-mail he sent to supporters here in town – it’s covered by the Chicago Tribune, which owns the radio station targeted.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/chi-obama-wgn,0,3744149.htmlstory

“In the next few hours, we have a crucial opportunity to fight one of the most cynical and offensive smears ever launched against Barack.
Tonight, WGN radio is giving right-wing hatchet man Stanley Kurtz a forum to air his baseless, fear-mongering terrorist smears. He’s currently scheduled to spend a solid two-hour block from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. pushing lies, distortions, and manipulations about Barack and University of Illinois professor William Ayers.

Tell WGN that by providing Kurtz with airtime, they are legitimizing baseless attacks from a smear-merchant and lowering the standards of political discourse.

Call into the “Extension 720″ show with Milt Rosenberg at (312) 591-7200
(Show airs from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. tonight)

Then report back on your call at http://my.barackobama.com/WGNstandards

Kurtz has been using his absurd TV appearances in an awkward and dishonest attempt to play the terrorism card. His current ploy is to embellish the relationship between Barack and Ayers.

Just last night on Fox News, Kurtz drastically exaggerated Barack’s connection with Ayers by claiming Ayers had recruited Barack to the board of the Annenberg Challenge. That is completely false and has been disproved in numerous press accounts.

It is absolutely unacceptable that WGN would give a slimy character assassin like Kurtz time for his divisive, destructive ranting on our public airwaves. At the very least, they should offer sane, honest rebuttal to every one of Kurtz’s lies.

Kurtz is scheduled to appear from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. in the Chicago market.

Calling will only take a minute, and it will make a huge difference if we nip this smear in the bud. Confront Kurtz tonight before this goes any further:

Please forward this email to everyone you know who can make a call tonight.

Keep fighting the good fight,

There’s more. Scary stuff, huh?

The modern liberal is defined as one whose sense of guilt has exceeded his capacity for restitution – making it not only forgivable, but morally superior to raid someone else’s larder to pay his bottomless debt.

in a conservative paper and watch the sparks fly. Hope McCain is on top of this.

A troubling left-wing trend for years has been the flirtation with state control of speech.

spainishirish (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 9:45AM EST (link)

Talk radio? Shut it down.
FOX? Shut it down or ignore it.
The Internet? Regulate it.
Troubling columnists? Cheer their illnesses, pray for their deaths.

The days when liberals respected the First Amendment are long behind us (there remain exceptions of course). Obama has marked a further drift toward statism with his willing use of law enforcement and threats to shut down media venues. This is more than mere Chicago thuggery, it is quasi-fascism. Even with its fatuation with Obama, the MSM should realize this wasn’t some talk radio personality who was assaulted but one of their own. They could be next.

Given this inability to deal with free speech, other troubling questions are raised about Obama. How would he handle a loss of the electoral college as he won the popular vote? How would he if elected, God forbid, react to a re-election loss and the peaceful transfer of power? That first question about the EC is the best reason, no matter how upset someone may be with McCain–even in a state where he will win in a blow-out–to vote for him this year. If enough go to the polls, we won’t have to deal with the second problem I listed.

Troubling

This is truly a troubling article

I have some thoughts: If BO should win the Presidency (God forbid) and with the Dems in control of the House and Senate: What could stop this man from proclaiming himself Dictator for life. Please don’t say the Constitution since they don’t abide by it now. How could it be stopped

Another thought: What would happen if he should win the presidency and on Inaugration Day he refuses to swear to Uphold the US Constitution

Does anyone have any thoughts

This man scares me. Terribly. I have been voting for the last 40 years and I have never been so terrified of a candidate in my life as I am of BO

Don't Be Scared of Big Brobama!!

America has enough armed pick-up trucks to take care of any squishy pacifist left-wingers who would like to imprison people for violations of DoubleThink or failure to love Big Brobama enough!

As of November 4, 2008, the Code Words will be: “Klaatu – Borada – Nikto!”

the dimorcats are our worse nightmare

Jack (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 10:51AM EST (link)

Anyone who believes they will not move heaven and earth to silence all criticism is delusional. The worse thing about they will have more then enough share of people who will support them.
MSNBC and CNN since they can’t beat FOX will delight in watching them being silenced. The New York Times will write editorial after editorial saying that the actions taken by a BO regime is for the good of the country.
Just sit back and let the all knowing, all seeing government do it for you. Lets be real MSNBC, CNN, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and almost every other media outlet have degenerated into just being rewrite people for Obama.
They accept everything as fact that comes from Obama and his minions and never question them.
It is time to be afraid, very afraid.

what the Boulder County Sheriff was doing in Denver (Denver is not in Boulder Country for those of you in Rio Linda). From the article:

Video taken at the scene shows a man, wearing the uniform of a Boulder County sheriff, ordering Eslocker off the sidewalk in front of the hotel, to the side of the entrance.

The sheriff’s officer is seen telling Eslocker the sidewalk is owned by the hotel. Later, he is seen pushing Eslocker off the sidewalk into oncoming traffic, forcing him to the other side of the street.

It was two hours later when Denver police arrived to place Eslocker under arrest, apparently based on a complaint from the Brown Palace Hotel, a central location for Democratic officials.

My best guess is that the BCS got pulled in for extra security during the convention. Still don’t make up for the way they treated him.

15 years ago, I loved the BCS, I got pulled over about 10 times by them and never got a ticket or a written warning.

This is going to be a problem if true

Darin_H (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 11:30AM EST (link)

ABC has video shot at the scene of the arrest, showing a hotel security guard, wearing the uniform of a Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, ordering Eslocker off the sidewalk.

Hmmmm…. someone’s got some explaining to do.
