Let’s Play a Little Game!

Okay, here’s the deal.

Let’s play a game.  I’ll write something that I sincereley believe President Bush was excellent at, that helped the our nation and the world, and someone else responds with something that they sincereley believe that President Obama has done well.

Snark is expected, if not exactly encouraged, but truly snarky responses should be followed up with something nice.

I guess I’m hoping that we can find some common ground, and spend at least a few posts realizing that we live in what is unquestionably the best nation in the world (and I’m a Danish citizen, so me saying that is HUGE.  Danes are insanley nationalistic.  I was taught to hate Swedes over a war that ended 600 years ago or something.  I do not hate Swedes fwiw.  I overcame my racist upbringing).

I’ll go first:

1) President Bush was an amazing leader after 9/11.  I was scared, angry, confused; Bush got up there and convinced me that he was in charge, and that my government was going to do everything in its power to keep me safe.

2) President Bush was an incredible humanitarian when it came to preventing and treating AIDS.  This means a lot to me, because my Uncle died of AIDS before there was real treatment.  A relic of his misspent youth, but regardless, untreated AIDS is a horrible, horrible, thing.  President Bush showed incredible compassion and vision in promoting his AIDS policies.

He Beat Hillary

exitsfunnel Thursday, May 14th at 9:42PM EST (link)

Thanks to Barak Obama I will almost certainly never have to listen to Hillary Clinton deliver a State of the Union Address. Regardless of how much I hate much of what he’s done and am sure to hate much of what’s to come, for that I will always be grateful.

Disagree; HRC would have had opposition from

Achance (Diary) Friday, May 15th at 9:26AM EST (link)

both the left and right and while obnoxious is a fairly traditional leftwing Democrat. BHO is a communist trained organizer who wants to fundmentally remake the American economy and culture. He has no opposition from the Left and no effective opposition from the Right because the right is paralyzed by fear of being labelled racist.

I agree with that exit!

One of my friends said that Hillary would have been the Nixon of the left. The thought is chilling.

Here's my good thing

JustLeaveMeAlone (Diary) Thursday, May 14th at 9:50PM EST (link)

Barack Obama has proven that Americans will not exclude anyone from the presidency based upon race.

Here’s another:

Barack Obama has caused me to come out of my own complacency and truly examine my beliefs and question what I’m willing to do to stand for them. He has made me more politically aware than I’ve ever been in my life: I’m not paying attention, after years of taking things for granted.

“To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.” Thomas Jefferson

I don't think I could have come up with a better answer than this...

JadedByPolitics (Diary) Friday, May 15th at 6:58PM EST (link)

because I truly despise this leftist tool and this game I would not have played because I have nothing nice to say about him….but yes that he has proven ONCE AND FOR ALL that this is NOT a racist nation is the best that can be said of him!

I was an extremely involved person politically prior to him but he has gotten me to beome even more engaged! NOW I am a hyperpartisan and he has shown me that NEVER will I EVER support a moderate in the Republican Party because he is proof that you CAN be true to your political leanings and get elected NOW if Republicans who THINK they are Conservative would just do the same!

He's made a lot of people regret voting for him.

janis (Diary) Thursday, May 14th at 9:58PM EST (link)

And that’s a good thing as far as I’m concerned. Other than that, he’s re-energized conservatives and for that I thank him profoundly.

I think that's kinda cheating =)

leftylurker (Diary) Thursday, May 14th at 10:43PM EST (link)

But you’re right. He did re-energize the right.

And that is good, because we need 2 (or more) parties in this country.

Okay. Although what I said didn't represent snark, just the truth.

janis (Diary) Friday, May 15th at 9:01AM EST (link)

If you want something that Obama did that was good, then he decided not to release the Gitmo photos. They shouldn’t have been brought up in the first place, they should never have been threatened to be released, but at least he backed down in the end. Why? I don’t know. It’s hard for me to believe that his good sense and conscience kicked in, because I’m not convinced that he possesses those as I know them, but for whatever reason, he backed down and that’s a good thing.

I don’t know if you can do this kind of diary too often though, leftylurker. It’s going to be tough for us to come up with positives as this administration progresses.

He increased food stamps allotments nt

mom2oneson (Diary) Thursday, May 14th at 11:12PM EST (link)

mom2, I find that hard to consider a good thing.

janis (Diary) Friday, May 15th at 3:23PM EST (link)

If he had decided to have the food stamp rolls audited and then toss off those who shouldn’t be there, then I’d applaud. But just to increase the amount you get? Sorry, that’s not something I can get behind.

He allowed the military to take out the pirates

BAW Friday, May 15th at 12:07AM EST (link)

But where I sincerely think he excels is in making clear the left’s extreme view of government. If McCain had been elected we would have continued a slow slid to the left. Now, the American people (if the haze of adoration lifts) will see and experience the most dramatic effects of not just bigger government but an all powerful government. Specifically, Obama’s view of an all knowing government. At that point there will be a very clear choice. An ever more powerful central government (based on the elitist view that the people can’t and shouldn’t make any decisions for themselves) or a return to more limited government and thus the personal freedom envisioned by our founders.

At this point, I’m not confident the American people will make the right choice but I do believe the Obama administration is going to make the decision clear.

I would content this is something that could “help” our nation and therefore the world or it could very well go the other way.

I don't think he realy did.

gekster (Diary) Friday, May 15th at 12:59AM EST (link)

If the end result of shooting the three pirates led to the forth one killing the Captain, then he would not have ordered it.
And if I recall, it was a standing order to NOT do harm to the pirates UNLESS there was iminent danger to the captain.
The Captain of the USN Ship towing the pirate boat thought he saw a pirate look at the Captain.
And since looking at someone in America in some circustances could be seen as a threat, the Captin of the USN Ship ordered the shoot.
If it went bad, Obama would not be a part if it.

They say Republicans are for the rich, Democrats are for the poor.
If they need more voters,
then they have to make more of who they are for.

We are there in the various Tea Party groups, leaderless, but not rudderless.
We steer always toward the Constitutional principles this nation was founded upon.
Erick Brockway

Ok folks, 2012 is here. Get involved

With Obama in office, it's a lot harder to confuse Republicans with Democrats

He is a good role model in his marriage

Kyle-MI (Diary) Friday, May 15th at 11:45AM EST (link)

He is actually married to the mother of his children. In this respect he has shown good personal responsibility. We need more role models like this for both the minority community as well as society as a whole.

Good things . . .

He did get many of us to wake up to the Fabian socialism occurring in this nation.

He did show us that collectivists are incapable of honestly paying their taxes.

He did show us that Americans can drink a lot of Koolaid, just like other societies.

He picked a cute dog.

Guess, that’s about it.

Honestly, LL, I Can't Think of One Good Thing

IJB Friday, May 15th at 3:35PM EST (link)

There isn’t one I can point to.

With Clinton, there actually were legitimate things, here and there, that I could point about either him or his policies that I could say were “good” (or, at least, that elicited grudging admiration).

But with Obama, Carter and Johnson, it’s *zero* – there’s not one good thing the latter two did, and not one good thing the former is doing, or will do.

Well, actually, there is one thing – during the Clinton era, I was one of those who became overly fixated on the Clintons (probably because the GOP actually controlled Congress for most of the time), which made me not pay enough attention to many of the other real ‘bad actors’ among the Democrat Party.

What I can say is that now, with Obama, my personal animosity isn’t very focused on him, but *is* very focused on Democrat politicians, Democrats as a whole, and Obama supporters in general.

So, I guess, if there’s one good thing to come out of this – it’s that I’ve realized the “problem” is much bigger than just Obama, and is going to involve taking a whole lot more people *down* than just him.

But, I suspect, this wasn’t the kind of answer you were hoping for…

That's a good point, IJB

I often picture Obama waking up laughing, wondering what he’s going to get away with.

While I think some are starting to come around to the perils of idol worship, in my personal, real-life experience, most of the strong Democratic “believers” are still infected with BDS and they take any criticisms of Obama from me personally. It’s like they just can’t fathom separating the criticism of the policy/agenda from the person.

did not succeed in completely hiding his socialist core. A smidgin of truth peeped out to allow the informed to be onto him before the election.

Some would say it wasn’t really honesty but pride in his communistic beliefs. Whatever, at least he hasn’t been able to fool all the people all the time.

has alienated pretty much every corporate board of directors in the country. Now THAT takes a level of malignant efficiency that our side would be very hard-pressed to match. He’s also offended and threatened quite a few of his own large campaign donors.

Quite the people person, isn’t he?

Way to give the guy credit, Janis.
