It seems that every time we have a crucial bill thatwill impact our nation for generations, depleting our liberty, and bringing us ever closer to a soialist government, Republicans betray their country. Why is that? It’s not bad enough we have to put up with liberal democrats, but dfo we have to put up with waffling Republicans too. If those Republicans who betrayed us all aren’t voted out of office i 2010, we really deserve what we get. I expect being betrayed by Democrats, that just who they are, but to my surprise, I am cheering those Democrats who had the guts to stand up to their party’s leaders and say no to this debacle called cap and tax. I applaud them and wish them well, they will need all the support they can muster over the next few months. When the withering heat from the White House, and the Democratic leadership get done with them, they might just switch to the Republican aisle. Maybe then some Republicans will be ashamed of their vote, but I doubt it.
Now our task is clear, the Senate needs to hear from us. After all, they are supposed to work for us, not themselves. They need to respect the wishes of their constituents, and if they don’t, then they need to be replaced. Flood the switchboards, both Republican, and Democrat, telling them they work for us, and we don’t want any new taxes of any kind, and we certainly don’t want our energy bills doubling or tripling. Don’t delay, those who want our energy bills to grow exponenially won’t wait. The time is coming when we won’t have any choices left. If we don’t act now to stem the tide of socialism, we won’t have anyone to blame but ourselves for the future of this great nation. We are at the same crossroad that Germany was in 1933. When they elected Hitler to office, they had no idea what was ahead of them, but once they turned a blind eye to what he was doing, in 1936, the trail they followed was set in stone. Don’t let this great nation go the same route. Make your voices heard at the TEA parties on July 4th. It will be worth every minute of your time.

My guess is that Castle, at least, voted for CnT because he's planning on running for Senate. nt
redstatebluestate123 (Diary) Saturday, June 27th at 9:07AM EST (link)Is that a reason or an excuse?
eburke (Diary) Saturday, June 27th at 9:18AM EST (link)Look, I can actually live with Castle being a pro-choicer ’cause I know it’s tough to get a pro-lifer elected in DE (and being a ‘only when the life of the mother is at stake” pro-lifer, that ain’t easy for me to say).
But are you, or Castle, trying to tell me that Delewarans will only vote for people who embrace nanny-state socialism combined with job-killing legislation?
This legislation is tailor-made for ads that pound on the various ways that it will devestate the average American (picture if you will Harry & Louise ads whre Harry informs Louise that thanks to “Crap & Tax” they can’t sell their house without $30K in energy upgrades). The fact that Castle voted for this steaming pile of manure even after his leader read some of the garbage contained in just the ammendment tells me he’d be absolutely worthless to the Rs in the Senate.
So, I don’t get the policy or politics of this, ‘specially after the economy craters thanks to the policies this Quisling has voted for.
Oh, and btw, to all the “Big-tenters” out there, Mike is just one more of the mythical “Socially-liberal, Fiscally Conservative” wing of the RMSP doofuses who strangely always seem to be both Socially Liberal *and* Fiscally liberal.

There is no excuse, it's just a reason.
redstatebluestate123 (Diary) Saturday, June 27th at 9:30AM EST (link)I would be glad he’s running for senate, but if this is the kind of senator he’ll be it’s a mixed bag I guess.
mixed bag? Looks like a bag of snowe to me...

The good part is that he wouldn't be Biden. nt
redstatebluestate123 (Diary) Saturday, June 27th at 9:44AM EST (link)I want to be able to say that RSBS cause Biden
eburke (Diary) Saturday, June 27th at 10:01AM EST (link)is a douchebag, but as I said in my reply to your Acuri info, these clowns not only aren’t there when we need ‘em, they also then provide cover for Dems in tight spots to cast votes that mask who they are and I’ve had it with that.
I’m not a purity freak but for the love of God if you can’t even gather the stones to vote against a bill that is a socialistic, nanny-state, job-destroying, America-destroying bill like Crap & Tax, I gotta question whether you *are* any better than a D. At least then everyone knows who the enemy of their prosperity is.

To Be Honest
redstatebluestate123 (Diary) Saturday, June 27th at 10:09AM EST (link)As long as he votes for Mitch McConnel for majority leader, I’ll tolerate him.
I used to be there with you RSBS but this vote is just a bridge too far
eburke (Diary) Saturday, June 27th at 11:31AM EST (link)for me.
I’ve voted for all manner of ‘squishes’ because of the first vote they cast every session. But at some point in time (and I am now at that point) I think voting for people like Castle (screw ever donating to the traitor) costs us more in the long run then it helps us.
We tend to look at these things as a zero sum game. My question has become how much do these jacka$$es *cost* us in the way of seats. Take Acuri for example. If 8 dipwads don’t take a powder on this piece of crap, he has to cast a vote that we get to beat him over the head with and possibly replace him with a *real* R. (that’s the short term benefit)
In the long run, I am of the conclusion that by continuing to let some of these weasels get away with voting however the h.e. double hockey sticks they want, we continue to give them what they *really* want which is power. To do so makes me feel like an enabler to an alcholic or an abuser (yeah, I know the analogy limps but votes like this are a massive abuse of our Constitution). We just let ya keep doing it and you never have to feel the consequences.
I have come to the conclusion that when an R strays this far off into the Twilight Zone to vote against something this antithical to the Constitution on this many levels, and to the Party’s ideals, and still reward them with my vote, does nothing but enable them to continue to believe that they can keep pulling this kind of crap and get away with it.
I’m sorry. I can handle voting against ANWR, I can handle being pro-choice as long as you support constructionist judges, I can handle not being there on bad but peripheral items on which I disagree with you, but this is just a bridge too far.

I understand
redstatebluestate123 (Diary) Saturday, June 27th at 11:36AM EST (link)But I think it’s important to remember that in a senate with 51 Republicans, stuff like Cap and Trade is DoA instantly, regardless of how many senators it actually has behind it.
I understand where you're coming from, but I think we're
eburke (Diary) Saturday, June 27th at 12:44PM EST (link)probably going to just have to agree to disagree on this.
Yesterday’s vote sticks in my craw far beyond anything I could ever begin to express (at least in words that are allowed on RS). I have slowly come to the conclusion that we need to stop looking at this as a zero-sum game (i.e. if we vote for Castle that’ll help get us to 51). I have come to the conclusion that as long as we allow Republicans to provide cover for “Blue-Belly” Dems from conservative districts and states, and muddy the waters between the Nanny-state Party and the Freedom Party, we’ll never get within shouting distance of 51 again.
I’m NOT talking about purging the party of people who don’t toe the line the way I want them to on every little aspect of the 3-legged stool. But if you could listen to John Boehner just *shred* this abomination for over an hour (and that was just the ammendment) and still vote for it, then you stand for NOTHING, that our party is supposed to stand for in the area of liberty, freedom from intrusive government, and our Constitution.
Sorry…when you bolt on something *this* big and *this* destructive and provide the margin of victory for the socialists and statists – I’m done.

You do recall that McCain was trumpeting his support
janis (Diary) Saturday, June 27th at 1:35PM EST (link)for cap and trade of some sort before gas went sky-high last year, don’t you? So just having 51 with an “R” behind their name guarantees us nothing. Just like it didn’t guarantee us that they wouldn’t try to ram through the amnesty program in ’07 when we were in the majority. That’s when we were called “bigots”, “racists”, and “ignorant” by our betters. You know our betters–folks like John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Trent Lott, etc. So please don’t try selling me any of that sweet, sweet “just get a majority no matter how you do it!”
It matters.
Republicans were in the majority in 2007? That's news to me. nt
redstatebluestate123 (Diary) Saturday, June 27th at 2:31PM EST (link)Sorry, you're right on that one. Must have
janis (Diary) Saturday, June 27th at 2:54PM EST (link)been thinking that if we beat the illegal immigrant amnesty, then it was our side that defeated it by having a majority. Or maybe I was just trying to forget that we’ve been ruled by the Dems for the last 2 and a half years and that each week gets longer than the one before it.
Running for Senate would explain voting yes
bk (Diary) Saturday, June 27th at 9:53AM EST (link)On the off chance he faces a conservative in the primary, he’d guarantee NRSC support by proving he’s a squish.

Listen, I’d much rather have Castle than Biden. But if my choice is donating to Castle or donating to, say, Rubio, it’s not really going to be much of a question in my mind.
Follow the money; what did they give him for the vote?
Achance (Diary) Saturday, June 27th at 12:52PM EST (link)Any R who thinks that voting with the Ds will even lessen their opposition to him/her in the next election is too stupid to hold office. If this one or any of the others that voted with the Ds didn’t get handsomely paid in this or another bill, they’re stupid enough to be made officially into Democrats.

Absolutely right Achance.

It's a Question in Mine.
JX12 (Diary) Saturday, June 27th at 11:40AM EST (link)RSBS – based on your comments above, I’m having a hard time determining who you’d donate to.
In my mind, Castle voting for Mitch McConnell is a reason NOT to tolerate him. Having McConnell for a majority leader does not inspire confidence in me for reasons upon which others have already elaborated at length here at Redstate. Surely the Republicans can come up with a better candidate for that post when they regain the majority.
As to Castle being better than Biden, that’s not hard to do; but if he’s going to sell us out when it counts, he may as well BE Biden. The end result is the same.
Rubio
redstatebluestate123 (Diary) Saturday, June 27th at 11:44AM EST (link)It doesn’t have to be Mitch McConnel, I just used the name of the current Republican senate leader.
“As to Castle being better than Biden, that’s not hard to do; but if he’s going to sell us out when it counts, he may as well BE Biden. The end result is the same.”
The end result is not the same. If Castle helps swing the Senate back to Republican control, his opportunities to sell us out will be much more limited. Consider how much more Collins, Snowe, and Specter have screwed Republicans in the last 3 years then they did when the Republicans controlled the Senate.
