New Quinnipiac poll shows Christie up by only 4 over Corzine, half of his 8-point lead on September 1.
I’ve been noticing many more negative ads from Corzine the past few weeks, and Christie’s response ads have basically been to the effect of, poor me, this is so unfair! Which, in turn, re-focuses attention on Corzine’s original attacks. Corzine, in other words, has set the tone for the past month. Christie needs to stop with the “poor me” response – he needs to get out there, make huge ad buys refocusing attention on Corzine’s performance and the terrible state of the NJ economy, and what he is going to do to fix the situation. As can be seen in answers to the other questions in the polls, he certainly has a receptive electorate to work with. In short – enough of being on the defensive. And he needs to solidify the anti-Corzine vote, and emphasize that a vote for independent third-party candidate Chris Daggett (at 12% in this poll) as a protest against Corzine is really a vote for Corzine. The best defense is a good offense!
UPDATE: Jim Geraghty touched on the same theme today.
This is very heartening – hopefully they’re calling their friends and family in the States and encouraging them to do likewise!
I just had a conversation with my financial advisor, who has spoken to several traders today. The real reason for the huge rally in the Dow today was that word spread of new internal polls showing McCain down 2 in Pennsylvania, down 2 in Colorado and otherwise doing much better in several swing states than the public polling suggests.
Now, I want to believe this; however, the skeptical side of me is saying that this may be nothing more than a rumor started by a few traders to pump stocks up that they’ll cash in on later in the week.
I have no idea. I just want to throw it out there for public consumption. Either way, we have to fight like hell through next Tuesday……….
Couple this with the report today of a man in Florida getting shot at because of the McCain sign on his lawn, and the report of that guy in Manhattan getting arrested after beating a middle-aged woman with her own McCain sign.
The media was going bonkers over a couple of people yelling things at a McCain rally – we’ll see if they try to cover this up and blame it on “a bad apple.” I think I know the answer.
