because of my recollection of the "From 52 to 48 With Love" stuff running around shortly after the election with pictures of all of the 52 supposedly reaching out to the 48. I don't care about the actual numbers in this context - - it was an observation of the true attitude at the core of the "52".

P.S. - - don't recal a video but rather a series of stills. One version found here:

Got the above link from Mark Hemingway at NRO. Don't know if there are other versions.

approximately 33% indies of which 5 to 8% fall for the hopey changey stuff and then changey every other election. I think the bumper sticker guy was probably more of a 33% true blue variety.

Sort of like the red states versus blue states divide (leading to the title of this site), which was just a random choice by the networks that suddenly became fixed for all time. The weirdness, of course, is that Red, which had been the color associated with Communists for generations, suddenly became the color affixed to the Republican Party. Major irony here, but I digress.

Of course you're correct that the final vote count most closely approximated to 53% vs. 46%. However, earlier on in the cycle, the media had spread the 52 to 48 ratio, and that was fixed into the popular memory, including a video ("52 to 48 with Love" - can't find a link)) that got wide distribution after the election. Like what happened with red and blue states, the Obama and McCain supporters became labeled as 52 and 48.

It's just one of those historical inaccuracies that's taken on a life of its own with its attendent associations.

That video should have been titled "53 to 46."

Regardless, there's nasty people all over.

Here in WSU Cougar Country if I saw a sticker that said "Purple Sucks" I would know they were talking about the Washington Huskies. Also, most of us Mariners fans dislike the Yankees more than the BoSox.
