As if Charlie Crist needed to provide further proof that he is a sellout extraordinaire to all Floridians, regardless of party, he is at it again.  There are some truly bizarre and might we say corrupt going-ons in Florida that includes South Florida Water Management District (Governor Crist appointees all of them), Charlie Crist (the turncoat Governor) and US Sugar (largest Charlie Crist donor).

Allow Lady Libertas to set the stage …

Charlie Crist unveiled a plan back in June 2008 to purchase land from US Sugar to effect an Everglades Restoration Project.  The cost for the original deal was almost $2 Billion dollars; however, projected cost for the acquistion of land AND the restoration was more like $12 Billion (yes, a Big “B”).

On the surface, no one can dispute that the Everglades needs to be protected and that clean water is a commodity in Florida but as negotiations proceeded, the mounting price tag for the state of Florida and the obvious bias towards Big Sugar became more and more apparent.  From the New York Times:

Negotiations favored United States Sugar from the start, when the state accepted two outside firms’ appraisals of the company’s land that used figures from the height of the real estate market, according to documents.

When a “fairness opinion” commissioned by the state found that those appraisals had overvalued the land by $400 million, Florida officials orchestrated a public relations campaign to discredit the findings, internal e-mail showed. Appraisers from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, which was required to sign off on the deal, were also cut out of the process after raising concerns, e-mail messages showed.

When it came time to decide which land to buy, state officials acknowledged that United States Sugar was, as one official put it during an interview, “pretty much in the driver’s seat.” The water district overseeing the restoration will end up with six large disconnected parcels under the current deal, including all of United States Sugar’s citrus groves.

State officials acknowledged that some of that land, which has been ravaged by canker, a plant disease, is useless for restoration.

Lady Libertas should also point out that there are currently more than 10 projects over 10 years that have been in process for Restoration which have been put on hold so Charlie Crist can bail out his buddies at US Sugar.  One of the projects that has now been placed on hold is a massive reservoir in western Palm Beach County which was critical to Everglades Restoration and clean water projects.  As well, the $1.3 Billion that has already been directed to the previous Restoration projects could be all down the drain as Charlie Crist jockeys to get US Sugar money for their land.

South Florida Water Management District and Crist have scaled down their proposed bailout for US Sugar; the original deal proposed paying $1.75 billion to buy more than 180,000 acres, along with all of U.S. Sugar’s mills, rail lines and other facilities was the original proposal in 2008.  (Sun Sentinel 8/11/2010)  The new proposal is for $197 million for 26,800 acres and is approximately version number four.

At the July 14 meeting, the chairman of South Florida Water Management District admitted that they have no idea how they will pay for this deal.  It appeared the only way for any of this would be to raise taxes on already overburdened Florida taxpayer base.  Unless the South Florida Water Management District takes the money from somewhere else … like the emergency hurricane fund and this is exactly what they intend to do to push this deal through.

South Florida Water Management District will take $197 Million from the emergency hurricane fund – the fund that is used to provide hurricane relief in the event of a disaster.  Utilization of this fund while entering the height of the hurricane season in South Florida seems irresponsible at best & corrupt at worst but also begs the question:  What is the big hurry?

This deal will cost the Florida taxpayers money for the purchase, money to attempt to restore disjointed land parcels that are diseased, AND the state of Florida will actually lose $61 million in property taxes for the year if the bailout goes through.  Add to that the loss of an emergency hurricane fund.  What is Charlie Crist thinking?  Surely he is not thinking about what is best for Floridians or the Everglades.

Keep in mind, as well, the deal as negotiated by US Sugar and Charlie Crist’s appointees on the South Florida Water Management District will pay US Sugar 2006 prices for the land – prices that reflect the high end of the real estate bubble.  How convenient that US Sugar makes out awfully sweet in this deal since they are also Charlie Crist’s largest contributor to his campaigns.  Governor Crist is currently running as an Independent for US Senate against Kendrick Meeks (D) and Marco Rubio (R) and he needs all the backers and donors that he can get.

Leading the charge against Charlie Crist’s bailout of US Sugar is a coalition of Floridians and patriot groups (see the website at www.endcharliesbailout.com).  Representatives of the coalition showed up today to the South Florida Water Management District board meeting to protest the bailout and air their concerns.  They were met with closed doors and entrance to the meeting was denied to the taxpayers and the media.  South Florida Water Management District and US Sugar cited attorney/client privilege in keeping the dealings behind closed doors at the meeting today – privilege that is apparently not being afforded to Florida taxpayers or to the media.  Marianne Moran from Tea Party in Action made this comment today after the meeting:

“This new version of the bailout is worse!   All of our emergency reserve funds should be used for real emergencies like flooding and hurricanes.  Bailing out the U.S. Sugar Corporation who is Charlie Crist’s top political donor, is NOT an emergency.  A vote for this deal will put all Floridans at risk when there is a REAL emergency.  We must end the bailout now.”

Representatives from the Miccosukee Tribe were also present outside the meeting and immediately after the closed door meeting, the Miccosukee Tribe filed an emergency motion in federal court in Miami, asking a judge to stop the South Florida Water Management District from voting Thursday on the new plan to spend $197 million on 28,000 acres of U.S. Sugar land.  Lady Libertas has contacted the Tribe for comment.  Just released from the Sun Sentinel:

The Miccosukee’s court filing argues that new version of the deal shows that the district has “elected to abandon” the reservoir project, despite Moreno’s ruling in March calling for the district to resume work on the reservoir.

The Miccosukee argue that abandoning the reservoir and other long-planned Everglades projects in favor of “pie-in-the sky scenarios for Everglades restoration will result in the destruction of the Everglades and the Tribe’s land in the interim.”

Many have asked about the news that there may be “infiltrators” at tea parties around the nation.  A website (crashtheteaparty.org) was recently set up.  The creator, though he tried to hide his identity, has been outed; his name is Jason Levin, and he’s a middle school teacher in Beaverton, Oregon.  He’s on record saying that you might see some of his team in Nazi uniforms at your local tea party pretending to be racists and other offensive characters.  Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy doesn’t it?  And one has to ask the question; if tea partiers are racist, anti-Semitic homophobes, and it’s so obvious, why does he need to plant people who pretend to be those things at your tea parties?  Ah…leftist logic and tactics…there is no way to understand their twisted thoughts.  But you do need to know what the left is up to.

And by the way, if you’d like to let Mr. Levin’s school district know what you think of his behavior, and his potential influence on public school students in Beaverton, Oregon, you can contact them here. And you can reach the Principal at his school, Mr. Zan Hess, at this number: (503) 524-1345. If you choose to contact them, in direct contrast to Mr. Levin’s behavior, please be polite. Remember, just because he’s exposed himself publicly as a vile, indecent human being who will stoop to Nazi symbolism, and the promotion of racism and bigotry to silence those with whom he disagrees, doesn’t mean everyone in the school district is bad.

In any event, we know that infiltrators might be coming to our tea parties.  But remember last April 15th; the idea that the tea parties would be infiltrated in the same way was all over the news.  The results?  Virtually no infiltration.  We know they might be coming, and they know we know.  And they know we are ready.  So if you’re a couple of guys who enjoy wearing Nazi uniforms or holding racist signs, are you really likely to show up…just a couple of you, all alone, at a well organized tea party of 1,000-20,000 people who disagree with you?  I haven’t seen many leftists with that much spine.They prefer to hide in the shadows and lurk, like sleazy predators, or secret molesters.  They don’t want to be identified.  And we ARE ready to identify them.  Do they really want their ugly mugs pasted all over the internet holding racist signs?  Hmmm…they might find it funny to think about and even to threaten, but it’s probably not a good career move, and most will chicken out before they ever get started.

So here are some tips for dealing with this situation, should it arise at your tea party.

1.  Be prepared.  Make sure your security team knows about the potential for disturbance, and your procedures for dealing with any issues.  If you have law enforcement at your event, let them know about the potential threats in advance.  Most are happy to remove people who intend to disturb your event.

a.  Have a plan.  We suggest that you handle every incident in a predetermined manner.  Your preparation will allow you to handle any incident in a calm and reasoned manner.
i.  No aggressive confrontation.  Make sure all of your people know that they are in the media spotlight.  Our behavior will be watched.  So if you encounter these miscreants, be polite, and ask them to leave your event.  If you have police there, ask them to help you.
ii.  Video, video, video.  Make sure you have teams of people with Flip cams or other easy format video, and make sure every single encounter of this nature is captured on videotape.  Create the record.  We’ll use it later to publicly humiliate the bad actors, and also to allow you to prove your version of the incidents if challenged.
iii. Partner up.  If you are going to deal with one of these situations, always have at least one other person with you.  It’s imperative that any situation not be your word against someone else’s.  Have a witness and a helper with you at all times.
iv.  Make signs that say “Infiltrator.  This person is not with us.”  Put a big arrow on it so that you can stand next to infiltrators and point at them.  Usually this will embarrass them, ruin their prank, and they will leave.  Plus it’s just plain fun and makes for great photos and video.  Again…always with good humor, and a cheerful demeanor.  It’s fun to mock the lefties, and it makes them truly crazy when you are nice.

b.  Talk about the issue of behavior and signs at the beginning of your event.  Set the guidelines from stage.
i.  No signs or behavior evidencing bigotry or racism of any kind will be tolerated, and people will be asked to get rid of them or leave.
ii. We are polite, law abiding people, and that’s how we run our events.
iii.  Ask attendees to immediately report any suspicious people to event security or the police (according to your own guidelines).

c.  Don’t worry…be happy.  If you weren’t so good at what you are doing, and so successful at influencing the debate in this country, people wouldn’t feel compelled to try to shoot you down using sleazy tactics.  You are dominating the political playing field, and doing so by being honest, operating with integrity and staying within the law.  Be proud of what you are accomplishing, and enjoy your day.

Liz Carter for Congress receives a resounding Lady Libertas Endorsement as THE Conservative Candidate for Georgia District 4.

Allow me to share some of our chat…

Liz Carter is your ordinary, every day Super Woman.  She comes to her campaign with 20 years of business experience, is married to the love of her life, is stepMom to two boys and has thrown her hat into the ring for Georgia District Four.  Liz is a student and lover of history and the daughter of a World War 2 veteran who was a B17 Bombardier.

Her decision to run for Congress came on the road traveling to the Smart Girl Politics Summit last September.  She explains that she and Cheryl were driving and the story was playing on the radio about Rep. Hank Johnson claiming people who disagreed with President Obama were going to be putting on “white hoods and white uniforms again and riding through the countryside”.  Liz was so outraged, she turned to Cheryl and said: “That’s it – I’m running”.

Who said there was no benefit to Johnson’s insane comment?  It was how Liz began her journey as a candidate.  She met Michelle Malkin at the Smart Girl Politics Summit and Cheryl introduced her for the first time as a Congressional candidate.  Word spread fairly quickly and she received a call from Fox News the day before Thanksgiving telling her that they were doing a story on how Sarah Palin has inspired more women to run for office and would Liz give them an interview.  A great start to the campaign and a bit of a surprise to some family members who called Liz when she appeared in the interview on Fox News‘ front page.  “It has been non-stop running since then!” Liz says.

Liz’s focus has been on meeting the people of District 4 which includes parts of Dekalb, Rockdale and Gwinnett counties outside of Atlanta.

I am having the time of my life. I have never had so much fun just sitting down and talking to people.  There is so much to learn but I don’t want my learning curve to include not knowing about my district.

We have had a problem in our district with corruption in the counties and with leaders.  There is no community outreadch except during campaign season.  Part of Gwinnett County did not even know who their Rep was or that they had one!  My biggest challenge to date has been reaching out to that sleeper population who have given up or have always voted Democrat.  I want to get them involved and informed and awake!

Due to frustration, District Four has become a swing district.  We need to stand up and take back this seat.  If we can just get out there and get people to the polls, we can win.

I may be in Hank Johnson’s rear view mirror now but come November, he will be in mine!”

Liz’s passion is infectious.  Her passion is not just for District Four in Georgia – it for the entire country and the Constitution and history.

Every seat counts.  People can’t just think about their districts anymore.  My own little part is no longer good enough.  The dynamic has switched.  Lead me to my Constitution – it is no longer being upheld.

I love history and I don’t understand why they are trying to rewrite history.  History is where we come from.  It is about knowledge and inspiration, not political correctness.  They have forgotten how we have gotten here.  I have never seen such foolishness from leaders.

It has been awful to feel we have no representation – no place at the table – no chance to say stop and let’s do this right.  Our leaders have been busy show boating when they need to bring people together.

We do not need fundamental change.

We need empowerment.  Government’s role is to create the infrastructure for success in the private sector.

In Liz’s opinion, healthcare was a primary example of how the people are not being represented.  She disagrees strongly with the “tough, you are going to take it and like it” stance that has been taken.

Healthcare is Enron on a federal level.  They have reported false earnings and it is devastation created for millions.  This is the same Congress that went after Enron and now they are using the same tactics in legislation.

I read the House bill and I read the Senate bill.  I broke it down and we said to Hank Johnson – Don’t do it – Don’t vote for it.

You can’t run a country down into the ground like they have done.  We’re going to fix it.

As a small business owner, Liz understands what it takes to make small businesses successful.  Her frustration with the direction of Congress and the federal government was apparent on many of the issues.  She is one of new breed of candidates that carry common sense as their banner – the issues and problems are apparent to Liz and she is determined to get to DC and change how the goverment is handling some of the most pressing issues for Americans today.

We need to get rid of these attorneys that do not understand small business and corporate America.

Selling treasury bonds is not revenue.  Without revenue coming in, we are in trouble.

It is our kids and their children who will be indentured servants to whomever they have bankrupted us to.  The next generation shouldn’t pay for us – That to me is immoral.  I say to people like Pelosi and Reid: We are destroying any kind of prosperity or opportunity for our kids.

As the daughter of a World War 2 veteran, Liz has a strong stance on the military and national security.  It is no surprise that her greatest influence from history is President Eisenhower.

President Eisenhower was, in my heart, the true leader on Civil Rights and ended segregation.  He was the inspiration for building a super highway in America and creating an infrastructure.  He was a free market and business guy.  He also warned us as he was leaving office about the dangers of prolonged military engagement.

As a cold war kid, Liz believes the threat is real from Russia and that Putin is not our ally.  She disagrees with lowering our nuclear stores at this time.  As well, Liz questions our global debt and the negative impact that it will have on funding our military in the years to come.  Liz also takes issue with how our  Veterans and military are treated.

They spend more time giving rights to terrorists than honoring our military.

We send our men and women to serve and then place restraints to play nice in the sandbox.  We penalize them for bringing in terrorists by taking the complaints of terrorists seriously and penalizing our boys for a bloody nose.

The problem is that our political leaders are the ones who declare war – not the military leaders.  Then we send in our military to clean up the mess created by our political leaders.

Obama asked the General what he needed and it should have been given.  Obama ran on getting our troops out of Iraq and now we are not only still there but new American troops are needed because Iraq’s military is not trained well enough to BE a military force without our presence.

The Democratic leaders then want to quadruple question our military leaders on how they can effectively win.

Liz may be a student of history but she sees the future as well.  Her campaign recently unveiled their IPhone App at a Young Republicans meeting.  The IPhone App gives information on Liz’s campaign with updates on  news, events, photos, videos.  It also allows supporters to volunteer, contribute, and share information with their own friends and followers using Twitter and Facebook.  Liz plans on expanding to other smartphone platforms, all in an effort to use technology to create “true transparency” and reach out to the younger voting block.  She also has plans to maintain these platforms when she is in office to inform people about legislation and votes and to get feedback via polls and surveys.  When asked about her experience with the Young Republicans, Liz said:

It has been fabulous!  I have never felt so welcomed.  As we go into the General Election, they will be a force to be reckoned with.  They are an army Democrats cannot stop.

Lady Libertas could have spent several more hours happily chatting with Liz but she needed to get back to the business of taking back the seat of District Four.  Liz Carter for Congress is a force to be reckoned with as well.  Her intelligence, love of our country and common sense attitude are precisely what the people of America need right now in Congress.  Her only weakness?  Mint chocolate chip ice cream.  That is a weakness we can all live with, I am sure.

Liz Carter is looking ahead to the upcoming months.  The next two big issues in her opinion are Amnesty for illegal immigrants and the threat to Social Security.  Liz’s closing words:

Readers of Lady Libertas will remember me mentioning Brian Reilly last summer when I met him at the Tea Party Rally in Fort Lauderdale on July 4. ( See original post here )

Lady Libertas was impressed with Brian last summer and, certainly now, we need a GREAT Conservative & national grassroots support  to beat Debbie Wasserman-Schultz-the-Pelosi-Clone and the Democratic war chest that she will have access to!

Eric Massa is the US House of Rep Congressman from NY-29 who announced his resignation last week due to a House Ethics Probe about misbehavior during a wedding and inappropriate comments.  Massa apparently has decided to take out the Democratic Leadership on his way out the door. He claims he is being ousted due to his NO vote on health care.

To clarify, Massa is indeed a NO vote on healthcare but he is voting NO because he is a Single Payer advocate – so he wants MORE government involvement in health care.  Now on to the good stuff.

Massa set the tone for the interview at the outset:

“I will not go quietly into the evening,

I was set up for this from the very, very beginning. If you think that somehow they didn’t come after me to get rid of me because my vote is the deciding vote in the health care bill, then ladies and gentlemen you live today in a world that is so innocent as is not to understand what is going on in Washington, D.C.”

Eric Massa continues on his rampage – Allow Lady Libertas to walk you through some of the juicier bits of the interview:

“Rahm Emanuel is son of the devil’s spawn. He is an individual who would sell his mother to get a vote. He would strap his children to the front end of a steam locomotive.”

Now, Lady Libertas cannot disagree with that one.  Nope – not one bit.  Apparently, Massa speaks from experience as he recounts an experience with Rahm (the mouthpiece of Obama!?):

“When I voted against the cap and trade bill, the phone rang and it was the chief of staff to the president of the United States of America, Rahm Emanuel, and he started swearing at me in terms and words that I hadn’t heard since that crossing the line ceremony on the USS New Jersey in 1983,” Massa said. “And I gave it right back to him, in terms and words that I know are physically impossible.”

Massa does not stop there.  He goes on to call Rep. Steny Hoyer a LIAR. This is better than the ridiculous Academy Awards any day. From Fox News:

And he said the accounting provided by Hoyer and his staff is a fabrication.

Hoyer’s office claims the majority leader’s staff was notified the week of Feb. 8 about the allegations, that Hoyer was “immediately informed” and that he told his staff that Massa should refer the matter to the Ethics Committee within 48 hours, or he would do so himself. According to Hoyer’s office, Hoyer learned “within 48 hours” from the ethics committee staff and Massa’s staff that the Ethics Committee had been contacted.

“Steny Hoyer has never said a single word to me at all, not ever, not once,” Massa said on Sunday.

“Not a word. This is a lie. It’s a blatant false statement. And that’s what triggered me to understand what in fact is going on.”

Then, in a shameless maneuver, Massa appeals to the American people to stop his resignation:

“I’m not going to be a Congressman as of 5 o’clock [Monday] afternoon. The only way to stop that is for me to rescind my resignation. That’s the only way to stop it. And the only way that’s going to happen is if this becomes a national story.”

and he tells another caller:

“I can’t call Fox News. You guys gotta call Fox News. I can’t do it. … Here’s why. I’m in the center of this storm, so obviously I’m not objective.”

WOW!  Devil’s Spawn, Cursing from the Obama Administration, Lies from Congressional Leader’s and all wrapped up in an Ethics investigation or PLOT to hear Massa tell it.  Considering that Massa has inappropriate behavior on New Year’s – the House Ethics Committee did move pretty fast, especially if you compare the Rangel ethics investigation and the several others still outstanding.
