asking if we are registered voters, they have been at my son’s high school registering Seniors who have turned, or are turning 18. The Unions have been out canvassing at local shopping malls. Where are the Conservatives? Some local churches here have some small GOTV initiatives going, but it’s not much. My local Republican party did a short, lukewarm GOTV email to it’s members, but that’s like preaching to the choir.

We CANNOT sit on our behinds, looking at polls, and figuring we have November in the bag. We have to get out to vote, we have to get out and convince friends and family to vote for the conservative, the Republican, we have to organize and get out there, and sign people up. We can turn many of these people as easily as OFA is turning them. We can’t rely on “expectations” to win.

I have friends on both sides of the aisle, and right now, they are gleefully rubbing their hands, expecting Republicans to stay home, figuring the election is in the bag. I fear that is what is going to happen.

I would gladly be a part of an organized GOTV movement, I will actively go out and help register voters….I am sure there are others like me, but we need some leadership on this.

Truly it is a mystery as to why the Republican Party is not addressing people in the church basements, knocking on the doors, visiting the retirement communities, to spread the truth and to start people thinking about conservative priciples.

Are they afraid? Of what? Being accused of stinginess toward the poor, unfairness toward immigrants and non-white races, and every other cliche from the Left?

If those things are false cliches, then why are professional Republicans not addressing them directly to expose the lies?

Below is an example of what some of us here in Arizona are pushing. One of the local Tea Party activists, who happens to live in Janet Contreras’s district, has organized her own GOTV effort for Janet. The Dem incumbent is Ed Pastor. The district leans heavily Dem. But, Pastor is a long-time incumbent and Janet, of “The Letter” fame from Glenn Beck’s radio and TV programs, is a brand new, “non-professional politician” candidate that at least offers the voters a real choice, as she is unabashedly conservative. At any rate, here’s the tea partier’s exhortation to her fellow tea party activists to “do something” (I especially liked her “help us make Pastor pee in his Depends diapers” comment):

I’ll be learning about the Republican Party’s GOTV project, called “Victory Plan,” tonight at my county GOP Executive Guidance Committee meeting. I’ve already contacted my Legislative District chairman and other officers to see if THEY have a GOTV plan. It didn’t have one in 2008, but then, “favorite son” John McCain was running for president and, because of Sarah Palin, Republican turnout was north of 77 per cent.

Bottom line: we all, individually, have the ability to contact the campaigns of “our” candidates and help them get out the vote. If your candidates are running in districts where they are going to win easily, then seek out and contact the campaigns of other candidates and make GOTV phone calls. Almost all congressional candidates are now set up to allow volunteers from other districts and other states to make calls using internet phone banking systems. I’ve used several. A good resource is www.40seats.com. More here.

We all have the ability to contact our local GOP and ask them about their GOTV plan, if any.

Maybe we can rely on Twitter and Facebook and web sites. I hear an awful lot about how that’s the best way to reach the “youth.” But, as I look through my precinct walking sheets, and look at the ages of the voters who did not vote in the 2008 general election, there’s a lot of registered Republicans and independents who fall into the “youth” category. And I think a knock on their door might help get them to the polls this time. A lot.

Since you asked above, the LA GOP has registered 10,000 new republicans in LA county this season (Since the primary in June)

I know I came close to pooh-poohing your concerns in Vegas, but I too have been saying all along that we cannot relax just because the polls show us ahead.

The OFA activity you cite has shown up in my own race here in CD 20 (CA) where OFA has been organizing precinct walks all over the countryside… to come into our district and walk for Adam Schiff (our opponent and the incumbent) – to me that is actually encouraging: they have to bus in people from other districts to walk where a ‘blue dog’ is threatened by a real R candidate.

Don’t lose heart LadyImpact – instead do what you need to do to gear up the determination and activism on our side!
