Politico is running a story that seems to be a taunt to the Right…or reassurance to the Dems.
At first blush, the spasms of anger over the health care law signed into law by President Barack Obama this week seem strong enough to fuel a years-long argument over government power.
Or not.
History suggests there is a better chance the passions over the country’s new health care regime will cool with an alacrity that seems unthinkable amid the clenched fists and snarling insults of the recent debate.
That’s the gist but you can read the rest if you’d like.
Now, there are two ways to look at this piece.
- It could be a just a taunt to the Right, as in: ‘You ain’t got the stomach for a long fight….you’ll go back to watching your NASCAR races soon and we’ll have our way with you.’ OR…
- Politico could be writing the piece to send a reassuring message to Dems who are a bit freaked that they’re still caught in the middle of the opium-enriched journey to Oz and wishing like h**l they never got caught up in that tornado called ObamaCare.
Either way, it doesn’t really matter.
November’s only seven months away.

LOL!

The thing is, Obama is too 'in your face' for this to happen.
avgjo (Diary) Saturday, March 27th at 4:02AM EST (link)I mean, the jerk is out there daring Republicans to repeal his baby. And he’s trying to sell it to everyone. And it ain’t workin.
Our best resource for beating Obama and the Obama agenda is Obama.
I once read that Obama fancied himself a card player. He must suck. I see this ‘I dare you to repeal’ thing as a bluff. So obvious. And we’re gonna call it.

Vassar Bushmills (Diary) Saturday, March 27th at 7:31AM EST (link)History indeed does show…not complacency, but resignation…does set in, and that is part of the plan.
But right now, they are trying to bolster the backbones of the Dems. They are trying to convince them that they didn’t do anything wrong, actually making them turn even more inward and insular.
It’s part of a plan, which, i believe we can do something about….if we can get only a few Members to join in.
Passions could potentially cool BUT....

redneck_hippie (Diary) Saturday, March 27th at 12:49PM EST (link)The, redneck, I see many opportunities for black marketeers.
janis (Diary) Saturday, March 27th at 1:08PM EST (link)I will be curious to see how the VAT is structured. If it applies to everything including groceries and meds, then they will be angering and penalizing every single person in the country, union and non-union and Dems, true believers and the rest of us. And then they will have truly screwed up. Gas going up, groceries going up, meds and medical care becoming more expensive, the housing market in the worst shape since they’ve been keeping records…..
All they need to do now is add another huge and all-inclusive new tax and the passions will become redhot and ever present.
What do you want to bet Center for American Progress
redneck_hippie (Diary) Saturday, March 27th at 1:38PM EST (link)has something all ready for The One to pull the trigger. The only question in my mind is how soon he will have to initiate it. As we know from Senator Dingell, it will require a lot of time to get all the administrative steps in place.
From the Atlantic:
“Meanwhile, every moderate and left of moderate tax expert I’ve spoken to or heard speak recently, from Brookings scholars to Center for American Progress President John Podesta, have been enthusiastic about a VAT.”

Obama’s deficit reduction commission will meet after the mid-term elections. What do you suppose the Obama Deficit commision will propose?

Oh, I know they'll do it, or attempt to.
janis (Diary) Saturday, March 27th at 1:53PM EST (link)What I would like to see are the exact proposals. Does this apply to only new items, or would it also apply to used ones, too. If it applies to new items, then there will be a huge market in consigned goods or used cars. If it applies across the board, then there will never be enough IRS agents or other enforcement types to stop the huge black market in goods that will arise.
In imposing their taxes and sundry sordid programs upon us, they will make America a nation of outlaws.
Good luck with seeing exact anything.
redneck_hippie (Diary) Saturday, March 27th at 2:25PM EST (link)Nancy will just tell us they need to vote for the bill so we can see what is in it. We’ll be told there is just minor tweaks to the tax code, and before we know what hit us, it’ll be full-bore 17% on all goods and services. If they don’t hesitate to tax pacemakers, I don’t see them stopping at anything.
Obama Jumped the Shark
Scope (Diary) Saturday, March 27th at 10:56AM EST (link)but he didn’t drown. That was the title of an article I saw somewhere. It pointed out that Obama, being the narcissist that he is, because he didn’t drown with Obamacare, he will only become even more delusional with himself, and his plans to transform America. He and his Progressives could care less if they lose Democrat seats in November, those dang Democrats will toe the line. I don’t know what’s on his agenda next, but, I’m hearing that immigration must happen this year in order to insure Democrat votes in November. He promised the Congressional Hispanic caucus that it will happen soon, in order to keep their votes on healthcare. Sure, among the voters, passions may wane concerning Obamacare, if he stops talking about it. But, once again they will be ignited, just as passionately, against amnesty. The guy can’t help himself. He Won. And, he himself will keep Obamacare on the front burner, he is still trying to sell it to the 65% of the population that want no parts of it. I don’t think that passions will die down. I think he will incite those passions to a boiling point.
Perhaps a more apt analogy is...
LaborUnionReport (Diary) Saturday, March 27th at 12:04PM EST (link)Obama put a bunch of cats in a burlap bag and shook ‘em up.
In November, we’ll see if those cats are still p.o.’d.

Given that we're still in the bag and he's still shaking us,
janis (Diary) Saturday, March 27th at 12:12PM EST (link)I think we’ll still be pissed off come November. ObamaCare was just the first huge insult to our system, Amnesty and others to follow. He won’t let us have a chance to simmer down, he’ll keep us boiling.
And aside from the actions themselves, the results of those actions are already taking effect and they aren’t good. Caterpillar, AT&T, 3M– all are looking at taking massive losses because of ObamaCare. That will result in real losses to real people, not some theoretical number in the future. This stuff is hurting folks right this minute.
Add to the shake.

Often, passions fade
texasgalt (Diary) Saturday, March 27th at 11:33AM EST (link)but rarely in matters of life and death. Not to mention the cramdown was done against the wishes of a significant majority of the people.
..and senior citizens definitely won't forget.

Which is on the big incentives for the Dems
janis (Diary) Saturday, March 27th at 12:27PM EST (link)to do all they can to just get rid of them. They incur most of the health care costs as they age and they vote. More of them vote R than D, which is a swell reason from their viewpoint for the Dems to deny them all the medical treatment they need.
No one likes broken promises
6eorge Jetson (Diary) Saturday, March 27th at 12:24PM EST (link)We have already “written” (promised) tens of trillions of future checks (entitlements) that can’t be cashed. And Obama just wrote another $2.5 trillion, hastening the day of reckoning.
Further, ZeroCare does nothing to address the all-you-can-eat health care incentives. If it gets approved, spend away, because it’s not coming out of your pocket.
Be steadfast. The Dems now own the broken promises. While there will undoubtedly be short term ups and downs, we know where these promises will end up in the long run.
American leadership can either engage the people to navigate the landscape of broken promises by incentivizing the individual to consume fewer entitlements (e.g. higher deductibles), or it can make the hard decisions sitting alone in a faraway office.
There are other dangers, but.....
jazzycmk (Diary) Saturday, March 27th at 12:09PM EST (link)also potentially offsetting impacts.
On the risk side:
1. With little of Obamacare taking effect this year, except some of the “feel good” provisions, Dems can hammer that the sky is not falling, and that all the doom and gloom was manufactured.
2. The economy will likely continue to modestly improve. We will probably see some small employment gains in months to come (although I think those will be severely tempered by companies that hold back while they evaluate what Obamacare will do to them). Obama and MSM will trumpet from the mountaintops about the success of his economic agenda.
However:
1. Regarding health care, Dems will have little to show this year in the way of tangible progress except for the talking points they’ve had all year. Meanwhile, we will continue to see a slow trickle of reports unconvering various hidden stories about the bill (understated costs, unreported provisions, etc.). Just this week we found that children were NOT fully protected from pre-existing conditions clauses, despite Obama using it as one of his main talking point, That’s a big oversight. Wonder how many little ones there are.
2. We are not out of the economic woods yet. While employment numbers might slightly improve, the unemployment rate is not going to go down much from its 9.7% rate. Bond ratings companies are whispering about lowering the US bond rating because of the ocean of red ink on our books (talk about something unprecedented).
3. Buoyed by ramming this through, I wouldn’t expect Dems to sit still for long. They will evaluate for the next couple of weeks and see what pollls say (although consensus seems to be that while Dems were re-energized by health care passage, huge majorities of Republicans and solid majorities of independents are still against it). They know November is coming and if they want to ram something else through, they are running out of time. I’m not a betting man, but I think they will try something we’re not focused on right now, where the battle lines are not clear. Won’t be cap & trade. That’s a loser for them. Won’t be immigration. That’s a bigger loser for them. Further financial reform could be a candidate. They can have success with demonizing financial institutions to build support.

Don't you be fooled, this is not rage, it's outrage
jdw4america (Diary) Saturday, March 27th at 3:16PM EST (link)There is a world of difference btwn the two and the propaganda machine knows it. Their moronic leaders have done the unthinkable and run roughshod over the people who gave them their current jobs and pay their enormous salaries.
In their hubris, they crowed to one another and celebrated.
They never really thought the people would object and speak out as we have done. After all, they believe their own propaganda. The people will obviously be grateful for the um…fornicating… they’re gonna get, because they like the free balloons.
They are still living in the heyday of the propaganda machine, when cronkite was “the most trusted man in america.” The people have Fox now. The people have talk radio now. The people have access to the open – for now – idea exchange online.
The one thing that terrifies tyrants is – and I know I’ve said it before – THE PEOPLE KNOW.
Between now and november 2nd (220 days, I think) we have the ability to do what we could not do before. They are not filibuster proof. We can keep them on the defensive. Even if the social-democrats think the people will forget, we won’t let them.
Of course, we’ll be helped by the fact that barry won’t shut up and like most lefties, he won’t be able to conceal his contempt of those who dare to disagree with his obviously profound “superiority.” All 62% of us.
Besides, they outrage is not about an entitlement program from misguided social-democrats. It’s not. It’s about how they have declared themselves immune to dissent and above the Constitution. They have, over the deafening appeals of the people, redefined the nature of our country, preferring to sweep away over 200 years of American identity, rendering us what we were when George III was on the throne – subjects of the government.
THE PEOPLE KNOW. We know what they’ve done and we are not the silent majority anymore. We have taken to the streets to speak the truth and we will not be silenced. Let them fabricate stories of racism or sexism or violence – they are going down. We are taking our country back.
And if any of you is thinking that the goodies get distributed before the bill comes, it ain’t gonna happen. Look at how fast they run form the truth of the newly endowed police powers of the IRS – they practically wet their pants at the mention. And there are 2700 pages of this monstrosity! We could introduce an obamination of the week and still be going strong in 1013!
Besides, the first enema is due in September when the first Medicare cuts hit. They can defend them or they can postpone them, but they can only postpone them if the Republicans let them.
I don’t see that happening. It’s not only the left that’s sweating over november. They wouldn’t want to face a primary challenge.
And let’s not forget, we have got a good shot with the Supremes. By the way, has anyone heard if they’re exempted? If not, I don’t imagine they’d be eager to take one up the …shall we say exit ramp? for the team
