Time to Shut the Door on the Cable Guy…

A fleeting thought this morning:  Since Comcast is buying NBC, perhaps the peacock will regain some of its journalistic integrity.

Then, while posting on the faux jobs summit attendees, this flashed across the screen:

The chairman of Comcast endorsed the Senate health care bill in a letter Thursday to President Barack Obama, saying, “We cannot allow perfection to stand in the way of critically needed and very good legislation.”

“While there has been much controversy and debate over hundreds of provisions and alternatives, it is my view that the current legislation pending in the Senate provides a workable framework for this country to take an important step toward enhancing health care accessibility, promoting operational efficiencies and technological innovation, and reducing the cost of health care and the federal deficit,” CEO and Chairman Brian Roberts wrote.

Roberts said he intended to make his statement in person Thursday at the White House jobs summit but could not make it because of his company’s $30 billion merger announcement with NBC Universal.

Roberts’ letter ends with the promise: “Comcast ready to assist you and this nation in the effort to enact sensible health reform.”

Somewhere there’s an angle to be had…favorable FCC or DOJ treatment?

Maybe not, but Roberts never appeared to be in the bag for Obama either.

Gotta go now.  Doing DISHes…Satellite that is.

The large corporations

will do all they can to pass the buck on healthcare costs. They would rather have the government worry about it so they can shrug their shoulders and say “Not my problem man”.

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

It's scary when a media giant explicitly promises to support the Administration

civil truth (Diary) Friday, December 4th at 12:28AM EST (link)

…that would go for any Administration. When the free press makes it their goal to endorse and promote the government’s policies – we’re into Pravda territory – or outright prostitution and betrayal of the historical legacy of 400 years of the Press carving out independence from government control.

I wonder what today’s version of 30 pieces of silver they expect to receive as payment.

Ralph (Brian’s father) would never have done this, I’m confident – he was from the Greatest Generation (as was my dad).

But folks like Brian – and too many other Americans – take our freedoms for granted and are blithely selling our birthright for poisoned porridge. And they’ll never take responsibility for their sins.

The greatest evil…is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried, and minuted) in clean, carpeted, warmed, and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voice. Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the offices of a thoroughly nasty business concern. -C.S. Lewis

GE Wouldn't Have Agreed To This Deal If Comcast Wasn't Going To Do Obama's Bidding

IJB Friday, December 4th at 1:25AM EST (link)

GE and Obama are in each others’ backpocket. So too is Comcast now.

A lot of these big corporations are going to have to be taken down if the GOP is remotely serious about taking this country back – personally, I’d advocate using anti-trust to do it…

We'll have to use anti-monopoly laws

Beaglescout (Diary) Friday, December 4th at 8:52PM EST (link)

If any can be found. The anti-trust laws are simply there to punish successful companies and replace them with government favored companies… monopolies in a word… so the politicians can get their palms greased more regular-like.
