Doesn’t seem too good to me.
Consider the following; On top of their powerful special interest groups, and the aid of the mainstream media and academia and the celebrities the Democrats will soon be able to add more to their arsenal.
This huge slush fund will give billions to Acorn to fund political machine politics in amounts that can never be matched by the Republican party.
They will be in charge of redistricting in two years
They will put laws in place that will make many if not most workplaces union.
They will amnesty millions of illegal aliens who will vote in even higher numbers than now for democrats on account of the new giveaway money they will have.
I see Texas and Florida going democrat within two or three years, after that it wont much matter what happens because with California, New York, Texas and Florida sewed up all they need is a handful of other states.
Of course there is always the possibility that their idiotic activities will result in an economic collapse and stagflation, in fact it is probable. But that is no guarantee that the Republican party can come back. Remember they can blame Bush for a real long time. FDR stretched out the great depression for ten years and only grew more popular.
Even if we do get a Republican president or two, no way they get congress back, so no real reform is possible.
Hate to be so negative, but I like to be realistic. The failure of the Republican party not to reform the nation when they had the chance can now be seen for the criminal negligence it really was.
Look at western Europe, that is our future. And a sad one indeed it is, because there is no place left on earth that people can go for personal and economic freedom.

Given the current rate of decent in public opinion...
rbdwiggins (Diary) Thursday, February 5th at 7:24PM EST (link)regarding President Obama, Congressional Democrats and the De-Stimulus Bill, coupled with the fact that, in its current form, the “stimulus” bill will not only fail, but fail miserably, and is likely to make the financial crisis worse, I believe you’re being much too pessimistic about the odds for Conservatism’s resurgence, even in the short-term…
Liberalism, of the “progressive” variety, is on display for all the world to see…
And each day, more Americans become disillusioned as they realize: “Change” is nothing but more of the same, tired Washington politics. Except this time, it’s on steroids.

The stimulus bill, in a form close enough to the current House version
mbecker908 (Diary) Thursday, February 5th at 7:59PM EST (link)for “government work” (meaning way north of $800B and including Christmas for the Dem Voter Fraud base) will pass in a breeze.
Arlen Specter, the ME girls and Senator Weepy will see to that.
That Republicans can uphold a filibuster on ANYTHING is a joke.
So true...
rbdwiggins (Diary) Thursday, February 5th at 9:10PM EST (link)For some in the US Senate, comity is valued more than principle or constitutional responsibility.
As long as the House GOP remains united in opposition to this spending bill, and in its place, offers a viable economic recovery package of their own…
The Democrats will pass this monstrosity in spite of Republican opposition, and in the process, Obama will assume complete ownership of the pending economic collapse this bill will facilitate.
At that point, the Democrats will have no plan, no credibility and no hope.

Like I said, even if Obama totally screws the economy
kyle8 (Diary) Saturday, February 7th at 9:29PM EST (link)that does not mean he will get the blame for it. He can blame Bush and the eeeevil republican obstructionists and the eeevil wall street hustlers for a long time.
Remember FDR had over eight years with virtually no success at all in the great depression and almost all the old people still blames republicans for it.

Blaming Bush
OccamsRazor (Diary) Saturday, February 7th at 11:06PM EST (link)I think it’s important for us not to assume that this is allowable, but to get out in front of it. Accept that this is the Administration’s MO to make sure that Bush is blamed for all the current transgressions and deflect.
In the end, it’s my gut that says this strategy is a fallacy and is doomed. Bottom line is that BO was propped so far up on a pedestal, that he’s going to HAVE to carry the burden of what is obvious a result of his inexperience and incompetence beyond a teleprompter. The American people don’t like long wars, and they certainly don’t like short pocket books.
Yes, it does...
rbdwiggins (Diary) Sunday, February 8th at 9:37AM EST (link)In this case, FDR and the New Deal is a false analogy. It took seventy years for the truth about the New Deal’s real economic effects to become public knowledge, and the truth regrading the New Deal’s abject failure is still not widely known or accepted.
In comparison, the realization by nearly 50% of the American public that President Obama’s “stimulus” bill is a complete boondoggle, that it will have little to no positive effect on the economy and it’s likely to make the economy worse and prolong the recession, was virtually instantaneous.
FDR didn’t have to contend with daily analysis of the New Deal by The Heritage Foundation, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Redstate and the rest of the New Media.
It may as well be written in stone: President Obama will try to avoid responsibility and shift the blame, but just like his “stimulus” bill, he is destined to fail.
Again, I don’t share your pessimism.

Only for a while, then due to family tradition and religious roots, South American immigrants will swing more Right on social issues, as we saw on amendment 6. As long as the Right stays fairly pro family and has a large Christian base, we can still hurt the Dems on social issues, despite immigration
I see ZERO evidence of that happening.

What Kyle said...
mbecker908 (Diary) Saturday, February 7th at 9:48PM EST (link)and, just what % of the “South American immigrant” vote did we get?
And as far as Prop 8 (amendment 6?) is concerned, I don’t know what the breakdown was, but I’m guessing there was significant crossover between “8″ supporters and Obama voters.

6eorge Jetson (Diary) Sunday, February 8th at 12:27AM EST (link)I’d say the odds are pretty good.
We lost control of the 111th congress in the 109th & 110th. I’d say we’re off to a pretty darn good 111th (given our minority status), and if the Republican caucus continues to value conservative principles over deal-making, then I think you’ll be rather surprised come November 2010.
I think so too, dems overreaching = GOP victories in the future

Fair Points, so what now?
MetaCosm (Diary) Sunday, February 8th at 1:27AM EST (link)So, the question now is, how to we respond to / counter / react to the following items.
1. Powerful special interest groups
2. Mainstream media bias
3. Academia bias
4. Celebrities endorsements
5. Direct government funding of leftist (ACORN, etc) groups
6. Redistricting
7. Unionisation of workplaces
8. Amnesty for illegals
9. Lack of accountability
10. The failure of the Republican party not to reform the nation when they had the chance
– There were some other points that I decided to ignore. The assumption that democrats will gain in certain states, the inability to get congress, etc. Yes, we need to win elections, that is what all the other points are about.
– I would love to see some comments about possible solutions to these numbered issues, because they are worth talking about.

Possible Responses...
MetaCosm (Diary) Sunday, February 8th at 1:38AM EST (link)1. ?
2. Focus on alternative media, find new ways to reach out.
3. Go after those people who donate to schools, encourage them to demand more balanced staffing.
4. I am uncertain on how much celebrity endorsements matter, would be interesting to research.
5. ?
6. ?
7. Tie the industries that are failing the most spectacularly to the unionization in those industries.
8. This is a issue I am shocked to see Republican’s constantly weak on — when they have the public on their side.
9. Focus on making Obama ‘own’ what is happening. I don’t think modern Americans are as forgiving as they were during FDR’s reign.
10. Let the Republicans know loud and clear that it WAS a failure, they did not contain spending.
