John McCain Should Be Ashamed

He is going to destroy Joe the Plumber

John McCain made a point of singling out an individual in last night’s debate and I think he’s just guaranteed that that person is going to be completely and utterly destroyed, along with his family.

Everyone knows Joe the Plumber by now, and the New York Times is running an article about everything about him and his family. It’s really wrong to mention someone in a debate when you know they’re going to get drawn and quartered by the press as a result.

The knives are out for Joe the Plumber, and it was a mistake for McCain to single him out.

John McCain should never have mentioned this man. He not only didn’t help his case, he has destroyed him in the process.

McCain lost last night’s debate, by the way. I haven’t chimed in until now, but I shut it off after the first hour because McCain was wrecking himself. He was erratic and unprepared, because he still harbors illusions about himself about being the middle of the road in this country, but he’s wrong.

Back to the drawing board, folks. Try to live through the next four years.

You picked a really bad day to post this.

Don’t expect any recommends. Many of us are not willing to just roll over and hope for the best while preparing for the worst.

Many of us are still in the fight–why have you given up so fast?

No Alex, you should be ashamed.

c17wife (Diary) Thursday, October 16th at 3:01PM EST (link)

Oe the plumber has put himself out there. He’s doing interviews, impropmtu pressers, what not. The guy will be fine. And the left attacks him at their own peril.

As for you, keep it to yourself if you can’t be positive. I had high hopes for you this AM, but not any more.

Unrecommend.

Duty is ours, outcomes belong to God.~Mike Pence

McCain didn't vet the guy

kowalski (Diary) Thursday, October 16th at 3:09PM EST (link)

And now he’s a target. He should at the very least have refrained from mentioning him. He’s put this guy in the spotlight and now his whole livelihood is in jeopardy.

Joe put himself in the spotlight and he's not griping,

janis (Diary) Thursday, October 16th at 3:15PM EST (link)

so keep your disapproval to yourself. Your former liberal self is speaking, not the conservative one. Joe’s no victim, he’s a middle class working stiff who chose to stand up for what he believes–which shows more courage than those who profess to believe in principles and then lay them down when it looks too hard to live by them.

Did you use the word erratic?

“My friends, it is coming to my attention that a great number of you are fearful of an Obama win. I must stress that you have nothing to fear from Obama winning the election as I have the greatest confidence he would be a most benevolent dictator.” – Hopefully John McCain

Completely disagree

Dave_in_Fla (Diary) Thursday, October 16th at 3:19PM EST (link)

Joe is much more likely to be looked back at as the turning point that led McCain to victory.

And I’m pretty confident that Joe is going to be just fine. His Youtube segment had plenty of views prior to McCain’s comment. And now he will have an even longer moment of fame.

For the record, I got an email from the McCain Florida operation this morning, and they have set up a hotline for other “Joe’s” to call in with their stories.

The more the left attacks this guy, the more McCain is going up in the polls.

“If they were merely incompetent, then at least SOME of their actions would have been to the benefit of the country.” – Joe McCarthy

The other problem is that he used him

kowalski (Diary) Thursday, October 16th at 3:21PM EST (link)

He used the guy to make a simple point about wealth redistribution that he should have been able to make himself. I was disgusted that McCain couldn’t stand up for himself without using Joe the Plumber to mention why Barack Obama’s tax plan is wrongheaded.

Instead he put this guy up in front of him and now he’s getting slammed. McCain isn’t going to get slammed: Joe the Plumber is.

Plus, it will be good for business

My rules of the road for primary season.
Rule #1: Vote for YOUR first choice in the primaries
Rule #2: Vote for the R in the general.
Rule #3: Don’t let anyone convince you to violate Rule #1 or Rule #2
Rule #4: When in a center-right argument, reaffirm Rules #1-#3–it will help us all to get along better.
Rule #5: If you are using the language of the left, you probably aren’t furthering conservativism
Rule #6: The priority is issues first, candidates second, and supporters third. Nobody is bigger than the issues. Conversely, if you spend your time focusing on supporters, you are wasting everyone’s time.

STOP THE MADNESS!

A reduction in the rate of spending increases is NOT a cut!
In-state tuition for illegals is NOT amnesty!
Requiring someone to pay their medical bills is NOT an individual mandate!
Reducing tax rates is NOT a tax increase!

Hey for the record I hope I'm wrong

kowalski (Diary) Thursday, October 16th at 3:24PM EST (link)

I hope this wasn’t the stupidest thing John McCain ever did — by singling out this guy and having the New York Times feature him on the front page so he can have his house blown up.

So far from what I’ve seen people want to boil him in oil on the Left, and this guy is probably going to need some help.

It was risky to mention Joe, in the sense that Joe could have turned out to be a stealth Obama supporter

JSobieski (Diary) Thursday, October 16th at 3:27PM EST (link)

If Joe is “destroyed” I think we can find plenty of people willing to start a company called “That Joe Guy, LLC” and everything will turn out fine.

Dems mention their annectdotal stories all the time. What you propose is unilateral surrender.

teegolfer (Diary) Thursday, October 16th at 3:35PM EST (link)

John should makea public apology to Ms. Delores Alfond – Chair National Alliance of Families for the denigrating language you directed to her during the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs. Check out his many video on Youtube that represent his anger.

He mentioned him over and over

shooflyguy68 Thursday, October 16th at 3:36PM EST (link)

to the point that it became more of a gimmick than anything. Today Joe is likely to lose his livelihood for a while until he gets licensed to work in Toledo and the whole country knows he hasn’t paid his taxes in the past. I’m not sure how a tax dodging man who doesn’t bother to follow local law by getting a license is much of a hero. I agree with Kowalski. McCain could have made the point about income redistribution without bringing up Joe over and over.

We are all Joe the plumber now.

blooch Thursday, October 16th at 3:39PM EST (link)

As C17wife said, “the left attacks him at their own peril.” Joe can take it, because Americans still root for the underdog, and Obama’s minions tend to go over the top in situations like this.

What Americans don’t do anymore is fear the camera, and by extension, the media. Years of “reality” shows, cheap video cameras amd now cell-phone cameras have cured our culture of stage fright. Nobody looks uncomfortable in front of the camera anymore. We all mug for it now and hope for our 15 minutes. Joe’s getting his, and he and his family won’t be permanently traumatized; they know how this game is played. You can pity Joe and scold McCain, as long as you help vote Obama off the show.

Joe isn’t saying who he is voting for.

cough although he did just bring up Ayers name on Cavuto, and said John McCain was an American hero.

By the way this was his SECOND interview with Neil Cavuto…the first one PRIOR to the debate.

just saying…

I respect you, but I couldn't disagree with you more.

Tim_Schieferecke (Diary) Thursday, October 16th at 3:50PM EST (link)

Joe will be just fine. If I were him, I’d move to Texas, Utah or somewhere in the common sense midwest and start his plumbing business right now. He’s getting all kinds of free advertising right now on Rush and Sean et. al. . He needs to strike while the fires hot. This is an opportunity for him, not a hindrance.

McCain promised that

kowalski (Diary) Thursday, October 16th at 3:54PM EST (link)

McCain promised that he was going to take it to Barack Obama last night and instead what he did was prop up Joe the Plumber, who is now on his way to being discredited by the New York Times and the Plumber’s Brotherhood.

John McCain stood this guy up last night and apparently he’s still living in the fantasy world where the long knives don’t exist for everything and everyone he references.

He was wrong to put him in that position, on a number of levels. When Obama smirked at the mention of his name it’s because Obama knew that all the research had already been done on the guy. There was no surprise there, except for this schlub who is now going to have to watch his back for the rest of his life.

Really?

securitymom (Diary) Thursday, October 16th at 4:03PM EST (link)

Joe seems to enjoy getting his 15 minutes of fame.

By the way…unlike you…I think Joe will be just fine. I have faith that the “Joe’s” of the world can handle the liberal media.

when she was good she was very, very good, but when she was bad she was awful.

I don’t know what debate you were watching, but we were watching Sen McCain scoring points on issue after issue. I would have loved to see him hit harder, but I could FEEL Americans running to their computers and GOOGLING Ayers and ACORN and Joe the plumber.

He set in motion a fundamental change in this campaign….

You are wrong on this one kowalski....Joe asked Obama the question and than the video went viral and Joe was....

on Neil Cavuto etc before McCain even used is name…..if you don’t like McCain fine BUT find something else to beat up on him about this is just silly~!

Yep...

cause everyone is tripping over themselves to hire an unlicensed plumber.

I’m sure the guys who actually fulfilled the apprentice requirements and took the exam will be thrilled to toss Joe all their extra work….all that construction going on and all.

saying you dont need a license to do residential plumbing in OH. If the Faux Messiah and his 12 disciples (ABC, CBS, CNN, Daily Kos, Huffpo, LA Times, Moveon, MSNBC, Newsweek, NY Times, Time, and The Washington Post) keep attacking him it is going to back fire big time. Do you think people are going to vote for a guy that is going attack you personally if you just ask a fair policy question? It will start to sink in with people that this guy acts and talks like a Communist.

My Potus shortlist

declared candidates:

1. Tim Pawlenty
2. Herman Cain
3. Gary Johnson
4. Rick Santorum

Joe will be fine. He has many more friends looking out for him now, maybe even a law-enforcement shadow. (And lead pipes can be dangerous to one’s health.) My wife and I were going to see McCain tomorrow, and we were trying to come up with our own Joe question, but one that would give McCain a chance to say something good.

Why am I not surprised by the recommenders of this diary?

Matthew Morris (Diary) Friday, October 17th at 1:13PM EST (link)

At any rate- the responsibility for the potential repercussions rests with first the drive-bys, and secondly with Joe.

To whatever degree McCain is responsible, well lets just say his responsibility quotient is completely usurped by that of the media. Particularly in light of the fact that Joe has been putting himself out there- including prior to the debate.

This might offend some- but too bad because it is as true as true can be. To put primary responsibility for Joe’s problems on McCain is like blaming the targeted terrorist killings for retaliatory bus or market suicide bombings. You gots the wrong onus!

JadedByPolitics (Diary) Friday, October 17th at 1:33PM EST (link)

recommended the one to HELP Joe out because the reality is Conservatives want to be able to CHOOSE whom they help with their dollars and NOT the Federal Government.

Joe did indeed bring it on himself BUT let me say I would have taken that same opportunity to show Obama’s true Socialism if I had been asked to ask him a question and so would have you and WE would have had every skeleton in our and our families lives brought up so the media wing of the Democrat party can protect their Messiah!
