Nashua Telegraph Letter: Proud of Kelly Ayotte

Petty politics detract from Ayotte decision

I was saddened to see the partisan response in the July 8 Telegraph to the decision of Attorney General Kelly Ayotte to resign her post and explore a run for U.S. Senate.

One response was even critical of Gov. John Lynch for his reappointment of Ayotte. In this climate of partisan politics, one should stop and consider the commentary on Ayotte’s talents implied by this reappointment, by a Democratic governor, of a Republican to New Hampshire’s top law enforcement position. I know this of Kelly Ayotte.

When Mark Rowland, a staffer at Nashua Children’s Home, was murdered 10 years ago, on Aug. 20, 1999, it was Kelly Ayotte who so competently prosecuted this case, not once, but twice, ensuring that the murderer would be convicted to a sentence of life imprisonment with no possibility of parole.

It was early on in the retrial that then-Assistant Attorney General Ayotte was promoted to her current office. But she felt that this case was important enough – that her commitment to Mr. Rowland’s family, his friends and colleagues vital enough – that she saw it through.

I, for one, have no issue with Kelly Ayotte’s commitment on any level.

I saw that morning’s headline (“Ayotte resigns as AG, eyes Senate run”) and was immediately filled with a sense of pride for knowing Kelly Ayotte. I’m certain that anyone who knows her feels the same way.

It was only when reading the typical, partisan political commentary within that story that I became dismayed.

Contrast that letter with

the slime coming from Kathy Sullivan in this morning’s Union Leader. Since the Democrat party in NH has no one who can make a reasonable argument as to why they should be in power, they have no choice but to send in the old retread, Kathy Sullivan, to do their dirty work. I cannot wait until the elections next year. Hopefully we can turn NH back into a nice place to live.

Don't it make your blue state RED, New Hampshire Senate Race

I agree with your assesment about the Telegraph, but I blame the obnoxious leader of the State Democrat party for his nasty remarks. Read them below.

“Kelly Ayotte made a pledge to serve out her term as attorney general and has now turned her back on her responsibilities. We now know that she is deserting the people of New Hampshire in favor of personal ambition,” said state Democratic Party Chairman Raymond Buckley.

“We’re seeing a national trend where Republicans have abandoned their responsibilities to their constituents in favor of political gain. From Alaska to New Hampshire, Republicans just can’t seem to honor their commitment to the public. Not unlike Sarah Palin, Kelly Ayotte has broken her promise to the people she represents and put politics before public service.”

Isn’t it typical of the Democrats that they believe that people must serve the government and not consider personal ambition. Comrads we have seen this before. Government first, stifle the individual.

Aside from the fact is that Kelly Ayotte has served the state with honor and dignity and a sense of accomplishment so great that the Democrat governor couldn’t find a suitable socialist Democrat to appoint to the position ahead of her.

Keep your red state eyes on her. Support her, bring back New Hampshire to the Republicans.

are so threatened by her. Their over-reaction has the potential to blow up in their face. Saying that Ayotte hasn’t served NH well when she has tried numerous cases whose details are so tough and disturbing I doubt will work. Changing her mind, or being ambitious is hardly a high political crime. There comparing her to Palin could be a risky choice as their tie is that they are Republican women who recently resigned. If they come off as knuckle-draggers who have a different standard for either women or Republican women they may find themselves in a hole coming into this race.
