If you read the spinning MSM's reports carefully you'll note that the only thing on which there is consensus is that Coburn told Ensign to can it.

Hampton then goes on to *allege" that Coburn suggested a large payoff. Coburn's office vehemently denies that charge.

So, we have the word of a man who whined and cried about Ensign making this affair public who, it was later learned, had been threatening to expose the whole thing if Ensign didn't pay him off (I believe that is a felonious act called extortion) vs the word of one of the most respected and principaled Christian conservatives in politics.

Barring further evidence to the contrary, my money's on the non-felon. So, I'm not feeling the need to defend something for which there is zero evidence.

(And my apologies for not usung the 'reply to this'. For some reason it doesn't seem to want to work)

"one Christian telling another Christian to knock off his sinful behavior"I don't see SEn. Coburn telling Sen. Ensign to pay off his mistress' house and move her family to Colorado as Christian advice. And how you can defend that, I will never understand.

I need some good combacks

OMG, is that it? What a waste of time? BIG effin deal! A jello eating contents and a 4th of July Festivity in Ontario? this blows the lid off... not!

Because it was July 4th - people relax and sometimes even do some goofy community thing. Jeez, it was one day. He could have been in Argentina with Mark Sanford or quitting his job Like Palin or out with Ensign. And that was just in one week! Sorry, Jello-gate doesn't warrant any attention. You ought to look at George W's record of goofing off in office - it blows away all his predecessors by a long shot.

from the Sanford & Ensign sagas long enough to cover this.

Speaking of media hypocrisy (which is a constant) I *loved* the following 2 tidbits Yahoo frontpaged today from AP

1) Levi Johnston has opined that he knows why Sarah quit - it was to make money from a book (so says the 19 year old gold-digger who made more than just chump change from his 'tour' of the US bashing the Palins and who has his own....wait for it....book deal coming up) and,

2) the 'revelation' that Tom Coburn told Ensign to knock off his affair in February in no uncertain terms. So...how does the media spin one Christian telling another Christian to knock off his sinful behavior? Why, of course, the AP says this is another body blow to the GOP because no a second senator has been 'implicated' in the scandal.

How these guys look themselves in the mirror in the morning is simply beyond my comprehension.

the local pressers because when it comes to the national press, the equation always seems to go something along the lines of:

Liberal Politician Caught in Bald-faced Lie = Crickets Chirping.

The dude is SO busted. "In my office, as I WAS, Saturday and Sunday". No big surprise that it was a frakking UNION party. Figures.

I hope the Ohio press is still free and neutral enough to completely go to town on this.
