Democrat leaders in Congress claimed that the rich paid for and organized by force this gathering last Wednesday. They claimed it was ,”shameful,” and, “despicable,” because the protest was against the massive deficit and spending agenda being forced upon America by Barack Obama and the liberals who run Congress.
The media and the left quickly jumped on a report that stated that 250,000 was the ,”pitiful,” number of people nationwide who attended the Tea Parties. They neglected to report that this number was from less than half of the Tea Parties and when the nearly 900 that actually occurred across the Nation are counted the number is closer to 750 to 800,000.
Fox News was attacked as an ,”extremist right wing,” conservatives only news outlet because only Fox understood the true significance of the rallies and chose to report it as the real news that it was throughout the day. Yet the ratings prove that the Fox coverage was not only justified but expressed the real interest and support by the public as Fox ratings destroyed all other outlets on April 15.
The left in their degrading of the Tea Parties have shown their actual concern over the protests. You don’t attack something that you are not afraid of. The attacks by the left and the MSM bordered on insanity with the accusations and the insults that were directed at the Tea Parties and the overboard attempt to try and pass them off as only a gathering of ,”right wing racists.”
First the true significance of the Tea Parties and why they truly scare the left comes from understanding the difference between this movement and the anti-war protests or other left leaning gatherings that have taken place. Liberals for the most part are followers. There are some exceptions but as a whole when one liberal gathers for a cause the rest of the sheep will follow.
Second, it is widely known that many liberals are protesters by profession. ACORN and other liberal groups when organizing protests actually pay expenses and sometimes even salaries to those who protest for whatever leftists cause that is on the menu for any particular day. And the protests are organized and financed by well known left leaning groups like ACORN, Code Pink, Move On .org or other less famous but equally left leaning.
The Tea Parties are a grass roots movement of everyday Americans who for the most part embrace the more conservative values. The movement crosses all party lines and where the real significance is found rests in the fact that we are not followers but individualists who seldom if at all participate in gatherings to protest or anything else for that matter.
Unlike liberal sheep it takes a great deal to move us to gather and stand en mass for anything. We would rather use our time pursuing our daily activities and embrace our beliefs in a private way or discuss them with only close friends and family.
For 750,000or more conservatives to gather for anything en mass as happened on April 15 is extremely significant because if underlines the real and true anger that is brewing against the government and the agenda that is being pushed in Washington. This anger did not start with Barack Obama. In fact it has been brewing for years. Obama’s excessive policy became the catalyst that prompted us to finally move in a way we have considered for years.
When adding the numbers that Fox News had on Wednesday, which totaled almost 4 million each for the top two news commentary shows that covered the Tea Parties live and nearly 3 million each for the next tier, all of which more than tripled the closest competitor for Prime Time news coverage, the interest and true strength of the Tea Party movement becomes obvious.
This is not just against taxation. We, as with most Americans do not mind paying our fair share. This is actually a long overdue stand by everyday Americans who are fed up with big government, excessive spending, massive deficits and Representative who are more interested in satisfying themselves and lobby’s than the people who put them in office.
We are tired of government telling us what to do rather than the true Constitutional principle of government being fully accountable to a following the will of the people. We are tired of our founding Constitutional principles of limited government and no government intrusion in our freedoms and everyday lives being ignored and the Constitution itself being disregarded and the rule of law found within ignored and broken by an overbearing and abusive federal government.
We are tired of politicians who have forgotten that they work for us and only see the American people as an after thought to their lust for power and control of our money and the way that we choose to live our lives. If any of this is right wing extremism then so be it because it is the true essence of who we truly are as a people and what the Founders envisioned for freedom and liberty in America.
Had Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, Adams, Paine, even Lincoln and Reagan been alive today they would have been standing with us on April 15. Standing for the Constitution and against excessive, obtrusive and ever expanding government. Standing against professional politicians who care little or not at all about the will of the people but drool with lust for power over those same people.
This is why the left is scared by what happened on April 15 and are attacking it as they are. This is why behind the scenes in those corners of Washington that never face a camera where hushed discussion takes place and real concern is expressed, those in the halls of Congress and the White House are watching this movement with great concern and anxiousness because they understand that the people are moving and that when we move the true power of this Nation is truly displayed and the elitist in Washington will be trampled in the onslaught.
This was not a one day event. But a true grassroots movement of and by the people that will continue to grow and whose numbers will continue to rise as more Americans come to realize as we have that ,”we the people,” is not just a poetic phrase in our Constitution but the real strength and essence of who we are as a Nation. That government must bow to the will of the people or face the consequences of angry Americans who are willing to fight for what we believe, stand for freedom and defend by our voice and our vote the Constitution of The United States especially when those who have taken an oath to defend the same have forsaken that sacred oath and trust.

They are scared of us tea partiers
peg_c (Diary) Sunday, April 19th at 11:09AM EST (link)Great post. The Drive-Bys and the Left, including the administration, are scared spitless of us and should be. I hope Congress is as well! My family is already planning for the July 4th tea parties.
Someone on a blog suggested, IF there is a 3rd party movement out of this (I also believe 3rd parties are a ticket to irrelevance and a way to hand power to the enemy), it should name itself the Federalist Party. That, at least, makes sense for the tea party crowd. I agree though that we have to reform the GOP from within. But I’m cynical enough to think that can’t happen without term limits or some method of ruthlessly rooting out most incumbents. I don’t underestimate the potential power of the tea party movement, however.
Government cannot be the solution when government is the problem.

penguin2 (Diary) Sunday, April 19th at 11:23AM EST (link)Can you site the sources for the 750,000-800,000 number? Raven has us near 400,000-196 parties reported. Once the numbers are firmed up, we should try to site them everywhere, constantly. Perhaps Fox news will do follow-up stories; I see Jonah Goldberg is a Fox News contributor now.
I truly hope you are right-that the left is concerned about what is happening in middle America and they fear the movement. Minimizing and being dismissive toward us should create a backlash and further grow the dissenting voices.
One point that I think should receive more coverage is the idea that Pres. Obama was “unaware” of the tea parties. I don’t believe for a moment that he is unaware, but, if they want to play that game…what does it say about the President of the United States being unaware of what nearly a million of his constituents concerns are? I grow the number simply by recognizing that there were many of us who could not attend, but were supportive of them. Whether the people were gathered in one place or all over the country, it was not an insignificant event.
Nearly half of the electorate of 2008 did not vote for him and I believe that some of the tea party folks were his voters; I hope that his arrogance and ignorance comes back to haunt him. God knows our sleep is disturbed these days!

Section9 Tuesday, April 21st at 1:47PM EST (link)Why are you wasting bandwidth on that crowd?
Bob used to have posters of his bad self stuck up all over Chicago in the late seventies and early eighties. He went and got himself arrested because of a disturbance he pulled during a visit by the late Shah of Iran to see Jimmy Carter in 1977. So, he was going to get a trial. The RCP put up posters all over the place telling people to show up at circuit court for Bob’s trial and “burn D.C. down”.
Of course, D.C. is still there, much to the chagrin of Movement Conservatives everywhere, and so is Bob Avakian. If you go to the Revolutionary Worker website you can learn all about Bob, his beliefs, his adherence to Maoism, and his hatred for other deviationists on the Left who are candy-a$$ enough (such as lefties who wear Che t-shirts, for example) to work in coalition with the Social Fascists and vote for Obama. civil truth (Diary) Sunday, April 19th at 6:20PM EST (link)I was in San Antonio that day and was at the Alamo in the early afternoon, though not actively in the demonstration (complicated story), but I observed both when I was headed to the Alamo and various groups of people evidently headed to the rally based on their clothing and flags, etc, – and suspect even more came after work hours.
In other words, a static count at a single time point would not have captured the total number of people who participated during the many hours that the demonstration took place.
If this was the pattern elsewhere in the country, I suspect we may well have closer to a million people involved at some point during the day.

JustLeaveMeAlone (Diary) Sunday, April 19th at 6:33PM EST (link)In Houston, a city employee provided the organizers with some kind of clicker to count people as they entered Jones Plaza. Ninety minutes into the four-hour event, said city employee decided things looked too crowded and had the police close the entrances. The clickers were confiscated too, at about 4100 clicks.
Well, the people on the sidewalk didn’t care for this and began to protest it. The police decided to reopen the entrances, and from them on people just kept coming.
Some left, as well. (It was a bit warm and I only stayed a few hours myself.) Over 8,500 people stopped and signed in as they entered; many more did not sign in. Thus, the organizers thought about 11,000 were there, but they only claim numbers of 10,000.
At the end of the evening, over 2,000 people marched a few blocks down the street to the home of the Houston Chronicle. They surrounded the building, peacefully chanting, “print this! print this!”.
Alas, the day-after coverage from not only the Chron but the TV stations was a joke. They barely mentioned it. Given that there were 16 area Tea Parties totalling at least 25,000 people, you’d think this would be the lead story for days.
Wouldn’t you?

The tea parties go to things fundamental.
UpLateAgain (Diary) Monday, April 20th at 1:30AM EST (link)And that is why the left fears and/or refuses to acknowledge their import. Tea Party goers see Obama and company not as trying to move the country to the left, but rather as trying to institute a fundamental change.
What the left is trying to create will not even resemble the promotion of individual liberty that created the American exceptionalism that has benefited man everywhere on this planet, to the exclusion of and with superior result to EVERY other form of governance.
This is not left and right. It is wrong and right. And every day more people see it as live or die in a spiritual sense. The left fears it because as they are exposed for what they really are, it becomes obvious to everyone that they are going to be thrown out rather harshly and with flourish when next we access the ballot box.
And should they prevent such access, by whatever means, they will be then thrown out unceremoniously.
The Tea Parties are so heartening to us, and so vile to them, because they show that hope, and the promise of renewed American exceptionalism is very much alive and well, and it is what they despise most.

The Left and the MSM are scared
texas214 (Diary) Monday, April 20th at 12:02PM EST (link)They’ve significantly under estimated both the crowds and the impact. You see this in two ways, the way they are down playing the significance of size and magnitude (900 “parties” at an average of 500 per event minimum average = 450,000 at a minumum) and impact on reflected in past and future elections.
The left/Obama want to claim they are lowering taxes on 95%, they ignore the state taxes, user fees, cap and trade cost, and the growing debt as a way to try to dicredit the partiers. Then along comes Olbermann/Garafalo to call them names, Axelrod/Napolitano to call them dangerous.
These “partiers” are the same people who kicked out the GOP in ’06 and ’08 because of the very same issues; spending, taxes, and deficits. They’ll be the ones lined up to kick out the Dem’s in’10.
The GOP has to see this as their future, act on it, use it as the platform from which they campaign and govern.
Obama won by 9.5 million votes
6eorge Jetson (Diary) Wednesday, April 22nd at 12:42AM EST (link)under conditions that could not have been any better for Barack.
If we can get back ~5 million of those who voted, it’s even again.
Now, I suspect nearly all of the 500,000 – 800,000 did not vote for Obama,
so that’s not where the impact will come from. But if the folks who showed up can generate a buzz that influences 5-10 of their peers to come back to vote conservative again, then we will take back the presidency on the efforts of those 500,000 – 800,000 alone.
And that’s not counting a movement that is likely to grow and the voters that Obama has disgusted all by himself.

The greatest evil…is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried, and minuted) in clean, carpeted, warmed, and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voice. Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the offices of a thoroughly nasty business concern. -C.S. Lewis

Not sure where this is headed but.
carlsbadd Tuesday, April 21st at 1:07AM EST (link)It would be nice to focus this tea party movement for the better and stay unified to the cause.
You could say I am one of the tea party protesters that has never really been involved in matters quietly going along , taking care of family and trying to get ahead.
I was one that thought that Obama was middle of the road and even went to the inauguration , his acceptance speech sounded conservative and well worded. “we will not apologize for our way of life” he said.
I did not vote for him and was not concerned at first, but in 100 days he has tripled spending, taken over banks, GM, gutted any chance at oil or nuclear production and is creating forced volunteerism, this list goes on and on.
He stands for nothing that resembles America as I know it and I am terrified for our future, quietly going along is not an option for me anymore.
And don't forget
TNJim (Diary) Tuesday, April 21st at 1:28AM EST (link)He IS apologizing for our way of life, nearly everywhere he goes.
Correction: EVERWHERE he goes!
Get involved
tnmama Wednesday, April 22nd at 11:18AM EST (link)We cannot just sit back and think showing up at Tea Parties will change anything. We have to organize and get involved. Go to www.teapartynation.com and sign up. Plans are already being made to effect the next election cycle.

MacAoidh (Diary) Tuesday, April 21st at 7:52PM EST (link)…we conservatives really need to refrain from using the word “liberal” to describe the Left.
There is very little liberalism in their philosophy. Statism, certainly. Totalitarianism, maybe so. Liberalism? What liberties do they favor?
We’ve allowed these people to define themselves, and us. That was a mistake. It’s time to take back the language.

furious (Diary) Wednesday, April 22nd at 1:49PM EST (link)…the newstand price, intrepid cub reporters would ask Ms. Pelosi “Which ‘rich people’ and ‘billionaires’ are funding Tea Party protests, and how are they doing so, and how is that different what Geo. Soros does for Demcorat Party causes?
And then follow up with anyone named. You know, the way they did with R’s back when Bush was president.
