Redstate creating political activists

Last August I attended the Redstate Gathering in Buckhead.  It was at this event that I first heard of Karen Handel.  I listened to the endorsement from Erick, heard her speak, and decided to do what I could to help her campaign.  Her manager, Clint, asked me if I would consider being her campaign chair for Franklin County (Royston, 25 miles north of Athens for those that have never heard of us).

In the past year since attending the Redstate Gathering and joining Karen’s campaign, I have been to many GOP events in our area.  We’ve had BBQs, low-country shrimp boils, and other events where I was able to support Karen.  The highlight of this, for me, was at the 10th District Candidate Countdown at Cateechee.  Karen and Steve were at a wedding in St. Augustine and couldn’t attend.  I was asked by her campaign to stand in as her surrogate and speak for her.  It was certainly an honor to speak to 300 people and tell them why I support Karen Handel.

Last night we went to the Westin in Atlanta to Karen’s election night party.  Watching the results come in with other Karen supporters and seeing the fruits of our labor was truly humbling. Thanks Redstate and Erick for introducing me to this wonderful lady who truly deserves to be the next Governor of Georgia.

Was anyone in Atlanta?

I had all intentions of going today but I didn’t make it. I’m trying to keep up on the most worthless news site in the world:  ajc.com.  Their article says there were 4000 people there today and the organizers were expecting 15000.

They also said that there were 7000 there in April at the Tax Day Rally.  I’ve heard several times from Hannity and others that there were around 20000 at the April Rally.  Why are they reporting 7000?  I was at the one in April and it was huge.  I hope today went well.

I’d love an update that doesn’t come from AJC.

12 Days After the Gathering and I’m a Precinct Chair

(well, I’m supposed to meet my county president on April 22 to go over the duties.)

What do you think Cold Warrior?

Will someone please explain “trolls” to me?

I mean, I understand the definition as it relates to the blogosphere; I just don’t understand the purpose.  I’m not new to reading blogs and comments; however, I am new to commenting.

I joined the NRCC on Facebook when I got home from the Redstate Gathering.  Just now, I received an update from them on Facebook about “targeting 70 democratic seats.”  This interested me so I followed the link.  The comments are horrible.  There is nothing even remotely intellectual in the comments.

While I understand the perceived dangers of moderating comments too closely, this is a farce.  Intelligent discussion is one thing but  a pure disruption of the comment section is something else entirely.  This disgusted me.

So, why does this exist?

Goose and Gander and all that

Representative Fleming has introduced HR 615 which requires Congress to agree to use the public option of the health care plan.  From his website:

House Resolution 615

As of July 30, 2009, over 150,000 Americans from all 50 states have joined Congressman Fleming in supporting House Resolution 615.  Sign the online petition and send a message to Congress – If You Vote For A Government Take Over of Health Care, Then Promise To Use The Plan!

Check out his website

If you scroll down, you will see a link that generates a letter of support to send to your congressman.  Check it out.

Just THANKS

As someone whose political experience has been limited to voting, listening to talk radio, and reading blogs, I appreciate what you at Redstate are doing to educate people like me.

Thanks to a column I read several months ago about becoming active in our local Republican group, I went online and printed the application, put it in an envelope, addressed it and left it sitting on my desk. I’m a school teacher so it sat on my desk for the two months of summer vacation. Last week I had to grab something from my classroom and saw the application sitting there. I put it in the mail immediately.

After listening to the informative speakers at the Redstate Gathering, I now know what to do next. I’m going to give the application a couple of days to get to our County leader and then I am going to call and find out if my precinct has a chairperson. If we do, I will attend the meetings and volunteer my efforts. If we don’t, I will volunteer for that position. I am also joining my local Republican Women’s group.

Thanks for the education, Redstate. Not only that but thanks for the opportunity to hear the speakers on Saturday. I took something positive away from each and every person that spoke.

My brother is trying to convince me to become actively involved in a third-party. I am trying to convince him that conservative, small-government people can take back the Republican Party.

Thanks so much to all who toiled to make this gathering possible. It meant a lot to me.

Now, where do I send my pics?

Thank you all,
Kelly
