Hawaii has new “Islam Day”

State lawmakers signed into law yesterday that formed “Islam Day” in Hawaii.  They just want to “recognize ‘the rich religious, scientific, cultural and artistic contributions’” of Islam.  Does anyone else think this is scary?  Is this the U.S. or England and France.  We’ve seen how well bowing to Islams demands do for those countries in the past.  This was the beginning for them.  Then there were demands for special protection and rights.  And who can forget Shiria Law.  Yeah that’s a great idea for the U.S. while we’re fighting their terrorists right now.  Why in the world would we bow to them (oh yeah our pres already did that) and cater to their whims?  Didn’t they have a little something to do with 9/11?  Don’t we have some of them in custody somewhere?  <sarcasm btw, JLenard>

You can read the full AP article herebut here’s a piece of what the appologists in Hawaii said.

“We are a state of tolerance. We understand that people have different beliefs,” said Sen. Will Espero, a Democrat. “We may not all agree on every single item and issue out there, but to say and highlight the negativity of the Islamic people is an insult to the majority” of believers “who are good law-abiding citizens of the world.”

Now I realize that not every Muslim is a terrorist.  But the infiltration is slow and quiet just like they’ve done in other countries.  It’s a pattern they’ve used before and we would to well to take care not to lower our guard.

Hawaii is just barely a part of the US culturally,

socially, and politically. Something some people should have considered in looking at The One.

Some one should then propose a "Christian Day"

scarlos (Diary) Thursday, May 7th at 6:54PM EST (link)

To represent the vast greater contributions of the christian people to modern society.

Better yet, make it a “Jewish Day” I really want to see them try to justify killing that.

wrt Spain…Judaism had a golden age in Spain under Muslim rule, and the Christians who took it over from the Muslims expelled the Jews. Also, Muslims have contributed more to the US than 9/11.* And if you paint all of Muslim contribution to the US with 9/11, how is that different than painting all of Christian contribution to the US with something bad that has been done in the US in the name of Christianity, of which there are surely a bunch? I think both are wrong.

*the most important contribution was, of course, Hakeem Olajuwon.

Islam, not particular Arabs or Muslims, was the subject

rarely use it given that words like "all" and "none" and their

I made the mistake myself above.

Praising Islam for its contributions to science, culture, and art

Flagstaff (Diary) Thursday, May 7th at 7:53PM EST (link)

is like condemning Christianity for the Crusades and the Inquisition. Both events happened so long ago as to be irrelevant to current times.

But we might observe that some segments of modern-day Islam would not be averse to its own version of both the Crusades and the Inquisition. You, know, the segments who didn’t speak out against 9/11 and refuse to recognize the problem with bombing Israeli civilians because they’re there. It has been a long time since Islam supported science unless it could be used to subjugate somebody else.

“The press is so powerful in its image-making role that it can make a criminal look like he’s the victim and make the victim look like he’s the criminal. If you aren’t careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.”– Malcolm X, Audubon Ballroom, December 13, 1964

I think I must say that I would be wrong to say that either made “no” contributions to Spain and even France since they did preserve the classics. I just think that judeo-christian values are so key to what a great and tolerant society western civ, and esp America became.

I think the idea of “Islam Day” is incredibly stupid

noufa Friday, May 8th at 3:10PM EST (link)

And I make no apologies for condemning violence done in the name of Islam.

But it’s worth noting that Fazlur Khan’s innovations in structural engineering allowed us to build the WTC in the first place. It’s a cruel irony that the building was brought down by people who shared his faith.

The MSM has anointed boobs like Keith Ellison & Andre Carson as the face of Islamic America. However meritocrats like Zalmay Khalilzad, Elias Zerhouni & Shirin Tahir-Kehli are on our side of the aisle.

Hold on, first, what kind of resolution is this?

civil truth (Diary) Thursday, May 7th at 7:24PM EST (link)

Legislatures routinely approve all sorts of resolutions declaring an “XYZ day” from local councils to Congress. These involve no government action in support or expenditure – they’re usually written by the group and after approval via the consent calendar, the group gets to put the resolution on a nice plaque.

All sorts of people (dead or alive) and causes and groups get recognition from resolutions. These “Days” can be birthday or weddings, something to honor the local broccoli farmers, or leukemia awareness day, etc. Nothing insidious.

If this is just another of these kind of resolutions, then we have a tempest in a tea pot.

On the other hand, if there is some affirmative state action that this resolution is approving in support of the events planned for this day, then we’ve got a horse of a different color, including a possible Establishment Clause issue.

The greatest evil…is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried, and minuted) in clean, carpeted, warmed, and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voice. Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the offices of a thoroughly nasty business concern. -C.S. Lewis

We don’t know for sure because we’re not in Hawaii (much as I’d like to be). Whichever it is bears watching. History has shown us that Islam spreads not like wildfire but slowly and quietly until it’s too late to pull back. Now that there is a precedent, I think we’ll see it in other states. Who pushed this decision? It didn’t come from nowhere.

you can bet that means;

That is what it always seems to really mean.
