DNC to Spend $50 Million on Midterms

Hoping for the best but spending for the worst, national Democrats acknowledged Friday they intend to inject a considerable $50 million this Fall in contested House, Senate and gubernatorial campaigns across the nation.

The assistance–which will consist primarily of money and services dolled out by the Democratic National Committee and the White House’s political operation, Organizing for America–will begin sometime in June, and is intended to foment depressed down-ticket fundraising and voter contact programs in advance of the midterm elections.

First reported by POLITICO and later confirmed by CNN, a senior Democratic operative said the national committee will provide “an unprecedented amount of cash and field, with a special emphasis on base turnout — youth, African-Americans, Latinos and first-time voters.”

Though details remain hazy, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who in 2006 steered the House campaign committee, and his deputy Jim Messina unveiled the program Thursday at a Senate Democratic luncheon. The meeting, Chris Cillizza reports, was the first of a series intended to assuage incumbent fears that support for President Barack Obama’s health care package will be a liability in November.

White House Communications Director Dan Pfieffer, who was also in attendance at the meeting, said the Administration will soon hire a “very senior official” exclusively tasked with running interference on health care, presumably to fill the vacuum created when Linda Douglas resigned earlier this month from her post as communications director of the Office of Health Reform.

The DNC’s effort will augment existing programs by Democratic Hill campaign committees, who in years past had butted heads with the national committee over their perceived focus with presidential politics. In 2006, then-DNC chief Howard Dean apportioned a meager $2.4 million to competitive House and Senate races. By contrast, the DNC spent nearly $300 million on the presidential election two years prior.

Following the passage of the President’s health care overhaul, the DNC reported having raised $13 million in March. The Republican National Committee, who is also expected to invest heavily this cycle, raised $11.4 million.

Healthcare takeover was the last straw

vortigernpendragon (Diary) Friday, April 16th at 3:41PM EST (link)

Folks, America may only have a few years of sustainability left at this level of spending. Even if Republicans regain Congress this fall, I don’t see how they will be able to reverse course on the budget. We have to make government listen to us. I am planning a new serious of videos to promote my website which is intended to get government’s attention. Here is the first one.

Please pass it along to everyone you know (if you agree with this idea). It’s time to get on board, America’s survival may depend on it.

Thanks

Perhaps the DNC should save some cash for Fearless Leader.

What are the Democrats going to do when they realize $50 million can’t buy votes?

If they play true to form

Finrod (Diary) Friday, April 16th at 4:35PM EST (link)

They’ll call the general public racists.

Let’s get down to brass tacks here. How much for the ape?

I say bring it on. It’s going to be a wild ride.

Money won't help Dem incumbents or candidates this election cycle.

RealQuiet (Diary) Friday, April 16th at 4:58PM EST (link)

Any average funded GOP candidate stands a great chance of winning in the fall.

“Any vote for a Democratic congressman is a vote for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker and Harry Reid as Senate Majority Leader.”

Look what happened to John Corzine and Martha Coakley

So true, RealQuiet. John Kerry/George Soros

spent huge sums of money in ’04 and it still wasn’t enough to drag that lanky carcass across the finish line. At this point, huge numbers of people detest incumbents, particularly Dem incumbents. I’d say $50 millions in this climate is doing it on the cheap.

Slush fund, er I mean stimulus money

abeldred (Diary) Friday, April 16th at 6:29PM EST (link)

will finance O’s Organizing for America to be sure. It already paid for votes on HCR and now we will pick up the tab to campaign for the corrupt Marxist play to stay in power.

Oh where, oh where is all that TARP money?

abbynormal Friday, April 16th at 8:12PM EST (link)

Just wondering where it’s going to show up and “create” all those jobs….the DNC, perhaps?

I'm with you.

republichic Monday, April 19th at 9:47AM EST (link)

You are right “on the money.” It’s too convenient that we have millions still unspent of the Stimulus money. It’s just sitting there waiting on the Dems to pluck each and every dollar for themselves. The money paid back on TARP went into a nice little box for them. Why would the American people think anything different? We can’t because there has been no accountability. It’s up to all of us who love our Country to defeat the Dems and any Republican who supports this Administration. We are facing challenges like never before. Unless Obama and his flunkies can prove where the money has gone and prove it without a shadow of a doubt, then there’s no other explanation than to say the Democrats are committing fraud and theft by using our tax dollars to re-elect themselves. Everything they have done since Obama was elected is an impeachable offense. Who will be our hero to stand up and finally call for these unpatriotic, anti-Americans to face impeachment?

How deep is the ocean how large is the base?

toadold Friday, April 16th at 6:44PM EST (link)

I was reading that the volunteers who will be working to elect will be worth more than money to get the Republican/Conservative base out to vote.

The polling shows a growing dissatisfaction amongst the Independent/Swing vorters who decide elections. The young college graduate voter who hasn’t been able to find a job, the Latino who can’t find a job, and the all the other minorities who can’t find jobs aren’t going to be to motivated to get to work.

While the can ACORN their way to gains I don’t think that is going to work for them as well as in the past, “Everywhere you go, everything you do, I’ll be watching yooooo.”

If the blow a lot of money and still loose the House, trying to get funds for 2012 is going to be even harder

Well ain't this just a swell base

Tbone (Diary) Friday, April 16th at 6:50PM EST (link)

“with a special emphasis on base turnout — youth, African-Americans, Latinos and first-time voters.”

How about considering your base “Taxpaying Americans”. Perhaps the Country would be better served.

Who Pays for Rahm? DNC or USA? Conflicts?

GregInFla (Diary) Friday, April 16th at 8:13PM EST (link)

How do people decide when Rahm works for us in his position of WH Chief of Staff, and when he works for the DNC? Actually, same question applies for Obama, since he has two jobs too. Does Emanuel fill out a timecard, can he work on items outside of his CofS role during normal working hours, does he get paid by the DNC? When I hear the “White House announced a plan to get seats in November” I get worried that I am paying for that work. Come to think of it, if the CEO of Goldman Sachs cannot work at another company, how come the chief executive of the USA can?

Are they going to campaign on?. I mean seriously, bigger government? Increased spending?.. This should be the easiest campaign the GOP have ever taken part in.

If that doesn't work they'll declare Martial Law and call it a day...
