In all but confirmed leaks, Obama is set to name his national security team – Gates, Clinton, Jones – on Monday. Obama’s highly anticipated
announcement, notwithstanding any surprises, stands to seal the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman’s proverbial
foreign policy coffin, and not a moment too soon, I might add (see: This whole ‘time table’ thing is boring me.
Let’s partition Iraq!).

“triumvirate:”
The triumvirate of Gates, Clinton and Jones to lead Obama’s ‘national security team’ instills great confidence at home and abroad; and, further strengthens the growing respect for the president-elect’s courage and ability to exercise sound judgement [sic] in selecting the ‘best and the brightest’ to implement our nation’s security policies.
If Gates, Clinton, and Jones are, in Warner’s eyes, the “best and brightest,” what does the loquacious six term senator from Delaware represent? A
necessary nuisance, more than likely. Obama’s soon to be named ‘triumvirate’ has relegated Biden to nothing more than a constitutionally mandated
sycophant, a “yes man” whose opinions (and yes, he has many) will likely be disregarded by the above-mentioned heavyweights.
Biden, who once urged a paraplegic state senator to stand to his feet at a
rally, earned a reputation as the wordiest man in Washington, but became increasingly muzzled by his Obama handlers after a series of significant –
and humorous – gaffes. As if muzzling him for the cycle wasn’t bad enough, it seems his frequent
off-the-cuff comments – a welcomed break from the drudgery that was my life for the last year and a half – have permanently landed him in the
dog house. Let’s just hope his handlers forgot to re-muzzle him; we all need a laugh from time to time.

According to them, Biden was the PERFECT choice, with his vast experience and wealth of foreign policy knowledge; he would impart to The One everything that he was lacking. How they could have advanced those lies with straight faces is now understood as Biden was never expected to do, or say anything of value in the new administration, but was there only as “window dressing”. And all those months of being told, time-and-time-again (by The One’s team, AND the MSM) that Hillary had no foreign policy credentials–other than hosting/attending tea parties and making hospital visits. Now, SHE is being lauded as the second-coming (in this case, I guess it’s the third-coming) and is being touted as the one candidate for SoS who will bring credibility and stature to The One’s polices and worldview. What a complete and utter crock!

There was talk, initially, of elevating Biden’s son, Beau (the state’s Attorney General), to his father’s post, but he said he would fulfill his commitments to the National Guard. Local pols see Kaufman’s appointment as a 2 year filler for the well-positioned Beau, who is likely to return and run for the seat in 2010.

Obama’s policies will do nothing – actually they will make the economy worse. America cannot just keep printing money without firm backing. At a certain point OPEC will cut us off.
They will be more than happy to sell all the oil they can pump to China & India.
If we wait until that happens it is to late. America must develop it’s own resources at a breakneck pace. The democrats are unwilling to do this. Their attitude is that fossil fuels are evil and America must break it’s addiction. Well it is not so much an addiction like a drug – it is more like the blood that pumps through your body to keep you alive.
The democrats and Obama will do nothing to increase our production. At this pace it will be THE issue that can get Republicans back in control of Congress in 2010.
The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

Sec. Clinton will use this appointment to fill a void in her foreign policy and national security experience she couldn’t get as a junior-Senator.
As Secretary of State, she will have access to classified intelligence that she would not be authorized to receive as the junior-Senator from New York or member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. The release of the unclassified version of the National Intelligence Estimate requires the Secretary’s signature. She will have access to the “original” and the State Department’s own Bureau of Intelligence and Research.
The State Department is rife with career Clinton Appointees who will leak classified information in order to undermine the foreign policy of a sitting president while our country is at war if said foreign policy does not fit their own convoluted world-view.
Sec. Clinton will be among friends, and they will ensure that her hands remain clean.
On the other hand, Pres. Obama will spend the next four-years watching his back, or suffer the consequences. Every foreign policy misstep (some likely manufactured) or diplomatic setback will land squarely at his feet while Sec. Clinton, of course, remains blameless, ie. Powell/Armitage.
Obamamania™ was a minor setback.
Sec. Clinton will bear no responsibility for the 111th Congress, and Pres. Obama remains clueless to the nature of the threat facing the international community.
The electoral results in 2010 and Pres. Obama’s approval numbers around that same time will determine her next move.
Of course, that’s just my opinion.

If things go well at State (a BIG if), she’ll be helping to ensure his re-election in 2012. And if they go poorly, she does herself no good, as she will share the blame for any disasters. Those Clinton friends at State you refer to could turn on her at any time. Their allegiance is to their worldview, not to her.

JLenardDetroit (Diary) Sunday, November 30th at 1:16PM EST (link)There were some Republicans who had spoken of that possibility. Frankly, I was thinking something along those lines myself (but it was ALWAYS going to be up to the Iraqi’s to determine).
My hope was for a “United States of Iraq” solution. Three separate and equal States (like our own, with States’ Rights) and a weak Federal Iraqi National Govt. A separate COUNTRY of Kurdistan was/is forever unacceptable and unworkable for/with Turkey, but an actual “State” within the broader sense I thought might work because the Kurdish area was the least problematic for us and that “State” Govt could have already been in place quickly. As we subdued the other regions their States formed. Then lastly the 3 States coming together to ratify a National Constitution.
We could have then easily negotiated for long-term bases within a Kurdish State. Long term US presence may have eased the concerns of Turkey.
Moot point now, of course.
May not have been workable either, but I thought should have been worth the discussion that never came. Turkey may still have been too afraid a “Kurdistan” State within USI would still break away into an independent country.
