Then I logged onto Hot Air, and I saw Olympia Snowe, saying she is worried the GOP is becoming too hostile toward moderates.

Heh, try the other way around. Most conservatives don’t mind moderates, what we HATE is the contemptous sanctimony that moderates have toward us. That is what turns us off about people like Arlen Specter, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, (and to a lesser extent, but still strong enough) John McCain, and Lindsey Graham. It is what irritates most people about liberal Democrats. They think they’re better and smarter than everyone else and we must all just bow down to them because they’re in charge.

One thing a real conservatives realizes is that the first line of the Constitution means something, “We the People…” . Ask a conservative what they think of Rudy Guiliani, Mitt Romney, and now in California, Meg Whitman. These are all people whom we would have big disagreements about, Rudy and Meg, abortion, Mitt, health care, but they’re conservatism in other areas makes them viable candidates. Rudy is getting alot of conservative support in his potential bid for governor, Meg Whitman is gaining traction in California and while she’s moderate in certain areas for the issues that matter in California: jobs, taxes, education, Meg has all the right ideas. Mitt? Mitt won over many conservatives in 2008 and is one of the leading candidates in 2012 for the Republican nomination for President.

Why do moderates like Rudy, Meg, and Mitt do well? It’s precisely the reason they use their first names in their campaigns. They’ve built familiarity and trust within the conservative movement. They’re acceptable moderates, people who agree with us 80% of the time and want to see the conservative movement succeed and can win in the states where a
