AOL political reporter Mark Impomeni is reporting that Rep. Jose Serrano (D-NY) Is proposing legislation that would abolish the 22nd Amendment, which prevents presidents from seeking more than two terms. He is doing this of course, because Barack Obama is taking the oath of office and the left is absolutely convinced that Obama is going to solve all of their problems. In the last two weeks, I have read fawning articles describing the end of “the worst period in American history” (the left loves to over exaggerate don’t they?), I have read how Obama is going to simultanously, close Gitmo, end the war in Iraq, reverse the Bush tax cuts, and pass Universal Health Care, win the war in Afghanistan, catch Osama Bin Laden, all while having tea with Muhmoud Ahmedinjad, the Castro Brothers, and swiftly ending the war on terror with an inspiring speech in an Islamic capital. (How fitting.)
There are plenty of rational people who voted for Obama, afterall President Bush gave people the impression conservatism was about blanket amnesty for illegal immigrants, soaring budget defceits and out of control spending, and the bail out mess. President Bush has repeatedly said, “I had to abandon my free market principles in order to save the free market.” What? No wonder people threw the election to Obama, at least he was a committed liberal, unlike the spineless Bush and McCain. The people I am talking about are not these people. Obama came off as competent and these non-ideological people were looking for just that, competence.
The people I’m talking about are Obama’s base, the far left fringe. Obama is more than just a President to them now, he is more than the leader of a “progressive” movement. (More on why I think “progressive” is a bunk term later.) Obama has become the reliever of all their troubles. They believe that Obama is going to save the world from itself. They are willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that Obama does what he wants for as long as he wants.
It would be one thing if we had a media that was actually doing it’s job. It’s predictable and even appropriate for the media to be acknowleging the historical significance of the inaugeration of America’s first black president. What is entirely inappropriate is the media banning figures critical of the announced policies of the incoming Obama administration, such as NBC who banned sometimes over the top, but always relevant and entertaining conservative author Ann Coulter “for life” because she criticized Obama. An NBC insider told blogger Matt Drudge, “We are just not interested in anyone so highly critical of President-elect Obama, right now,” explaining that “it’s such a downer. It’s just not the time, and it’s not what our audience wants, either.” I hope that when the Obama administration inevitably drops the ball (as every administration does) NBC is interested in someone critical of President Obama, though I suppose between Olbermann, Matthews, and Maddow they’ll find some way to blame an Obama Administration goof on the Bush administration, or better, Sarah Palin.
We need to mobilize and win. We need to return to timless conservative principles. Create new conservatives, make an effort in 2010 and go all out in 2012. We have got to win and it doesn’t matter if the media hates us for it. They are obsessed with Obama, and I am afraid that if we do not act quickly, his “mandate” for change in this country (and I’m not talking about positive change here) will become larger and larger.

randy streu (Diary) Thursday, January 15th at 2:38PM EST (link)You know, I saw one of those specialty magazines the other day, like the ones that come out to celebrate a movie premier or whatever. Only this was a Special Inauguration Edition. Stories like “restoring hope to America” and “how your life will be better in just one year!”
I nearly threw up right there in the drug store.

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.
Jose Serrano first introduced this bill in 2003. It has nothing to do with Obama. nt
baseketball (Diary) Thursday, January 15th at 2:40PM EST (link)Obama may not be the catalyst, but this bill has everything to do with Obama now that he is President...
Attack Mode (Diary) Thursday, January 15th at 2:44PM EST (link)Now I am not saying that Obama is the reason that the bill is being proposed, but to say it has nothing to do with Obama is not technically correct either. If the 22nd Amendment is repealed then Obama would be the first President since Roosevelt who would not be limited to two terms as President.

The ultimate determinant in the struggle now going on for the world will not be bombs and rockets but a test of wills and ideas-a trial of spiritual resolve: the values we hold, the beliefs we cherish and the ideals to which we are dedicated.

VanishingNYRep (Diary) Thursday, January 15th at 4:40PM EST (link)You worry roo much. The Dems are never going to get the 2/3 votes in the House and Senate to send this to the States. Especially the House. Even if they do, they are never going to get 38 states to ratify it.
The 22nd Amendment is here to stay.
