Co-chairman of House progressive caucus “leaning toward” no vote

If Raúl Grijalva is not posing — and he would not seem to be in a position to have to pose — then this is a huge blow to getting to 216.

The four GOP provisions — some version of tort reform, extra access to health savings accounts, higher Medicaid reimbursements, and undercover patient — all angered him. But the HSAs was the tipping point. (The surest sign that this is not at all about health care, because they would go a long way to solving the problem.)

“The HSAs, in particular, could rankle progressives,” wrote Salon.com. The two liberals who voted against the original House bill, Kucinich and Massa, are still likely no votes. And Grijalva added: “I’m pretty certain there’s more than just two this time.”

Progressives aren’t known for their principled opposition to anything Obama endorses after all.

The only way it wouldn’t be posing is if he’s smart enough to realize that HSAs would probably torpedo what’s left of the Democrat’s support on health care issues.
