we had better get used to these:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Car_Lada_russian.jpg

Background:

"To face the incapacity of the Russian engineers to quickly set up a program of this type, call is made to the Italian government in which the Communist Party is then very influential. Very quickly an agreement is found with FIAT for the construction of an ultramodern factory to which the Italian mark brings know-how and tools. After long studies of incidence the Supreme Soviet decides into 1966 to establish this factory in a vast area timbered at the edge of the Volga, on the territory of the small town of Stavropol, not far from Kouybitchev (today Samara) to a few 1100 km in the south of Moscow."

I should have provided my thoughts for the cost in more detail. As this is only informed and rational reasoning that has brought my urge to post, so let me explain a thought. The fastest way in my opinion to reach the objectives is probably going to be diesel fueled engines. The Europeans have made tremendous strides in this technology to provide power and economy. Good power, torque, and smaller power plants. A little research of the readers part should satisfy that point. The problem here is that the cost of adding a diesel power plant to a vehicle has generally been 3-5k more than a gas plant. Use basic market prices on current trucks for examples. With this model we may still have the option for mid -size vehicles to maintain passenger safety. Course with the Government and UAW pricing our new vehicles..... all bets are off. Especially for GM.

person driving a car. The average person has not yet connected this action with the upcoming passage of Cap&Trade. The result of the two bills will cost every person 5-10 times more than the publicized $1600. Don't forget the electricity to recharge the cars Obama wants us to drive will be costing triple what we are paying now. Add the gasoline tax hike on to the hybrid versions and we will all be paying out thousands more each year for basic transportation and unable to afford to drive 1/2 of what we do now. They seem to think mass transit is available everywhere. 85% of the country lacks suitable mass transit and those that have it do not have the capacity.
"Change" for the worse I say. Nuts to him.
