I have posted many times, we are falling into a trap of finding our "savior". We are being set up. Whether its Palin, Jindal or whoever.

Right now we have to be diversified in our candidates and use trickle up politics. We cannot anoint one candidate and give the MSM over 3 years to load up the weapons.

Why?

Because we do not have the MSM to provide cover.

I really like Palin but she has a slim chance of surviving the MSM "Who's smarter than a fifth grader". Katie Couric just got a freakin award for that!

The reason I like Gingrich is because he can handle the media and put anyone in their place at any time, anywhere.
This guy would wipe the floor w/ anyone in any debate, anywhere.

Just remember Gingrich when he thoroughly spanked a reporter on the RNC convention floor ???

It's unfair but until we have balanced out the media, our candidate has to be much much smarter than the media. That takes decades.

I love Palin and IMHO she has a great contribution to make but I'm not sold on it running against Obama this time around.

Conservatives can really only win by trickle up politics, building a true base. Dems can win by picking a talking head and giving him unprecedented cover by the MSM.

DEMS own the distribution channel(MSM), we don't. We need to "force" product into distribution by customer demand(base).

"the bottom line is that she has to put the effort in to upgrading her understanding of a variety of issues if she is to win the next time around. "

Specifically, which issues do you mean? I hear that so much from so many people; but, I never hear which specific issues they are talking about.

Thanks

and once he secured the nomination, the MSM stopped paying attention to him.

According to them, he was the only Republican who could win and Obama was the only Democrat who could lose... until after the Republican primary was over.

That's when the MSM, ACORN, and other front groups hit the ground running building up their Messiah.

We need to vote smarter instead of listening to what the MSM has to say. It is not our friends.

Because that's what you sound like.

"Prior to the selection of Palin, McCain's campaign wasn't exactly lighting up the Republican base. The names Romney and Pawlenty were generating mostly yawns. Palin's selection electrified the base like no other candidate on a GOP ticket since Reagan. It caused many wary and dispirited conservatives to reconcile with the top of the ticket. Even though the media onslaught against her may have had an effect on the ticket's final numbers, I'm not sure there's any evidence that those numbers would've been higher had someone else been the VP nominee. My guess is the reverse is true."

- Peter Kirsanow

*
Sixty-nine percent (69%) of Republican voters say Alaska Governor Sarah Palinhelped John McCain’s bid for the presidency, even as news reports surface that some McCain staffers think she was a liability.

Only 20% of GOP voters say Palin hurt the party’s ticket, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Six percent (6%) say she had no impact, and five percent (5%) are undecided.

Ninety-one percent (91%) of Republicans have a favorable view of Palin, including 65% who say their view is Very Favorable. Only eight percent (8%) have an unfavorable view of her, including three percent (3%) Very Unfavorable.

When asked to choose among some of the GOP’s top names for their choice for the party’s 2012 presidential nominee, 64% say Palin. The next closest contenders are two former governors and unsuccessful challengers for the presidential nomination this year -- Mike Huckabee of Arkansas with 12% support and Mitt Romney of Massachusetts with 11%.

Three other sitting governors – Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Charlie Crist of Florida and Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota – all pull low single-digit support.

These findings echo a survey earlier this week which found that Republicans were happier with their vice presidential candidate than with their presidential nominee. Seventy-one percent (71%) said McCain made the right choice by picking Palin as his running mate, while only 65% said the party picked the right nominee for president.

- Rasmussen Reports - 11/7/08

But if you have some evidence that Palin "cost McCain the election," by all means present it to us. Otherwise, you're just another troll.

is set up for children not to work until they are adults. It can be impossible for a teen especialy a girl to find a job in a big city. This is the kind of attitude that fustrates me, it's totally unrealistic. The teenage mothers with parents to live are not the ones that would even apply for AFDC anyway. Maybe they would apply for mediciad but that is it. AFDC/TANF is hardly anything, but $250 a month is still more than $0. This is one reason why SOOO many girls end up moving in with boyfriends, because our society is set up for parental support even after being legal age. Without parents to help them with things like a place to live, signing an apartment lease (many won't lease before age 21), getting a license, etc there are real obstacles, not just for teenage parents but for all kids without parental support and guidance, you know just having one adult constantly watching out for them and being there for them.

I agree with you are PP and how evil they are.

Newt was right. As long as they were under age, their parents were and should be responsible. Indeed, why those of us who managed our zippers and hormones should ever have been made to support those who couldn't and didn't was an injustice happening.

The Democrat exploitation of this issue is one that disgusts me. They support Planned Parenthood who never refers under age pregnant girls to the authorities for sexual exploitation. They encourage children to depend upon the state so that they can never think of doing anything except voting for the party of substitute "daddy or husband" government.

The only real answer to poverty is work, something difficult to do if you have a dependent child and no spousal or family support. The Democrats are willing to pay for poverty because the poor are to dumb not to vote for them.

Take civil truth's challenge.

It's a good idea. We need to come up with good ideas to strengthen "compassionate" side of the Conservatives.

Your two posts above sans Newt offers some eye-openers on the plight of the teen mothers. Our party can be a strong advocate in supporting the teen moms, the disabled, etc.

You really should try to write up a diary about a conservative approach to the vulnerable people like teen moms who truly need help and protection that is an alternative to failed welfare policies (that the Dems are resurrecting) that destroy families and initiative and create a corrosive subculture.

Too often conservatives look the other way - but we can't afford to abdicate to liberal big-government approaches; we need to find an alternative approach that can utilize private resources.

Or at least come up with a start towards an alternative as a springboard for discussion...

to teenage mothers were horrible. Teenage mothers are more vulnerable than anyone else. It's almost impossible to find a job in a big city as a teen. The dems were right to criticize him over that, unfortunately they have crazy solutions too. . I don't understand why we don't have good republican leadership when it comes to these kinds of family and poverty issues.

I keep hearing about the religious right.

I keep hearing about a stranglehold.

Would you be so good as to define "religious right" for me? Can you explain how they control the Republican party? And can you please tell me who in the Republican leadership you'd define as "religious right"?

Thank you.

He help destroy the lives of so many children that were placed in state care. He was in a powerful position too and could have worked to protect children. I don't understand how republicans are for these type of anti-family policies pushed by the feminist socialist types.

with this continued Palin support. I simply don't understand it. I don't know where the answer lies, but we can surely do better. She cost McCain the presidency, and turned even solid conservatives with last names like Goldwater, Reagan, Ford, Eisenhower and Buckley (just to name a few) into Obama voters.

It's gonna take Independent voters to win national elections, I do know that, and this stranglehold the religious right has over our party is going to be the death of it.
