Voters are not buying the Democrat stimulus plan

Public support for the stimulus plan being kicked around in Congress continues to erode. Results from a new Rasmussen Reports survey released today shows that only 37% of those polled now favor the Democrat’s idea of stimulus, while 43% oppose it and 20% cannot make up their minds.

Just two weeks ago, 45% supported the plan. Last week, 42% favored it.

Even though sixty-four percent (64%) of Democrats still support the plan, that figure is down from the 74% who favored it just a week ago. Only 13% of Republicans and 27% of independents like the stimulus.

Opposition has risen from 34% two weeks ago to 39% last week and 43% today. This public trend should encourage Senate Republicans who oppose the stimulus, and it should be food for thought for those GOP Senators who want something from President Obama in exchange for going along with this terrible excuse for a shot in the economy’s arm. Many Americans worry that Doctor Democrat’s cure could be worse than the sickness. According to Rassmussen:

Related survey data shows that half the nation’s voters say the plan that finally emerges from Congress may end up doing more harm than good.

It appears that voters may be experiencing buyers remorse over their election season embrace of government as a problem solver. Forty-six percent (46%) of them fear that the government will overreach in trying to fix the country’s economic problems.

Scott Rasmussen says that his survey results are close to those of a recent Gallup Poll which reported that only 38% now support the stimulus. Gallup’s survey found that 37% wanted major modifications made to the legislation before they could support it, and 17% voiced the opinion that Congress should reject the bill entirely.

For his part, the president is pulling out all of the stops to sell this obamanation of a stimulus plan. He’s making a desperate appeal to his most ardent supporters to help him out. What are you going to do about this? Are your senators paying attention? Perhaps you should contact them with a friendly advisory of your own opinion on the stimulus. Quote Rasmussen and Gallup to let them know you’re quite aware that you don’t stand alone.

At least I haven’t heard a whole lot of tough talk from them yet on this boondoggle spending bill — just a lot of whining that they need to do *something.*

No, we don’t! The market economy works best when government stays out of it, and government interference has made this downturn a lot bigger than it had to be.

Don’t just do something! Stand there! (And preferably stand for something).
