Palin has NOT filed for a 2012 presidential run

How do we know? Well, we actually bothered to call the FEC for confirmation of what this page on its website is all about. Some folks were getting a little carried away on the web over this.

Turns out that this is just a dummy page for the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee, a grassroots PAC which has filed on Gov. Palin’s behalf. That organization has no official connection to Sarah Palin. This is standard operating procedure for political action committees, especially “draft” PACs. That committee’s actual listing will appear on the FEC website tomorrow in place of the dummy listing.

None of this, by the way, has anything to do with SarahPAC, which we reported on this morning. SarahPAC is Governor Palin’s political action committee. When a politician establishes such an organization, it does not necessarily mean that he or she intends to run for office, but all candidates who do run for office and hope to have any chance of being competitive do so. Some do so just to raise money for other candidates or to promote a position on issues about which they have a strong interest.

It’s easy to see how the timing of the filing by the draft PAC, with the dummy page FEC put up on its website for it, and the debut of the webpage for Sarah Palin’s PAC launched some people’s rockets. But, as they used to teach in J-school, check your sources and get confirmation, which is what we did. Some people need to just calm down and let the story unfold. There’s still a long way to go to 2012, and we have to go through 2010 to get there.

I am not saying it is but I know Fred Thompson’s wife is somehow involved with Team Sarah??? Just a thought.

screwed up in how they handled Palin’s image.

No one on here wants to admit it, but the socialists succeeded in permanently smearing her national image. It’s not fair, but she’s damaged goods now and nothing short of a time machine is going to reverse that.

Forget Palin. Give me Jindal. Palin would be a disaster.

She's no Quayle. We fought back this time.

When she was picked I said it was a mistake

docdaneeka (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 8:10PM EST (link)

because she hadn’t even completed her first term as governor, she had a small track record for the Vice Presidency, and was a essentially a blank canvas.

Well, guess what. The liberals succeeded in painting that canvas because McCain was so inept that he couldn’t even defend basic conservative positions, let alone a woman the media saw as a ditz.

If Palin runs in 2012 we will spend the entire election trying to convince people that she isn’t as stupid as they think she is.

Is that fair?

No, but it’s reality. Sooner people around here grasp that the better.

Where did you say that?

She’s a true conservative and as a Catholic (a real one) I deeply admire her pro-life stances.

The big picture, however, is that we wasted her on a pseudo-Democrat like McCain.

In fairness, however, she didn’t exactly help herself. Her interviews were complete failures.

yeah but the fix was in on those interviews...

Attack Mode (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 8:52PM EST (link)

in fact the fix was in on Palin from the get go….all of the rumors and innuendos about her during the campaign were started by her McCain appointed handler, who was a personal friend of Katie Cuoric…as well that specific interview was cut and slice to purposefully distort her image as a serious conservative.

There is no doubt the media was out to smear her at all costs. However, she didn’t help herself out a lot of times either.

Having said that though, why WASN’T the Republican Party ready to fight that? She played right into the liberal narrative for her, and it’s like our spineless party did nothing to stop it.

Look, it’s sad what happened to her, but make no mistake, it did happen. It wouldn’t just be an uphill battle. It would be an upmountain battle, and that’s without even counting all the Liberal vote-buying we already have to compete with.

Well doc...

Attack Mode (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 9:04PM EST (link)

I would say that it was McCain’s fault because he essentially controlled the party mechanisms at that time…

As far as the upmountain battle….that is going to be like that no matter the candidate…like I said downthread if we throw her, or any other conservative, under the bus for that we will end up with another McCain run….or worse..Lindsey Graham

Our fight was because you wanted party purity and I wanted someone like Meg Whitman who I saw as a lesser evil than allowing Obama (a socialist) to win.

Where I’ve changed my mind is that, after watching spineless, liberal Republicans (Bush, McCain, etc) ruin the image of conservative ideals, I’ve realized that liberal Republicans are far more damaging than actual liberals. I’ve completely flipped to your position, I admit.

When liberals win, their crap eventually causes massive problems that catches up with them. When liberal Republicans win, they cause these same problems but allow conservatism to get blamed for it even though nothing they were doing had anything to do with being conservative.

Conservative ideals, unlike liberal ones, actually work. Allowing them to be discredited by RINO’s who don’t even practice them is far more damaging long term than any one liberal winning an election, in my new and humble opinion.

That is great doc...

Attack Mode (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 9:29PM EST (link)

Glad that our argument wasn’t for naught then….I hope in all the screaming I managed to help you come to your new position.

One quibble though…I don’t really want “purity”, not every Republican needs to be a conservative…I want unity…every Republican should respect conservatism for what it can do for us…..conservatism is the basis for the party, moderates are welcome as long as they don’t actively try to drag the entire party leftward.

Palin is premature

I think Palin is doing tremendous things in her career and would be a great pick…in a few years.

I agree with her on her stances and she was someone I thought would be great for us down the road.

She’s not ready though. This isn’t going to play well.

They are thrusting her onto the national scene too soon. When I said that Obama is way too inexperienced for the presidency I meant it, and I can’t look at you with a straight face and say she’s any different.

McCain needed someone who was ready to step in case he bit the dust. She isn’t it.

docdaneeka (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 9:28PM EST (link)

Those other things can be fended off with facts.

A person’s image–especially their first impression to others–is extremely difficult to fix.

Besides, if we are already going to have to fight off those other things (like the inevitable race card), then why handicap ourselves with a candidate so many people think is stupid?

Those other things can be fended off with facts

olsmithie (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 9:38PM EST (link)

You have the floor.

Please educate us.

Sure.

docdaneeka (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 9:56PM EST (link)

1) “You’re a racist.”

If nothing can be produced to show it, then you point it out. Then you maintain the high ground at all costs, point out how they are trying to spread hate and divide Americans, and remind people how the race card was used to force subprime mortgaging on banks.

2) “Big Oil is rigging prices.”

Explain how the free market works and supply and demand. Point out that despite this bs argument in 2008, the prices dropped as soon as the demand did.

3) “You guys are just buddy buddy with Big Business.”

The free market is the greatest producer of wealth in history. It creates the jobs that we need. We are losing businesses in this country because it is regulated to death (see the Pay Discrimination Bill coming out tonight for a current example) and no one wants to pay for the massive taxes of a bloated welfare state. This country has never been successful with central planning in the past–no one has–and we don’t need it now.

4) “Palin is a huge ditz. I can’t even think about her without laughing. Do you remember her interview with Couric? LOL!”

Us: but, but it was all rigged! She’s really smart! Really!

Liberalism/socialism causes MAJOR problems. It caused the subprime debacle and it also put us in a position where we are 50 trillion dollars short of the entitlements they promised. Instead of scurrying from 1-3 like we’ve done since Reagan, we should stand and fight.

Liberalism/socialism simply doesn’t work. The evidence is ample. This is a fight we shouldn’t be afraid of.

Pretty good responses, well thought out

olsmithie (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 10:38PM EST (link)

No disrespect intended, but I looked over wintergreen a bit and I see sincerity, but a definite anti Palin bias back in August, which is also fine. To each his own. You have your reasons and others have their reasons to support her.

The reason I asked the question of your “I disagree” post is because I wasn’t quite sure what “other things” you had in mind. Thanks for clarifying that, and with the exception of 4), I see where you are coming from. Not sure if that (4) is a real answer or a sarcasm, but then I know how intelligent the lady is.
No condemnation, just hard to tell your intent.

You know exactly what you mean in each post, If you care to put just a little extra detail in the replies,(like you did this one), others will be able to pick up your meaning quicker with less chance of misunderstanding. I saw where wintergreen had some controversies that really were more misunderstandings.

Hope that helps,

docdaneeka (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 10:50PM EST (link)

We just have to be willing to stand by them, rather than trying to join in the vote-buying fun (Democrat-lites) and corrupting ourselves in the process.

By the way, I had no anti-Palin bias. The quote above from me that Aaron Gardner posted is exactly what I think.

I think she is a true conservative, a very bright politician, and an amazing human being. I thought she had awesome potential, but our party rushed her and then badly mishandled what they were faced with.

I WANTED Palin for 2012 before she ran with McCain. I thought she was an up-and-coming star in our farm league (baseball reference) who wasn’t quite ready for the major leagues.

Now, I simply think the damage done to her image is too costly. We have enough worries without handicapping ourselves with her image issues.

Look slick, Palin got elected Governor running against

Look at Richard Nixon, VP turned failed presidential candidate turned failed California gubernatorial candidate. Remember “You won’t have Richard Nixon to kick around any more”?

Yeah, no way he could ever come back and win 2 presidential elections.

Our comeback should be “Yeah, she did one bad interview (four) years ago, so what, did you see her last night?”

You forget that half the people that utter comments like your hypotheticals are looking for a reason to dislike her; if it’s not one trivial thing it’s another, or they’ll just start making up crap and criticize her for that (snopes has a whole page of this stuff).

So relax and give her a chance.

Let’s get down to brass tacks here. How much for the ape?

Well, let's look at all four of your points

David123 (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 10:52PM EST (link)

1. “You’re a racist” – Sarah Palin married a mixed race man – how unracist/nonracist /race-is-totally-irrelevant does she have to get?

2. “Big oi is rigging prices” Sarah Palin has taken a hard line in dealing with big oill. If you want to put a leash on Big Oil, the best way to do it is to unleash the pitbull who wears lipstick.

3. “You guys are just buddy buddy with Big Business.” Big oil is big business in Alaska – Sarah Palin’s record shows she’s a LONG way from being buddy-buddy with them. Sarah Palin’s life shows she’s got experience and understanding of small business which is a major creator of innovation and jobs.

4. Well lets see how she does on other interviews and speechs between now and 2012 – do you really think one poor interview should disqualify a person from being president? And by 2012, the Couric interview will be ancient history – of course, if we want to talk about ancient history in 2012 , we could talk about an interview … and we could also talk about a 20-year pattern of attending church where the pastor curses America.

I edited one of the original “Put the stained blouse in the washer” commercials at ch 7 in Spartanburg many moons ago.
It came out looking new, because it was new. Stained blouse was never washed. New blouse and good edit, just like new.

Couric’s ilk has editing tools now that we couldn’t even envision in the old days.

The interview may have been great, but by the time Couric’s crew got through butchering it, you would never know. She is the Dan Rather of the present day crowd.

MSM would have done this to her any way. She and we know what her shortcomings are ane what must be done to correct them. She has been more thoroughly vetted than any candidate in history; if MSM had any more dirt on her, it would have used it. I agree that the McCain team really hurt her.

You have to remember that she is up in Alaska. It’s hard to get noticed. Without the VP nomination, she wouldn’t be the one every GOP candidate wants to help him/her in 2010. Sarah wouldn’t have an army of 100,000 plus that are ready to work their hearts for her. She wouldn’t have the massive funds that are coming her way.

olsmithie (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 9:04PM EST (link)

Irregardless of the candidate the Republicans promote, the LibMedia will do everything in their power to destroy them, including any new ones in 2012.
If folks haven’t figured that out by now , they really need a brain tonic of some sort.
The Media are in bed with the liberals, as all the regulars here are aware of. (I think even dead people are aware of that fact, it’s so obvious.i.e. ‘Tingle up my leg-Matthews’)

The more the LibMedia berates her, the more dangerous you know she is to the socialists… If she was no threat like about half the Republican Senators, for example, the LibMedia would not spend so much time trying to destroy her.

The louder the media howls, the more sure you can be she has conservative roots. The crowds she draws demonstrates there is something there.

Don’t sell her short.

Couric is the one who is "damaged goods." Who knows if she'll still be on the news

janis (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 11:09PM EST (link)

in 2012. CBS has lost a lot of their news audience since they made her their anchor. I’m betting that Sarah Palin will be a national name long after “Katie Who?” is chosen to host some talk show for women. Maybe she can take Oprah’s place when Oprah retires–and then we will be rid of that show forever as Couric doesn’t have what it takes to sustain an audience’s interest.

Speaking of Oprah, I wonder what her ratings have been...

Elizabeth Christian (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 11:27PM EST (link)

since Obama, I quit watching her (even though I was at work most of the time when she was on) and a lot of people I know quit watching her. How does one go about getting these ratings? I would be interested to see if this has hurt her? The drive bys will never tell it if it has hurt her.

I heard a poll recently, don't know which one, that listed Oprah as below Judge Judy in popularity these days.

janis (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 11:31PM EST (link)

She hurt herself with her support for Obama, her dismissing the chance to have Sarah Palin on her show, and then her intimate dinner with Obama the night before the inauguration.

But what really hurt her ratings was her support for some New Age religion and its pratictioner, whoever that is. I haven’t watched Oprah in some 10 years, so I’m not up on all the names of those who have entranced her over the years. She also made some really poor choices of books to endorse as the authors were outed as total frauds.

Serves her right.

Palin has the "it" factor to go toe-to-toe with the media

6eorge Jetson (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 8:57PM EST (link)

And don’t be surprised if by 2012 there isn’t another significant conservative upstart cable channel that would love to draw ratings by picking a fight w/ the MSM.

The other point to keep in mind is that four years is a long time

How many here had heard of Jindal or Palin in Nov 2004?

Not me.

only 1/2 way

JoeG Wednesday, January 28th at 12:15AM EST (link)

I’m a big Jindal fan, but I strongly disagree with you on Palin.

Her support is huge and it’s grass roots.

“I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I’ve learned quickly, these past few days, that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone.

But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion — I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country. Americans expect us to go to Washington for the right reasons, and not just to mingle with the right people.”

That is powerful for two reasons. It resonates with the right people. and simultaneously makes the right people deeply offended.

Well, yeah, Sarah Palin in front of Juneau

Achance (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 8:01PM EST (link)

scenery kinda says Gov. Palin didn’t have much to do with that site. She’s not much on Juneau.

Just for the record, the background is the view of the Mendenhall Valley and Glacier from somewhere around Brotherhood Bridge (spanning the Mendenhall River). I live about two-thirds of the way to the Glacier from where the photographer is standing and right at the base of the mountains on the right. In winter when there’s no leaves on the cottonwoods and willows, those mountains above the Glacier are the view out of my living room and MBR windows.

Your view must be stupendous. I’ve got a nice mountain view from my house, but even with snow, our Arizona mountains don’t quite match up with Alaska’s!

You’re probably right, she must have had little input on the photo. But it certainly is a nice one, and the way they blended her “out of the grass” is cool. I especially like the USA outline with Alaska “cut out” of it. Really helps put Alaska’s size into perspective for us outsiders.

Would love to go there someday!

That map is to scale.

Achance (Diary) Wednesday, January 28th at 1:28AM EST (link)

That is the size of Alaska when superimposed over the Continental US.

What do you think of Tom Irwin giving Exxon the go at one of the Pt. Thompson sites?

Hell is other people – Sartre

I think the "failure to perform" on the lease

Achance (Diary) Wednesday, January 28th at 1:25AM EST (link)

argument just went down the tubes. Trying to take that lease away was one thing when Murkowski was Governor and Ted Stevens was in a position to rain Hell on Exxon. Now, the advantage is all Exxon. At minimum they can tie up the lease recission for twenty years like they did the Exxon Valdez damages.

So, maybe now we make a virtue of necessity and see if we can make nice with Exxon. Maybe we make nice with all three of them and see if we can beg convincingly enough to get them to actually do anything here. Hubris has a price.

When people get broke enough, and their wealth has been spread

Elizabeth Christian (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 10:23PM EST (link)

the GOP (as long as it is a TRUE CONSERVATIVE and NOT a RINO) will look a whole lot better to Americans I think. 2-4 years of Obama/Pelosi/Reid if that does not wake America up then God bless our Nation and I will miss America because our Nation will have met it’s end of Americans cannot wake up after this mess that is being created (and we are just at week 1)!!!

By the way - Palin = true conservative

Elizabeth Christian (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 10:24PM EST (link)

and I think she will be a strong contender in 2012. If the right people are around her and she is not surrounded by idiots like who were surrounding her this past time then she can WIN!!!

McCain's people struggling to keep Palin from looking better than him

olsmithie (Diary) Tuesday, January 27th at 10:47PM EST (link)

did not help McCain or Palin. An impossible task, BTW.

Heaven help us if we ever let the New York Times pick our candidate again.

Well, they certainly succeeded in keeping McCain
