Governor Sarah Palin will deliver her State of the State address at 7 p.m. Alaska time (10 p.m. CST) tonight. The ADN Political Blog says there were rumors around Juneau that the governor hired a professional speechwriter to draft what will be her third State of the State presentation.
Palin communications director Bill McAllister says that is not the case, but some friends did volunteer some of their own time to help with the first draft.
McAllister said he doesn’t know who they are:
“It’s her speech.”
The spokesman also revealed that Gov. Palin has made significant revisions in the last few days and may even be doing some fine tuning of it while she rehearses the speech. McAllister added:
“It’s her first conversation with the entire Legislature since last year, so it certainly can set a tone, a vision of where she wants to go.”
Many Alaskans will be watching to hear what the governor has to say about the state’s budget, according to the Juneau Empire:
Gubernatorial spokeswoman Sharon Leighow said she expects Palin to address the budget in the speech.
Declining prices paid for the state’s oil has left Alaska facing a shortfall in next year’s budget, based on current spending levels.
Unlike her previous two State of the State addresses, this one is drawing national attention now that Gov. Palin has become something of a rock star. It may be first State of the State address delivered by an Alaska governor to be covered by the Washington Post, which has reportedly sent a reporter and a photographer to the 49th state to cover the story.
The speech will be broadcast across Alaska, and interested web surfers can view a live stream of the speech via the Gavel to Gavel Alaska network courtesy of public television station KTOO.

How's Obama going to do better?
tankertodd (Diary) Thursday, January 22nd at 10:01PM EST (link)Perhaps he’ll dupe them like he duped the ignorant majority in this country. Obama sure couldn’t stand up to Putin when he invaded Georgia. He cowered like a girl for days while McCain took an immediate stand.
Obama is a girlie man. But at least he knows the price of arugula.

I've never understood
redneck_hippie (Diary) Thursday, January 22nd at 9:57PM EST (link)why it is that it is considered so important whether or not a public figure writes their own speeches. Some are good at writing and some are good at public speaking. It is not always the case where one is very good at both.
What matters to me is that the speaker is telling the truth in the speech, not that he created the actual words said.
Splat!

Back to the speech
SteveLA (Diary) Thursday, January 22nd at 10:39PM EST (link)Did you listen to it and what were your take?
I’ve never heard Palin give a strait speech on how the State of Alaska is doing, missed listening to this one. It would be interesting to see what her vision for governing Alaska in these lower oil price days.

We’ll see. Those were some pretty words and she has an all new image. Let’s see what the Legislature will actually pass.

Alaskans are sooo friggin nice.
newagegop (Diary) Thursday, January 22nd at 11:44PM EST (link)I watched the legislators prior to the speech, our beloved Sarah, and the Dem response and I’ve got to say the fact that Sarah survived national politics is amazing. To jump from that to hardball bias MSM coverage is a testiment to the natural talent and guts Sarah Palin has.
Those were some of the nicest plain spoken politicians I’ve ever heard. I’m sure there’s a ton of political crap that goes back and forth but dag gummit they were unnaturally civil to one another. It’s a real shame that national politics can’t function like Alaska did today.
I’m still convinced that if Sarah Palin can’t be America’s president, then it’s frankly because our nation no longer deserves national politicians like Sarah. Our culture, our society just might not be good enough for her. We deserve what we get and a people that can no longer provide for themselves need masters to provide for them.
Let me tell you
AKSteveB (Diary) Friday, January 23rd at 12:29AM EST (link)you don’t want national politics to ever function like Alaska politics. Alaska politics, for both parties, is an incestuous clusterf**k (and I mean that in a literal sense with some of them, they’ve had cops called when one drunken legislator got violent with the married to someone else legislator she was boinking). It’s entertaining, and there is enough oil money to muddle along, but we’d be eaten for lunch if it happened that way at a national level.
