You, um, didn't happen to notice the cutting of other spending she's doing to pay for it and to allow for significantly reduced revenues, did you?

My only issue with her budget is that it assumes an almost $80/bbl oil price average. That's not realistic and she needs to get on top of it now that she's back home.

(hey, sweet reply change!)

Anyway, 2012 is a long way away and we need to fight over 2010 first. Don't put any 2012 stickers or pins on at all...

I think there are a lot of current "republicans" that simply need to go. We need to cut out the "moderates" and otherwise start defending our own ones instead of running away. Liberals never stay out of a fight, but we seem to be scared of entering who we really are.

There is NO WAY I am backing anything but a REAL conservative next election. even if Obama resussects Karl Marx and puts him as VEEP, I wouldn't vte for another phony republican candidate, no way.

The republican leadership needs to behead a few people after this disaster-election or make themselves further irrelevant in 2010.

So Crist walks around like an arrogant jerk, thinks he has the popularity and and polls sewn up. Palin et al please do not listen to people like this. Our govener has put our state and it's people in a very precarious situation. I am sure that he takes quite a couple of drinks during Hurricane season. Yes I did vote for Crist because I thought he may have some new ideas or search them out in regards to property tax. Possibly live up to the promise of lowering insurance premiums. None to both of these, I mean not even an intelligent plan, so what did he do, he made the state run insurer, Citizens, larger than any other property insurer carrier in the country with over $59 billion of exposure. What this means is that if a large Hurricane hits a highly populated area such as South Florida or Tampa, that the state will not be able to pay for the resulting loses. Crist's only hope is for a Federal bailout and his CFO Alex Sink has admitted to as much in writing. Pathetic. People just don't know it's coming. So who pays for this....you..me..the taxpayers
No don't look to Crist for answers on what should the GOP should do, pandering to groups is insulting although Crist feels he is very good at this, living in his own mind.
We Conservatives have a simple principle life liberty and pursuit of happiness. We don't need to pander to each and every group because being responsible monetarliy and socially, strikes a chord in every American no matter what race, gender or orientation.
This is why Palin strikes a chord in many of us, she walks the talk she lives it and we see it. No Sarah be yourself you will succed beyond any of these obstacles we are pulling for you. They fear you because you stand for something and they for nothing except power which apparently is a stronger temptation than money.

Can we just focus on more pressing matters now? Palin was absolutely correct to say that right now, we need to reorganize and start looking at the next set of elections (which are not in 2012) and hold the Democrats responsible for what happens over the next few years? So let's focus on fighting the bad policies that are going to come up over the next few years and start fighting during LOCAL govt elections. I live in VA. For a red state turned blue, we have an appaling number of Dems in local leadership positions (which are stepping-stones for bigger jobs). Rather than attack either McCain or Palin (who both had excellent credentials as well as a few drawbacks and media armies charging after them) or picking out who we should nominate in FOUR years, let's talk about what is happening right now and making sure we do not allow the Dems to totally mess this country up...

Why are so many people talking about re-running McCain's campaign?

He ran as a moderate to appeal to Blue state voters, and by the convention he had already lost.

Pawlenty and Crist would be the same from the way they're positioning themselves.

then I despair for our electorate. Thinking about the coming 4 years of Marxist wealth redistribution, capitulation to our enemies, denigration of our Armed Services and slaughter of countless numbers of unborn has me nearly in tears. If in 4 years time American don't realize what a horrible mistake they've made and wholly repudiate his sham administration in favor of a true Conservative then I don't know what I'll do with myself. Gov. Palin already has more experience than he does, she's got the magnetic personality to energize the base and bring in new voters and in 4 years time she'll make a truly formidable candidate.

We may spend the text two or four years arguing about the best conservative candidate. But the sooner we make up our mind, the more effective will be our support and hence the chance of succeeding. True, we don't have all the facts about the four true conservative: Palin, Jindhal, Barbour, Sanford. They are not perfect, but the sooner we get behind two of them and start helping them build a strong support from the base the better.
Since the possible new faces that may prop up will be too young, and since personality matters a great deal, I would say Palin/Jindhal is the best bet. Rather than spending our energy in testing and retesting them, let's start helping them.

She has had an extraordinary career, and I'm glad she was put on the ticket this year. It's too bad she had to run with McCain, but I think she can shake that off. Sarah Palin has a cult-worthy personality, and I think it's a good sign that people stick up for her. It goes without saying that if she isn't the best person for the job in four years, then people can make up their own mind.

There is nobody in the party who excites me like Palin, though. I am not interested in Romney or Huckabee at all. I'll stop there.

But the rough treatment Palin took this year was unparalleled. Families are supposedly off-limits, and I don't think Romney was even called a bad parent. Palin has dealt with the attacks very graciously, I thought, and it desserved to be pointed out.

It makes no sense whatsoever to try to pander to the non-existent moderate voter. If we clearly state our principled position on the issues and then govern by them, we'll win.

let me remind you of what happened in MD-1. There, the moderate Republican incumbent, Wayne Gilchrest, was defeated in the primary by conservative Andy Harris, who was backed by the Club for Growth. Harris subsequently lost the general election to Democrat Frank Kratovil. This in a district in which Gilchrest won with 65 - 70% of the vote the last few times out and which is a R+10 district.

Do you want to lose the Florida Senate seat too?

about the suggestion in my last paragraph. And you're correct that Obama's fortunes could change quickly (remember Bush41!).

We should pick the best candidate among those available. But our "best" candidates should be cautious about entering a race against a popular incumbent, even if those fortunes could possibly change. I'm just concerned that if we nominate one of our "stars" to run against a potentially popular Obama in 2012, a landslide defeat could hurt (or even kill) that candidate's chances in 2016 or beyond.

Maybe I'm being too pessimistic. I'm sure that Palin, Jindal, etc. could do better even against a popular Obama than, say, Mondale against a popular Reagan. But if Obama has a successful first term, it's hard to imagine him doing worse in 2012 than in 2008. And if Palin were to be the nominee and lose in 2012, I think many Republicans would be reluctant to stick her on a 3rd consecutive ticket.

We should nominate the best person we can in every election cycle. Obama could look unbeatable in 2011 but end up very vulnerable in 2012, as per George H. Bush in 1991 vs. 1992.

Trying to set up the future with a sacrificial lamb, or nominating someone because it's their turn is a fool's errand, at least at the presidential level.

We need candidates that can clearly explain their conservative ideals and why they are superior to lib "solutions".

Someone has to stop reacting to polls and get their message out and explain it and draw people in.

The main problem with your post is that what she's done with the oil companies in Alaska is not remotely like a windfall profits tax. The companies are free to sign the proposed contract she offers or walk away, not an option for an oil company subject to a WPT.

She sounded convincingly conservative in the campaign, far more so than McCain but I too would want a lot more info on her record and views before I'd support her on the top of the ticket. I was a Romney supporter too and what they did to him was almost as bad as the smearing they did to Palin. The more the beltway GOP and RINOs attack her the more we like her but that effect will fade and we can look at her objectively. I hope she's all that she appears to be and if so she'll get my support for any office she seeks.

In my view the reason we got McCain in the first place is that many states let non-Republicans skew the primary results. Without their support on super-Tuesday he'd have left the race long ago. If we do anything before 2012 it should be to get the state GOP parties to change this to prevent a repeat of this disaster. If you switch just before the primary or are unaffiliated, why should you be allowed to vote in our primary?
