Sen. Barack Obama’s website still insists that unrepentant domestic terrorist Bill Ayers is just a “mainstream” college professor. Ironically, that whopper appears in a section of the site labelled “Fact Check” and as a quote attributed to the Associated Press. Don’t be surprised if it is scrubbed from the website soon. I recommend that one for caching just in case…
Millions of mainstream Americans will be at a loss to see how these remarks, delivered by Ayers to the 2006 World Education Forum in Caracas, Venezuela, are in any way consistent with their own views:
Capitalism promotes racism and militarism – turning people into consumers, not citizens…
Viva Presidente Chavez! Viva La Revolucion Bolivariana! Hasta La Victoria Siempre!
I’m wondering how many mainstream Americans consider the Marxist dictator Hugo Chavez to be their “comrade” and amigo. You decide. The full speech is posted on Ayers’ own website at the link provided above. On another page, he proclaims:
“On the death penalty, I’m an abolitionist; on education and health care, a universalist; on economic growth, a minimalist, while on economic policy, a socialist…”
Economic socialism is mainstream? Who knew?
On yet another page, Ayers suggests:
Every citizen should oppose the presence of the military in our public schools.
Is this opinion mainstream? Not for the hundreds of thousands of parents of JROTC students, obviously, but consider that the overwhelming majority of Americans still admire our military. According to a 2006 Gallup Poll, when asked to name which American institutions inspired the most confidence, 73% of the respondents listed the military, placing it at the very top of the list.
What kind of reading material does the “mainstream” Bill Ayers recommend? According to one of his blog posts, Granny Made Me an Anarchist by “the rarest of revolutionaries” Stuart Christie, is “essential reading” for anyone searching for a moral compass.
But we need not limit ourselves to Bill Ayers’ blog for insights into his “mainstream” views. At Allah’s hotair.com, we are reminded of Ayers’ opinion that the Vietnam War justified the use of violence by he and his fellow Weather Underground terrorists:
The particular crisis we faced with the Vietnam War was a crisis that called on us to escalate, to resist in more intense and, and, uh, uh, in more extreme ways.
Even the New York Times, which in recent times has tried to downplay the radicalism of Ayers and his even more radical wife Bernadine Dohrn, led off a 2001 story about Ayers’ lack of regret for the bombings he and his comrades planned and carried out, leads with this chilling quote from the now sedate (or so we are being led to believe by the “mainstream” media) college professor:
“I don’t regret setting bombs,” Bill Ayers said. “I feel we didn’t do enough.”
This is what Barack Obama, currently the leading candidate in the contest for the office of President of the United States, considers to be in the mainstream of our great and beloved nation.
Real mainstream Americans should not be afraid of this lack of judgment on Obama’s part. They should be terrified.

new campaign strategy
RedRobin Sunday, October 5th at 5:36PM EST (link)I have to question the McCain/Palin campaign’s recent strategy of attempting to tie Senator Obama to a radical from the 60’s who for whatever reason was never actually convicted of a crime, and for many voters is a virtual unknown. I think efforts would be better spent focusing on platform differences that would attract independents. Also, this strategy could backfire by opening the door to the liberal msm to bring up the senate investigation of Senator McCain in the 80’s for his ties to Paul Keating and that whole Keating 5 Savings and Loan scandal. There is lots of archival footage that could be exploited showing the McCains traveling and vacationing with Keating and of Keating being carted off to jail. Given the current vaguely related sub-prime mortgage/financial crisis, that footage resurfacing all over the airwaves couldn’t help the campaign. The base may dismiss this coverage as liberal demagoguery, but independents might not ignore it.
How they get the 95%
nina584 Sunday, October 5th at 5:38PM EST (link)That means that people who don’t pay taxes are to get money. Just like they were willing to give the stimulus check to the 30% that don’t pay taxes and the Reps stopped them

The entire point of my post is that Obama shows extemely poor judgment – not the sort that we expect in our chief executive – by considering Ayers to be in the mainstream.

Many people who were in high school in the 1960s know exactly who Ayers is and exactly what his group did. Weathermen records are available online. There’s even an interview of one of the policeman injured by this group and he really has a lot of anger Ayers got away with what he did.

I cannot understand ...
dalec Sunday, October 5th at 7:34PM EST (link)how anyone can dismiss Ayers as being inconsequential to Obama. The facts are that Ayers hand picked Obama to be the Chairman of the Board for the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. Together Ayers and Obama allocated over $110 Million in just a 3 year period.

Rule #2: Vote for the R in the general.
Rule #3: Don’t let anyone convince you to violate Rule #1 or Rule #2
Rule #4: When in a center-right argument, reaffirm Rules #1-#3–it will help us all to get along better.
Rule #5: If you are using the language of the left, you probably aren’t furthering conservativism
Rule #6: The priority is issues first, candidates second, and supporters third. Nobody is bigger than the issues. Conversely, if you spend your time focusing on supporters, you are wasting everyone’s time.

PSDA (Diary) Sunday, October 5th at 9:07PM EST (link)Brokaw will be moderating the debate on Tuesday, and I’ll guarantee you he challenges McCain about this.
McCain had better come ready with an answer. And when he does, he needs to go after the media for lying and covering this up at same time because much of the post-debate analysis will consist of attempts to debunk the charge and turn the tables on McCain for making it.
To plant skepticism in the minds of viewers about what they hear after the debate, McCain must lay out the facts about Ayers AND charge the media with covering up and lying about it in order to minimize some truly extraordinary post-debate spin.
Next time Brokaw makes "school reformer" claim...
