Update – Look Who Else is Snooping on My Website. More Government Snoops!!!

On April 26th I posted an article on Redstate.com about the Department of Homeland Security crawling all over my web site after I attended a local Council Bluffs, IA Tea Party. Since then I’ve had more snoops. I just thought I’d update you all on the latest—just incase I should unexpectedly disappear. These are the latest snoop hits as of April 29th. I included a link to the first hit. This group appears to be under direct command of the President. Did I open up a can of worms or what?

These people are truly not wrapped right at all!...

JadedByPolitics (Diary) Wednesday, April 29th at 8:33PM EST (link)

I would say it’s scary but I like to think of it as more a BADGE OF HONOR!!!

Keep letting us know the more information that is out there about this insanity the better off we all are…this is UNAMERICAN!!

jorgie714-Thanks for the update.

I echo what Jaded said, the more people who know about this snooping by the Government the better.

just so you know

I can pretty much guarantee you that there is pretty much zero chance of there being any nefarious intent behind those web requests. I’ve managed countless websites over the years and you can always find interesting hostnames in your log….. ALWAYS! What you are seeing are most likely NAT gateways at some air force/navy office somewhere. Congrats you have someone visiting your website and goofing off on our tax dime.

And anyways if they were really “watching” you I think they would take a little more effort to hide their intent… they are the gov after all how hard would it be for them to register and setup not-the-cia.com :)

I agree

This looks like you’re getting fans in the Navy and AF.

Not the earlier one though

If you really got a big hit from the DHS, in other words if they scraped a lot of pages in your site, then that sounds like surveillance. But if it was just a couple of touches then you must have found a fan. Did they come back for later posts?

Could be the college students

mentioned in the previous diary. A lot of the military takes college courses as they can. You did say your market is in large part college students.

Especially the "Gate4" tag, just a grunt and a fan...

probably the others are as well. When you start seeing “Acorn” cruising your site, you had better go get your CCW.

Just a thought jorgie...

My husband is familiar with related fields and says that these groups could just be surfing, looking at your product without necessarily leaving a contact. Now, that does not explain the DHS and the Tea-party activity you noted, especially as the timing was too coincidental, but just thought it was something to consider in follow-up.

And maybe you’ll get more business, quality does count to those that know!

Coinsidence? I don’t think so.

Apr 15th – Tea Party
Apr 18th – First snoop hit by Homeland Security – April 18th
April 29th – Subsequent snoop hits by two government agencies on the same day located thousands of miles apart and involved in electronic eves-dropping three days after I published my first article on redstate.com. (Special note: I’ve been in business for some time now. None of these particular agencies found any interest in my web site before April 15th.

still means nothing

Your website is public information. Anyone and everyone has access to it, don’t be surprised when someone does just that. If you do not want them to have access to it you have every right to block their IP address. Every agency including the 3 letter gov agencies employee people that spend their work hours browsing the internet for non work related reasons (i know, shocking).

I mean look I have 7 unique visitors from alaska.gov.. I am pretty sure Sarah Palin is not stalking me.

I also have a little over 200 visitors from the army and air force. These go back many many years. I even have a few from some foreign government agencies.

Website Snooping

Lee Hempfling (Diary) Wednesday, April 29th at 10:07PM EST (link)

As the author of a website that has received quite a few intense scrutiny sessions from many government agencies, I can empatically state that coincidence does not matter. Paranoia is not necessary unless there is a set up visit from an unknown entity, like the Library of Congress, which permits access to web surfers from those in government service. If you have one of those, with specific page accesses that make sense in the context clicking order, followed later in the same day with a Homeland Security log in that follows the exact same context path, then I would say you’d be on to something. Oh wait. That happened (again!) at http://www.rollovermartin.com yesterday morning, and then a couple of hours later by the DHS. But I’m used to it. You should do this… if you can: program your site to send you an email with each page access. That way you can track what pages by what login are being made, you can then chart those pages and see if their content leads logically to the next in order access, or not, and also what prompted the next page login based on the content of the landing page.

I have hundreds of thousands of those logins, showing the paths they took. Matching them to other logins can pretty easily show a connection, but only if the pages accessed are not logically laid out in the site navigation. In other words, if the accesses are 1,2,3 in order of page links for site navigation, it means nothing, but if The Library of Congress logs in to page 2, goes to 3, 5, 1, 7, 12, 19 and 4 and that exact same path is followed by DHS then….. you’re on to something. It has turned into a kind of hobby ever since every EEOC office in the country hit the site within two hours of each other, then the Library of congress access happened, followed by Google’s headquarters offfice access and an immediate end to all EEOC accesses. Its all in the documentation at the site. If you happen to have a legal case on your site that is being hidden in a secret court and you’re writing a book that will expose everything, including Lindsey Graham’s illegal involvement, John McCain’s involvement and the George Soros connections, then you’d want to make sure you had those records someplace nicely safe. Happy hit watching.

What was once the Standard Systems Group on Gunter AFB is now Headquarters 754th Electronic Systems Group (ELSG). I served there for six years, and I can tell you there’s a pretty powerful conservative presence there in Montgomery, AL on BOTH bases (Maxwell and Gunter AFB)

The fact that the DNS is registered to Hanscom AFB is no surprise, since that’s where the administrative “parent” of the 754th resides, what basically serves as the wing command component of the electronic systems development and R&D of the Air Force.

Someone at Gunter was bored and surfing conservative sites. Be flattered you got a hit. :)
