The biggest name inside the Republican Party infrastructure to boost Donald Trump, Reince Priebus, is getting one of the biggest jobs within Donald Trump’s administration. The whispers began in earnest on Sunday, prompting this tweet from Politico’s Marc Caputo:
Reince Priebus will be chief of staff, source who spoke to Trump tells me. Announcement could come in the next half hour
— Marc Caputo (@MarcACaputo) November 13, 2016
At 4 p.m. ET, CNN’s Carol Costello reported the same.
#Urgent: Sources tell CNN Reince Priebus will be named White House Chief of Staff
— Carol Costello (@CarolC) November 13, 2016
This is an idea that makes a lot of sense. Priebus moved an entire party and its infrastructure behind a candidate who was seen as incredibly weak and played an integral role in Trump’s unlikely and unprecedented victory. It is the most sensible choice he could have made, given the candidates for the job of Chief of Staff.
There has not been a formal announcement yet, but we are expecting to hear it soon. We’ll let you know when it becomes official.
