Trump is bringing the heat

It’s easy to see why Donald Trump has gained traction. Trump is bringing the heat.

April has brought in a new baseball season and a new political reality. It’s called, in baseball terms, “bringing the heat.” It’s a pitcher throwing hard, going right after his opponent, no pretence, just being fearless and not afraid to make a mistake.

Those hard throwers in baseball have honesty to them. It’s an attitude of, “here’s what I got, now hit it.” Americans are starving for that honest attitude from our leaders.

Americans gravitate to that type; a fearless hard throwing pitcher who dominates his opponents and that’s what Trump is looking like.

Trump is Nolan Ryan, Bob Feller, Bob Gibson and Sandy Koufax among nibbling curveballers, change up artists and yes even, screwballers in the GOP like Boehner, Huckabee, and Ron Paul.

Like some power pitchers, if he does run for president Trump, will likely prove too wild to win it all. (Philly fans will remember Wild Thing Mitch Williams.) So what power pitcher is going to step up, take the ball in the 9th inning and close this thing out against Obama and his liberal lineup? Romney? Gingrich? Pawlenty? Palin? Bachmann?

Unless Governor Christie joins the team, that power pitcher may even throw like a girl.

Let's just remember that if Obama bows out...

… due to birther pressure, health issues, or because he’s come to believe the moon men will turn him into a toad, it opens up the opportunity for another Dem candidate to repudiate his policies….

This would make the 2012 general election tougher for the GOP.

In short, be careful what you wish for, birthers… you might just get it.

Trump's numbers are nothing but name name recognition

in a field that is either not particularly well known (TPaw, Daniels, etc) or not well liked or polarizing (Newt, Palin, Romney, etc). Add that to the fact that he blusters well and you’ve got his numbers.

What you don’t have is any substance at all.

As far as him being a birther, and here I’m going to assume you approve, let’s say Obama wasn’t born in the US. What course of action is appropriate? Should he be impeached, and if your answer is yes, where do you get 67 votes in the Senate? Heck, where do you find the votes in the House? What do you do?

With regard to Trump on issues, let’s call his business experience “executive experience”, what does that look like? See NRO…

  • He has four business bankruptcies in 1991, 1992, 2004, and 2009 — canceling $1.3 billion in debt the last time alone.
  • The only reason he survived bankruptcy was that he was “too big too fail” for his bankers.
  • Trump is a protectionist who made billions gaming some of the most corrupt and politicized real-estate markets in the world.

So how about his core believs, again from NRO…

  • Discussing his religious beliefs, he volunteered, “I think the Bible is certainly, it is the book. It is the thing.” That sounds more like a Larry King blurb than a declaration of faith. And can you just feel the passion when asked how often he attends church? “As much as I can. Always on Christmas. Always on Easter. Always when there’s a major occasion. And during the Sundays.”
  • Trump explained last week, “I have a great relationship with the blacks. I’ve always had a great relationship with the blacks.” … That may be true. But how will “the blacks” feel after the DNC starts distributing excerpts of Trumped, an unofficial biography by a former employee who writes that his old boss hated having a black accountant because “laziness is a trait in blacks,” and, “The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day.”
  • On universal healthcare: “We must have universal healthcare. Our objective (should be) . . . to find an equivalent of the single-payer plan that is affordable, well-administered, and provides freedom of choice.”
  • On the big three: “I think you should have the Big Three. I think, frankly, they should do dip financing. I think the government should stand behind them 100 percent.”
  • On a Constitutional Right to Privacy: “I guess there is.” When the reporter suggested this view didn’t “square” with his pro-life stance, Trump retorted: “What does that have to do with privacy? How are you equating pro-life with privacy?”
  • From The Hill on why the US has financial problems: The real estate mogul, who’s mulling a run at the presidency next year, said it’s not those domestic policies — but the actions of foreign entities like China and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) — that are at the root of America’s fiscal woes. … “You know how you do it? By stopping what’s going on in the world,” Trump told MSNBC on Monday, describing his deficit-reduction strategy. “The world is just destroying our country. These other countries are sapping our strength. OPEC is sapping our strength. We can’t pay $108-a-barrel oil. It’s sapping our country.”
  • On Medicare & Paul Ryan: “I’m very concerned about doing anything that’s going to tinker too much with Medicare. I protect the senior citizens,” Trump said. “I think Paul Ryan is too far out front with this issue.”

OK, that’s the result of about fifteen minutes of research on one site (NRO). I didn’t even have to work for these little gems. Frankly I thought one of the NRO authors hit the nail on the head when he said “Trump is the Republicans Al Sharpton.

Given some face time when people are paying attention and Trump will be gone.

This would be a great diary.

So many people are projecting conservative characteristics on Trump because they are desparate to find someone to challenge Obama.

You could also add his political donations record. nt

I spent, literally, 15 minutes on one site (NRO)

to get this. I just don’t feel like spending much more than that right now, but you’re right not only is there his donations record that a ton of pearls out there. The guy is an absolute disaster, every time he opens his mouth more crap falls out.

Trump's trade policies alone

aesthete (Diary) Wednesday, April 20th at 3:36PM EST (link)

should be enough to disqualify him forevermore for any public office, but the rest of that list is just atrocious — in conjunction with single-payer universal health care and keeping MediCare/Medicaid as is, that effectively puts Trump to the economic left of Pres Obama. I never thought that we’d have a prospective Presidential candidate more unserious than Ron Paul, Mike Huckabee, or Tom Tancredo, but there it is.

Why not? Smoot-Hawley did wonders in ‘fixing’ the economy back in the day.

Trump Bringing the Heat

Joe Connor (Diary) Wednesday, April 20th at 4:17PM EST (link)

Its funny, i never mentioned if i agree with Trump’s positions or even mentioned the birther thing, All i did was say Trump is being direct, clear and bold and that Americans are starving for that style.

Yet this brief analogy brought on lots of emotion which I think proves my point. Good or bad, agree or disagree, like him or not, unlike many of the other GOPers Trump does evoke emotion.

Thanks

Joe

The point is, however, that Trump is NOT being

mbecker908 (Diary) Wednesday, April 20th at 4:24PM EST (link)

“direct”
“clear”
or “bold”.

Again, cite specifics where you think he’s any of those. I will give you “loud”, “obnouxous”, “ignorant” and you can refer to my post upthread for specifics.

I don’t speak for anyone else, but I can sure tell you that Donald Trump arouses the same “emotion” in me that Sarah Palin does. That would be none. And while I’m guessing, I would guess that the core of his numbers are people who are enjoying a chuckle. In the world of unserious candidates, Trum is King.

You know what brings a lot of "heat" to a marriage?

aesthete (Diary) Wednesday, April 20th at 4:26PM EST (link)

Strippers, booze, and illegitimate children.

Trump bringing “the heat” has about the same effect on the 2012 Presidential race.

His style resonates, substance, not so much

Common_Cents (Diary) Tuesday, August 9th at 6:26PM EST (link)

He is a threat if he runs independent, but knowing Trump, he’ll milk it for all its worth and not run in the end.

I wish our candidates had more of his style, I believe it would resonate very much in this climate.

However, I posted before, candidates have to be themselves. Look at what happened to Jindal during his response speech after he listened to media consultants, he didn’t come across genuine. I warned of the same for Pawlenty trying to come across as bold, which can make him look a little phony. Be the best yourself you can be with your own style.

However, I think in this race we need someone with a natural legit style ala Trump, Christie, Rudy, Gingrich. They’ve all proven they can punch right back and make the gotcha media fold quickly. Note, I said their style, not endorsing any one of them at this time.

I’ll be interested to see how Perry fares in the media attacks on him.
