that would be the exporting/expanding BLUE-ism Diary...

You got exactly right, and in agreement with most of us, that people being bamboozled into thinking it is somehow OK to vote for a Democrat if they have a Pro-Life or some other "Conservative" campaign stance -- doing so only empowers the Ultra-Left INFANTICIDE crowd that runs/rules the Democrat Party hierarchy and yields the exact opposite of what the voter thought they were "supporting".... Pro-Life Dem yields more Infanticide legislation/policy.... "Fiscal Conservative" Democrat (the BLUE-DOG MYTH) grants Democrat majorities to spend ever more and more Big Government and wasteful Spending, not less....

A Red-Dog will NOT always vote with us, but when it comes down to these close votes is when they need to show some loyalty in return for the support we give them and vote with the Party (FOR A CHANGE) whereas the RINOs never do!

disreSpecter was a RINO and I'm glad he's gone

a Red-Dog, when the tough/tight Party-line votes, like the Stimulus Bill was, would have had the loyalty to vote with US on it against the Porkulus Bill.... Real Bi-Partisanship was against the Porkulus, more Democrats joined with Republicans than the other way around - the MSM, of course, just focused on the 3 Stooges (RINOs) of Snowe, Specter, and Collins.

It requires ZERO courage for them to vote their "conscience" and with the Liberals on things that are NOT close in vote! They show that they really are just Democrats with an "R" (RINO) when those tough votes come along.

And as it seems to be the majority here, its good that he's gone.

Pilgrim,

I don't want any of your precious "New England Republicans" who run under the "R" label but don't support the big issues. You are never going to get a New Englander to support traditional marriage and expect to even get close to winning the nomination. What's more, no candidate up there would support it since there seems to be something in the water that even the candidate would have drunk where he'd naturally be inclined to support "Civiil Unions" favor traditional marriage.

I see this as playing it both ways. Either you are for traditional marriage in every sense of the word or you are Pro partnerships. You can't have it both ways. Also the time for the Federal Marriage Amendment has unfortunately passed. The time to do it was 2004 when 11 states had them on their state ballots and all of them added them to their state constitutions. Additionally, Republicans controlled both chambers of Congress and the Presidency and at the time Bush was still seen as a competent, popular and Christian leader.

Republicans waited too long and now they'll never get it. That issue has played out. What's more, the newer generations what I dub "GEN PC" is being brainwashed via the public schools into accepting and tolerating all sorts of liberal ideology and in this case: living arrangements-cohabitation, civil unions, gay marriage etc. and those young people that aren't gay are supporting those that are since "we all seem to know someone who is and what right do we have to discriminate against someone else?"

While I agree the Republican party cannot simply become the party of the South and Midwest in order to win (as CNN put it shortly after election day) they cannot cater to outside groups just to get their vote and they must not sell out their ideals and morals in order to win elections in states that they historically don't fare very well in.

There is an old saying a Republican in Texas is a lot different than being a Republican in Connecticut. What's worse is it is becoming popular for these "Blue Dog Democrats" like Travis Childers in Missisiipi (Roger Wicker's old 1st district), Sen. Bob Casey in Pa, Jim Webb in progressive VA, and Sen. John Tester in MT to run as conservative often "Pro Life" Democrats and the people are dumb enough to follow it and vote them in but once they get elected they owe their alligence to the Democratic party.

Case in point, Childers. If you are Pro Life in the South, you are 80% of the way to election. Ditto for Lindsay Graham. People hate him yet because he is a legit conservative in every sense of the word when it comes to Life issues and very publically supports this issue, they are willing to overlook is McCain homerism, his waterboarding advocation, out of control spending, and immigration reform support.

Sad thing is, with more DAMN Yankees moving down to the South and changing the poltical and social Demographics of the South, it won't be long before states like South Carolina, yes I said it, South Carolina, are in play just like NC, FL, and VA already have fallen to the Democrats (For at least 2 generations I fear--see GEN PC).

The problem isn't that they are coming, its the fact that they cannot and will not assimilate into the Southern culture and vote accordingly. North Carolina is not Manhattan, Buffalo, Columbus, or Boston, and never wil be. They have infested cities like Athens, Chapel Hill, Durham, Gainesville (largely college towns (again see GEN PC) and begun to swing the voting pattens.

Its too bad that it doesn't work in the reverse but we will never have Southerners relocate to New England and for this reason you won't see "Red Dog" Republicans have a chance in Hell at winning there. For one its too cold and the climate won't attract them, but for two home is more important and won't consider relocating as much as a career-oriented, self promoting, snobbish Yank would.

as long as they fight and give us back the opportunity to fight for those things in our own States as a States' Rights issue... Let CA be as Lefty-wacko as they want and allow the rest of us to have reasonable Conservative States. Let all of the Loons move to those States that want to be way out Progressive and leave the rest of the other RED-STATES, and the Purple ones, to decide for ourselves. The trouble, of course, is that the Liberals want Federal dictates onto every State of their Left (lack of) morals/values....

We must forge alliance with those who recognize it is OK to disagree as long as we leave those things to the States. Some of our fellow Right allies equally want to FORCE our positions on others via the power of the Federal Govt - that is NOT real Conservatism IMO.

I WANT MORE CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATES but I will support RED-DOGS, but no longer will I support a RINO! Yet, I fear, some won't grasp the distinction!

If the Republican Party wants to be in the majority in my lifetime, then they are going to need red dog Republicans that can win elections in New England. They can be for reducing government spending and the size of the federal government, and they can oppose bills to outlaw abortions, outlaw flag burning, make a national definition for marriage, and make harsh penalties for drug possession. The bills they oppose are going to give some Republicans heartburn, but the loyalty to the party on the majority of the issues is worth it.

Excellent analysis 'Detroit. Many of the Boll Weevils in the 80s that voted for Reagan's tax cutsand defense build up became republicans or got beaten by them, esp by 1992. The most famous boll weevil was Phil Gramm.

I identified the myth of the moderate dem in 2006 with Drawl and that's all
