Howdy:

Regarding Eric Holder’s nomination and confirmation hearings, 10 days ago, I’d written both of my Senators here in Florida: Nelson (D) and Martinez (R). My letter to them was highly respectful and thought-out, with concise official court-and-media documented examples why Mr. Holder should not be confirmed.

My reasons took into account Mr. Holder’s rejection of The 2nd Amendment, his deeming unnecessary The 6th Amendment and a few mainstream media accounts of his past.

Senator Nelson’s office responded within 48 hours with the following………..

Dear Mr. Solomon:

Thank you for contacting me about the nomination of Eric Holder to serve as Attorney General.

The Constitution charges the Senate to provide “Advice and Consent” on the president’s nominees. I don’t take this duty lightly. Presidential appointees are responsible for implementing a wide range of policies that directly impact Americans. When nominees come before the Senate, I conduct a thorough review of their qualifications and experiences to ensure that only the most qualified nominees receive my support.

I appreciate hearing your concerns and will keep them in mind when considering future nominees. Please don’t hesitate to contact me in the future.

Senator Nelson, whom I disagree with on issues most of the time has always been honest and steadfast to his beliefs and I respect him for that. I’ve met the man several times and we have had very good discussions and agree to disagree on many things.

I pray he will vote against Mr. Holder’s confirmation solely as an American who is sworn and bound by oath to uphold The-Constitution, because I truly do respect the man. And if he does vote for Mr. Holder as A.G., I understand completely (really, I do), because it’s a party-line thing on his side of the aisle – sad but true.

Senator Martinez on the other hand, is a First-Level Gen-U-Whine R.I.N.O. and his office sent this today, 10 days after my letter…………..

Thank you for contacting me regarding the President’s nomination of Eric Holder to serve as Attorney General of the United States. I appreciate hearing from you and would like to respond to your concerns.

According to the Constitution, the Senate is charged with providing advice and consent to the president regarding selection of Cabinet Secretaries, as well as over 1,000 executive branch appointments. Prior to the president submitting names to the Senate, the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducts an extensive background check on each of the nominees.

The Senate committee with jurisdiction over the office that the nominee is seeking holds hearings on the nominee’s appointment, usually with the nominee presenting testimony. Following a simple majority vote to discharge the nominee from the committee, the nomination may be considered by the full Senate, which must approve the nomination by a simple majority vote for the nomination to be confirmed.

As you may know, Mr. Holder served as a former judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and Deputy Attorney General of the United States. If confirmed, he will be the first African-American Attorney General of the United States.

I adhere to the principle that, assuming qualifications, a President gets to choose the members of his Cabinet. I have met with Attorney General-designee Eric Holder and he answered a number of questions to my satisfaction. Eric Holder understands the unique role of Attorney General and further, I think he is qualified to serve in that role. Therefore, I intend to support Mr. Holder’s confirmation.

I had the way-back machine translate Senator Martinez’ words into non-b.s. lingo: I’m voting for him because according to The Constitution, he’s qualified and there’s no way I’m going to rain on The Messiah’s parade, because I want The President-For-Life Designate and all The Democrats to like me.

Senator Martinez,

You are absolutely correct that Mr. Holder is indeed qualified for the position as Attorney General Of The United States. However Sir, it falls on me, a civilian, to hopefully open your eyes on something: Just because a person is qualified for a position does not mean the person is fit to serve in that role.

So it is with great disdain on my part that you are not running for re-election in 2010. I would have been front and center at ALL of your appearances here in South Florida, using my 1st Amendment rights (if they still exist by then) to make the entire community aware of your decision to help these quite possible usurpers of freedom and liberty gain control of our country.

Sir, if you haven’t thought of this yet, when our rights are stripped, subjugated and otherwise eliminated, you are included in the affected as well.

I hope you sleep well knowing the seeds being sown and now assisted by your vote for Mr. Holder may quite possibly result in basic freedoms, liberties and rights disappearing along with common and non-threatening dissent of opinion and thought being no longer a legal part of our nation’s composition.

After that little rant, I feel better for the moment. But that doesn’t make all of our rights any more secure tomorrow.
