The race for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania between incumbent Republican Pat Toomey and his Democrat challenger Katie McGinty has its own Hillary-esque email scandal and the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. has produced a seriously funny political ad about it.

The ad is still running in Pennsylvania, where they have a $100,000 dollar ad buy. It’s already racked up hundreds of thousands of views with a week left.

Just like “Crooked Hillary,” “Shady Katie” is stalling efforts on the part of the GOP to get her to release her emails from when she was Governor Tom Wolfe’s chief of staff.

A panel of judges ruled Friday in favor of the state Republican Party’s public records request for emails from U.S. Senate candidate Katie McGinty‘s time as Gov. Tom Wolf’s chief of staff.

Paul Engelkemier, a communications staffer with the state GOP, requested work schedules and emails from McGinty’s six months working for the administration last July.

The Wolf administration balked at the Right-to-Know (RTK) request, arguing that it was over-broad, included personal emails and contained internal deliberations that were exempt from release.

According to the GOP, the governor’s office ultimately released 71 of as many as 15,000 pages of emails, many of which were innocuous or irrelevant.

Now the GOP has filed an ethics complaint that McGinty was setting up her Senate campaign while working on state time as the governor’s chief of staff. “The governor’s code of conduct bars any political activity during work hours.”

In a July 17, 2015, email with a 4:08 p.m. timestamp, McGinty asked for John Podesta’s advice on whether she should challenge incumbent Republican Sen. Pat Toomey in his reelection bid. She cited pressure from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and Emily’s List, a political action committee that promotes female Democratic candidates, to throw her name into the race.

That message was released with the rest of John Podesta’s hacked emails by Wikileaks. All of this is the set up for one of the most hilariously clever political ads of this cycle.
