In an example of “You can only use guns in videos if we’re pretending to shoot conservatives” and “Misogyny is A-OK if we’re mocking female gun owners,” a German (lefty) comedian has produced a disgusting spoof video which depicts NRA’s “Love at First Shot” host Natalie Foster and instructor Julie Golob being “accidentally” killed off.

[Oliver] Kalkofe starts the video by playing a snippet from an episode of “Love At First Shot” in which Foster and Golob…teach a student named Erin how to fire an AR-15 (which is not an assault rifle). After Erin fires the AR-15, Golob calls the AR-15 gun shot “a light poof of happiness.” The video then shifts to Kalkofe pretending to be Foster and Golob.

“Just a little poof of happiness,” Kalkofe says, pretending to be Foster. “Who knew death could sound so sweet?”

“I know, right?!” Kalkofe replies as Golob. “And a big hello to all the countries outside America where even in the 21st Century people aren’t free to shoot at whatever they want!”

Kalkofe portrays Golob and Foster as “stereotypical” conservative Americans – well, the stereotypes liberals attempt to perpetuate. You know – cowboy, bitter clinger, ignorant, and obsessed with shooting guns.

Not surprisingly, the typical gun grabber talking points are spouted, including

“I’m just so proud to live in a country where anyone…whether a brain surgeon or just your average psycho on an impromptu killing spree is entitled to carry a deadly weapon.”

Feminists should be outraged at the misogyny displayed in this video. Kalkofe implies that the women are sexually aroused (how dare he assume he – as a MALE – can understand what turns a woman on?) by shooting a gun, so aroused that they might simulate oral sex on the “steel barrel”:

“..that erotic tingle that comes over you when you lick the cold steel barrel of the…”

I really wish Oliver would have been using a real gun which had just been fired when he licked the barrel for the video. I’m not sure that “cold” would be the way he’d describe it. Eh, maybe it’s the language barrier.

And then he has the audacity to talk about women being in the KITCHEN. What century is this sexist pig living in?

“It could have happened in the kitchen with an egg beater, right? I, for one, am such a klutz in the kitchen! You won’t believe it.”

At the end of the video, Kalkofe’s Golob “accidentally” shoots Foster – of course he/she/zhe is holding the gun in an entirely inappropriate manner, but that is almost insignificant because, really, who expects a European liberal to know how to handle a firearm?

What stands out loud and clear is Kalkofe’s dehumanization of people who disagree with his politics. He dramatized their death, and the message is that they deserve it because of their beliefs – and it’s funny because they are “not like us.”  It’s reminiscent of Palestinian cartoons depicting the murder of Jews.

Though I was using a heavy sarcasm font when talking about Kalkofe’s misogyny, I strongly believe that the dehumanization that is occurring in politics is a massive threat and a barrier to finding solutions to the issues facing all of us.
