I mean, if you’re conditioned to be hypersensitive to this sort of thing, ok, you could say the joke was built around the “greedy Jew” stereotype. If that were the case though, then it wouldn’t work if you removed the Jewish detail from it. Replaying it in my head, I think it works just fine if you remove the Jewish detail from it.

I DO believe Obama hates Jews in general (“but you’re a good Jew, Rahm”), but I don’t hear anti-Semitism in Jones’ remark. In fact, that’s the kind of story I’ve heard Jewish, Armenian, Indian etc, etc, merchants tell about themselves as an example of how the hated “Other” survives through superior wit in a hostile culture.

I experienced true anti-Semitism some years ago when a long-time friend — an apparently cultured Portuguese professor — erupted into a vitriolic tirade against Israel. It was like that scene in “Lord of the Rings” where the Elfin queen or Bilbo transform for an instant into raging evil. It physically sickened me and the friendship ended.

The real question is, why is the National Security Advisor telling old, lame jokes on the record?

Honestly, it seems like some of us are just sitting around looking to be outrageously outraged. The joke may have been unwise in that setting, especially if Jones doesn’t have the nuts to say “Muslim” or “Arab”. We are not keeping out eye on the ball if everyone is going to get their panties in a twist over this “joke”.

Let’s start proposing and pushing real policies and stop whining on the Internet. If we sit around looking to be offended, then we are no better than the liberals.

I, too, thought it anti-Semitic when I first saw it, and then on Facebook, comments from another very pro Israel friend, as am I, declared that it was in fact showing how stupid the Talliban is. I think that is a distinct possibility, although coming from Zero’s administration, it could also be the other way………..
