Seabees would build a platform OVER the surf to lay on!

,,,mostly epic bombs, either dreary (Rendition), tedious (Lions for Lambs, or just plain ghastly (Redacted. Portraying the men and women in uniform as either pitiable, hapless victims (Home of the Brave or Stop Loss or psychopaths (again, Redacted or both (Valley of Elah). All Hollywood A-list, too (Reese Witherspoon, Samuel L. Jackson, Tommy Lee Jones, Charlize Theron, and, in the case of Lions, Robert Redford, Tom Cruise AND Meryl Streep.

There have been exceptions, though technically not about combat in the GWOT (World Trade Center and United 93). I'd even add the Kingdom, which, despite the moral equivalence at the end (and being fiction), honestly captured the ambiguity and alien-ness of our supposed Saudi allies and didn't shy away from the absolute ugliness of our enemies.

Hollywood has made movies that front-and-centered the adaptability and heroism of our soldiers in unpopular (We Were Soliders) wars or epic screw-up (Blackhawk Down) interventions that were also box-office and video-release gold.

So the template is there, and Hollywood is nothing if not derivative. Take a meeting to option Dan Bellavia's House to House. Have your people call their people to do an update of Charlie Wilson's War featuring the laptop-toting CIA special operatives who rode into battle horseback alongside the Northern Alliance fighters.

But, sadly, no. It doesn't fit the narrative of Hollywood's doctrinaire, liberal echo chamber, which can be summarized thus:

"No, seriously, who's the REAL enemy?"

It's been a tough Memorial Day this year. probably because I've had to focus on a squad of people and sometimes even a platoon, and there just hasn't been time for release.
Relieved of all that now, the blinders are off and instead of looking only ahead at the task, I've been looking back and I'm seeing a trail of people you wouldn't think to call "hero" until one day they faced a choice, and willingly chose death for themselves but life for their friends.
That's what it's all been about all these years. I've served under Carter, Reagan, Clinton, Bush, and finished under Obama and it's never been about them ever.
Nobody is leaving because of Obama that I know of, but rather staying because of their brothers and sisters in arms.
Now for me the war formerly known as the "War On Terror" becomes a political one and I see few worthy of leading, following, or fighting beside except for here and a sparse few other places.
Fighting liberalism is actually worse in many ways, in that they never die, go down, go away, or turn back. It's like wave after wave of zombies and every wave takes an inch, or a foot, or a yard.
Sorry, my head's spinning with so much crap this weekend. I've written this twice now and deleted it once cuz it strayed so far from the topic.
Great, great post, sir. Thank you.

That story and picture is so incredibly powerful. I urge everyone who wants to read about the picture above, whether they get there from my post or directly, to please take the time to read it.

Fair warning: You may need to dry your eyes after.
