The AP is reporting that “a confidant[e] of the man Barack Obama defeated in November said Wednesday that the president-elect has earned enormous global good will and “a moment in time” to re-engage other nations with the United States.”
Graham appeared Wednesday with Vice President-elect Joe Biden at Obama’s transition headquarters. Biden and Graham were there to brief Obama on what they learned during a just-completed five-day, bipartisan fact-finding mission to Kuwait, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq.“I cannot tell you how much enthusiasm we saw in Pakistan for this new president,” Graham said, sitting in a chair to Obama’s right. “There is a moment in time here for this country to re-engage the international community, to make sure that we have international support to stabilize Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq.”
He added: “This president’s popularity and the respect that he has earned throughout the world gives America a chance to re-engage not only in the region, but in a way that will in the long term make this job easier, take some pressure off our troops. And that’s a compliment to you and the way you have campaigned.”
Graham’s attachment to McCain over the last few years, and his new infatuation with Obama, show how easily impressed this Republican Senator really is. Leave aside the fact that Obama has never accomplished a thing in his life other than getting elected, and that he hasn’t laid out a single policy prescription that hasn’t been subject to very rapid change — get a few folks in foreign countries out to cheer him on, whatever the reason (has it ever occurred to Graham that these folks are happy because they see Obama as an ally of theirs, rather than as a competent leader of the free world?), and suddenly he’s a magical figure who presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shore up America’s security and standing in the world.
What a bunch of hooey. Oh, Lindsey, how easily smitten you are — and how that tingle must have increased when Obama said you would be “one of our counselors on foreign policy.” Graham, Kmiec, etc., etc. — what is it with folks turning into a melted puddle of love and goo as a result of the other side deigning to pay lip service to listening to them, regardless what the actual policy result will be?

Ed54 (Diary) Sunday, January 18th at 7:29PM EST (link)It is very important that we finish the job in Iraq, and keep our resolve in Afghanistan. If it takes buttering up Obama and Biden to help them with the mental rationalization to come over to our point of view and break with the loony anti-war left on Iraq-Afg-Pak, then so be it.
Also, it is undeniable that the global media have spun Obama’s election as a Wonderful Thing For All Humanity ®. That is not a partisan view, it is a simple observation. There is nothing wrong with leveraging that story to our benefit as a nation, for as long as it lasts. And there is truth in it: in what other country on earth could a race go from enslaved to holding Presidential office in 140 years?
Finally, everyone knows the knife in the back slides in better with a smile to the face. If Obama continues to drift our way on foreign policy, then we need to take a magnanimous “politics stops at the water’s edge” posture. That will make it much easier to fight him tooth and nail on domestic policy, where he seems set to do real damage.

Perhaps Linday Graham, John McCain and all the other GOP eunuchs should assume this position. Pelosi might require that no GOP eunuch be permitted outside his office without being escorted by his corrsponding democrat mate to further humiliate these sellouts.
All you need to know about Graham...
Aurelian Monday, January 19th at 10:44AM EST (link)…was put out there by Graham himself a couple of years ago during the immigration battle.
Graham goes to a La Raza gathering (which I’m sure most here know is a leftwing professional ethnic grievance group) and as he promises to pass the amnesty/gigantic-increase-in-permanent-legal-immigration-bill, he couldn’t help but throw in the line about how “we’re going to tell the bigots to shut up.”
That line speaks volumes. No true conservative would ever think, let alone utter such nonsense. It shows that Graham suffers from a bad case of White Guilt. It shows that he shares the view of the elite about those who would dare disagree with him. It shows he would rather have the respect and admiration of a group that would never support conservatism, rather than that of of those who are naturally inclined to vote Republican. It shows that he, like the Left in general, wants to poison any chance of a rational immigration debate by degrading it to the point that says anyone who opposes the open-borders/mass immigration forever crowd is nothing but a racist.
With this new President in particular, Graham will probably find it irresistible to resist the tempatation to stab us in the back, because he knows there is much love from the media to be showered with in doing so.
